Secession

What is secession? Secession is talking about
breaking away from the union. When slavery
laws were passed a lot of states started to
leave the union. Abraham Lincoln was elected
as president many Southern states left
because he wanted to abolish slavey because
cotton was wanted and having slaves
increased the need of cotton.
The compromise of
      1820

The Compromise of 1820 was when the
Missouri line was established. Everything
above it except one state was free and below
the line was slave states.
The compromise of
      1850

Compromise of 1850 was when California
was annexed to the states after the mexican
war and part of it was below lines. So it came
as a free state but the north and to give the
south stronger slave fugitive laws witch
meant that slaves had to go all they way to
canada and not north.
Free states

Free states were states north of the Missouri
line and slaves could escape the south. But
after compromise of 1850 slaves had to go all
the way to canada and slave catchers could go
through the north and try and find the slave.
Slave states

These were the states below the line and they
had slaves there was in high demand and
having slaves helped make more cotton but it
was very bad for the slaves some would not
be fead and it was horrible.
Border states

There were few border states witch were in
the civil war that were nothing special about
them they just separated the north and south.
