William Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England to parents John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. He married Anne Hathaway and had three children - Susanna and twins Hamnet and Judith. Between 1585-1592, Shakespeare left his family in Stratford for London where he began his career writing plays. Some of his most famous works include tragedies like Romeo and Juliet, comedies like The Taming of the Shrew, and histories like Richard III. Shakespeare influenced literature and language for centuries with his mastery of storytelling and introduction of new words and phrases to the English language.
