One important reason for referencing is to avoid plagiarism, which is defined by the University of Melbourne (n.d.) as “the act of representing as one's own original work the creative works of another, without appropriate acknowledgment of the author or source.” However, there are other reasons why it’s important to reference correctly.

As an academic and marketer with an active following of several groups of people, I'm now in the positive position where my tweets average more than 1000 impressions per day (and, in some time periods, over 5000 impressions).
