This document discusses challenges and approaches for assembling large metagenomic and genomic datasets using short read sequencing data. Three main challenges are discussed: 1) Assembling the parasitic nematode H. contortus genome due to high polymorphism and repeats. Digital normalization helped enable assembly by reducing redundancy and errors. 2) Assembling the lamprey transcriptome with no reference and too much data. Digital normalization reduced the data volume and enabled assembly. 3) Assembling large soil metagenomic datasets, which are difficult due to their scale and complexity. Data partitioning separates reads into bins to enable "divide and conquer" assembly approaches. While progress has been made, challenges around strain variation, scaffolding, and connecting
ADR in practice: Pre-Claim Conciliation – 2 years onAcas Comms
- Acas introduced Pre-Claim Conciliation (PCC) to encourage earlier resolution of employment disputes and reduce burdens of employment tribunal claims. PCC referrals have increased year-over-year and around half of appropriate referrals are resolved. PCC appears to be faster, cheaper, and less formal than tribunal processes. However, conciliators face challenges like cold-calling employers and lack of initial paperwork compared to tribunal cases.
This document discusses opportunities and challenges presented by next-generation DNA sequencing technologies. It begins by introducing the speaker, C. Titus Brown, and their commitment to open science. It then describes the dramatic decreases in cost and increases in scale of DNA sequencing. While this enables sequencing entire genomes and environmental samples, it presents challenges for analysis due to lack of reference genomes and limited computational tools. The document outlines goals for shotgun sequencing analysis and challenges for non-model organisms. It concludes by emphasizing the need for training in data analysis to take advantage of the vast amounts of sequencing data being generated.

Eyeblaster Research Note Cpc Curtail The Growth Display AdvertisingEyeblaster Spain
The document discusses how cost-per-click (CPC) pricing models for display advertising may curtail future growth of the industry. It finds that switching primarily to CPC could reduce publisher revenues as lower-performing campaigns would pay less while higher-performing campaigns would pay much more. This could drive some publishers out of business and reduce inventory, forcing remaining publishers to increase CPC prices and lose some campaigns to other channels. Overall, widespread use of CPC pricing could seriously damage the online advertising industry's growth prospects over the long run.
The document discusses the state of the internet in Brazil in November 2009. It provides statistics showing that Brazil has the largest internet population in Latin America with over 30 million home and work users who spend on average 26.7 hours online per month. While the US used to dominate the global online audience, regions like Asia Pacific have surpassed it, and emerging markets are adopting broadband access, skipping dial-up. The Brazilian internet audience skews young, with 65% under 35 years old. Social networking, particularly Orkut, is very popular in Brazil, which has high engagement levels across several categories compared to other countries.

While school was the "scariest thing", the trip overall was a "life changing" experience that the student would love to repeat.
This document discusses the challenges of analyzing large genomic datasets and summarizes some of the speaker's research applying new techniques to address these challenges. The speaker develops tools to help biologists efficiently analyze vast amounts of sequencing data. One key technique is "digital normalization" which can speed up analysis by 20-200x while reducing data volume. The speaker has applied this to assemble genomes like the parasitic nematode H. contortus and soil metagenomes. The goal is to make downstream data analysis faster, better, and help answer biological questions.
This presentation will summarize current organizing rules, the changes that will occur if EFCA is passed, and steps that employers should consider now in light of the proposed legislation.
This presentation will take on the perspective of the independent developer and what needs to be considered prior to releasing an App onto Apple’s App Store. While the information shared will be useful to larger companies and corporations, the assumed actor will be an individual one person does it all perspective (as larger companies would need to involve communications, marketing and legal representation for many of the steps to a successful launch). The presentation will include such topics as setting up a relationship with Apple, preparing for a web presence, and how to handle user feedback and suggestions. It will also go into device provisioning, pricing, and the use of promo codes when getting people to use your App for the first time.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

HCL Notes and Domino License Cost Reduction in the World of DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc
- Practical examples and best practices to implement right away
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
