2. Stay in the Game
Build:
Trust & Why Use Social
Relationships Media
Reputation
Brand Identity
Engage Customers
Get More Business
3. Social Media gives
your company the
opportunity to
establish itself as an
expert
In every field/market
there is a perceived
leader.
Do you really want
your competition to
fill that role?
5. Whether or Not You’re Involved
Conversations are happening on social media
Customers and potential customers are
discussing products or services similar to yours
online
If you’re not participating, you don’t know
what’s being said
7. Circle of Trust
Everyone has a circle of people whose
opinion they listen to and respect.
Your company needs to break into this
circle.
Social media (done correctly) can
reinforce trust and respect for your brand
8. Accessibility
is Key
People trust companies and organizations
that seem accessible and transparent. An
accessible company means a more
trustworthy company
9. Word of Mouth
Give customers and contacts the opportunity
to share exceptional experiences with your
company
These are even better if it’s unsolicited
12. For Future Customers:
Build your company brand in the minds of
potential customers
The more information people have about
your company and employees the more
they will feel connected to you
Most people will not refer a business or
service they do not trust.
13. For Current Customers:
It’s harder to “break-up” with a person
than it is to leave a business
Show customers the personality of your
company and employees and they will
be forced to look at you as people, not a
corporation.
If customers are considering leaving your
business they have to leave people. They
will sever personal relationships not just a
business relationship
15. Create a Buzz
Get people talking about your company
Get the word out about products or
services in a way that promotes
conversation
16. What’s that?
Keep an eye on what’s being said
about your company by:
Employees
Competition
Networking/Partners
Fix problems quickly and directly
17. Explain Yourself
Don’t be afraid of negative comments.
They happen.
Social media gives you a platform to
address negative comments or issues.
Ignoring problems doesn’t solve them. It
increases damage.
19. What’s Your Identity?
As a small business, it’s important to
have a recognizable identity.
20. Conduct research to find out how
you’re currently viewed
Decide how you want your
company to be viewed
If the way you are being viewed is
not the same as the image you
want to project, use social media to
reconcile the two
21. Think about it…
Whatterms or keywords do you want
associated with your company?
26. People Aren’t Just Numbers
You can no longer afford to view
people as demographics
Customers/Clients want to connect
and understand the businesses they
work with
27. The more a audience
understands your company,
the more powerful your
relationship with them
Why is this important?
31. Why You Should Use Social
Media:
Remain Competitive
Build Trust & Relationships
Build Your Reputation
Build Your Brand Identity
Engage Customers
Get More Business

Editor's Notes
One of the reasons some businesses are skiddish about social media is because they’re afraid of negative comments. It’s possible to receive negative comments. But, social media provides the platform to explain, to make things right. The fact of the matter is – if someone has something negative to say they can say it. Ignoring them doesn’t stop the damage. But, when you reply, you are seen as a business owner who cares, who wants to make the customer happy, and that you’re human. Social media is a two-way conversation, so go ahead and defend yourself – just do it proactively.
