Social entrepreneurs like John Wood and Greg Mortenson have sacrificed their time and energy to help promote literacy for less fortunate people through building schools. Individuals can help promote literacy by donating books, supporting literacy organizations, and volunteering to teach others.

 Literacy in simple terms is the ability to read and
write.
 Also it literacy refers to having the knowledge and
competence on a subject.
 The United Nations Educational , Scientific and
Cultural Organization ( UNESCO ) defines literacy as
the ‘ability to identify , understand , interpret , create
, communicate , compute and use printed and
written materials.

 With literacy , people can be educated and get
employed for jobs instead of stealing to survive.
