1. Why Is Running Important To Me
All of us have had at least one moment or event that has changed our lives for the better or the
worse. This can take place through sports, dramatic events, etc. Many events have shaped me into
the person I am today. Running has been the main activity in my life that has had an impact in
shaping my life. In both cross–country and track I have learned many lessons that will help me
throughout my entire life. Through running I have not only gained exemplary health and a close
group of friends, but I have also obtained certain qualities and traits that have made me a better
person. One very important lesson I learned was that to be even the slightest bit successful at
running, or at anything, one has to put in a tremendous amount of hard work

2. Personal Narrative-Sacrifice
Everyone has a certain story that they want people to remember forever. Our families have had
stories that have been passed down from generation to generation. All of the stories have different
morals at the end of them: either the person learned a lesson at the end of it or there could have been
a coming–of–age, or whatever the case may be. My story was one of disappointment and good luck.
Throughout your life, you have days where nothing goes according to plan and everything goes
wrong. I had one of those days and things could have turned for the worst for my way of life. A
couple months ago, my friend invited me to a party he was planning to go all the way in Worcester.
Since I normally don't have anything to do Friday nights and I thought ... Show more content on

The party bus was late and it seemed like we were waiting for countless hours. In the meantime,
people were just talking and hanging out, but you could feel anxiety of when the party bus was
actually coming because the time it would be here kept on changing. At last, the party bus finally
came and was ready to go. Once the people came outside to get on the bus, it was a shoving match
to see who would get on the bus because the riders have become impatient. It was like the scene you
see at stores Black Friday morning, the only difference was that the bus you got to get signed in.
There was one point where the Residence Advisor for the building we were in yelled at us and told
us to get the party bus away from the front of her building. So after the bus moved and everyone
was able to get on, there was a celebration onboard. The ride over the was actually pretty smooth,
most people were dancing, other people were just talking with one another. It was good time but
then it was though an eeriness came on the bus like a draft. Someone had said that the party we were
going to got shut down, mind you we were already on the road for about two hours. We didn't
believe it so we kept going on our way to the venue. Once we got near it, there was no way to get in,
the police had the whole road blocked

3. Personal Narrative: Life After Depression
Haven't you ever felt that one problem drastically changes your life unexpectedly? I've experienced
a wide variety of changes in my life since I was 5 but I believe that all these problems have
transformed me into the person that I am today. One complication, however wasn't very easy to
resolve due to the fact that I didn't know that I had this until I was 15. The most significant
challenge that I have faced so far is suffering from depression. Finding out that I had depression,
was the biggest punch to the stomach that I've ever received. It frightened me at the thought of it
overtaking control of my mind. I started to notice that I didn't smile as often as I used to and if I did

4. Tay Sachs Reflection
Almost everybody has something happen in their life that makes a huge difference. Whether it is big
or small; long or short; fun or academic and most importantly whether or not others think it is
important. It doesn't matter if somebody else over looks it, if it is important to you, then it matters.
For me personally, the most important occasion that has happened in my life so far is when I learned
about Tay–Sachs disease. Tay–Sachs disease is a rare, genetic disease that causes progressive loss of
functions in infants. Each child with Tay–Sachs is born with the condition and has inherited it from
his/her parents at the time of conception. These children are missing a key enzyme and without it a
fatty substance builds up in the brain. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I use to see my life and something I wasn't sure about what I wanted to accomplish. However, now I
know. It is incredibly hard to earn a spot onto a team who is researching rare diseases, however, I
believe if I try hard enough and do not give up I can make it. There is not a known cure or treatment
and I believe I can find one. If I cannot make it onto a Tay–Sacks research team, I plan on
attempting to earn a spot onto a Cystic Fibrosis research team. As my third choice for genetic
diseases to research, I would choose Parkinson 's Disease or Canavan's Disease. I am a math major
who loves physiology and helping people. This can potentially be an odd combination, however I
love children and would do anything to help them. I have always loved helping people and this is a
way that I can do that and potentially cure them at the same time. When treating these children, you
are not just helping the children, you are also helping their families. These parents provide
supportive care to their children and it a large emotional toll on the parents to watch their child die
and know there is nothing they can do about it. It also an emotional toll on other family members;
and especially the siblings of the child suffering from it. This is why I want to study this disease. I

Ninety percent of deaths in combat or in a shooting occur before the victims ever make it to a

life is important. Living in the moment and knowing that all things happen for a reason can improve
one's life and let them enjoy every second of it. "The Peaceful Warrior" shows viewers that they
should focus more on the present and not as much on the future. The movie shows this by giving the

with advice on how to live life and how to succeed in life. Dan was taught to focus on every

11. Analysis Of The F Word By Firoozeh Dumas
Firoozeh Dumas's essay "The 'F Word" is not what audience think it would be about. When the
audience hears the someone mention the "F" word all sorts of ideas pop into their head. Yet, Dumas
twists the meaning of her title into something the audience wouldn't think of when they hear it. In
today's American Society people are judged by more than just the color of their skin, for instance in
Dumas's case it was by her name. Society has an image of what everyone should be like from their
looks to the name they go by. In the article Dumas explains her experience as an immigrant from
Iran to the US. Dumas shows how hard it is for someone to come to America and live with an
unusual name. This is blatantly apparent during her childhood because the children would make fun
of her and the rest of her family's name. To counter this, Firoozeh decided to add Julie as an
American middle name so strangers would not feel so awkward around her. Julie became the
author's middle name which caused her to play a "double role" in her life. This was because her
family knew her as Firoozeh and her friends and coworkers that knew her as Julie. Later, when she
became a stay at home mom Dumas decided to be called by Firoozeh again. This return caused her
some uncomfortable situations since the "double roles" collided. Dumas states, "make room in the
spice cabinet." because she believes that Americans should be more opened minded to new
pronunciations, sounds, and names. Dumas uses three key

Have you ever looked back to a something that you did in your neighborhood when you were child?
Generally, when we just look back to a something that we did when we were child we have a
strength feeling, and just starting to ask ourselves why we did that and how we did that. Most likely
we cannot find answers to our questions because we cannot think how and why we acted childlike
behavior after we became adult. I have an embarrassing story that happened to me when I was child
and that happened to me with one of my best friends Meshal in our neighborhood. Unfortunately, I
and my friend Meshal were naughty boys, so we put our parents in many embarrassing situations.
Because of brat we did a bad and embarrassing something that caused my dad beating me and

Have you ever performed the worst that you could, but still got rewarded for it? Me either. In
society today, we have come to the fact that everyone should be a winner just because they were

realize they don't win no matter how hard or not how hard they work? It has become a huge
argument when coming to this topic all around America, especially in school activities with ages
from 3–18. If everyone were to receive a participation trophy for their performances than that will
affect society greatly when these kids get into the real adult world. Based off of the article shared

When rewarded with something that a child doesn't deserve, they often feel as though they are
superior to all of the others that did not receive what they had, even if they deserved it more than the
child that did receive it. Participation awards give children a surreal kind of confidence that they are
the best and get whatever they want in life because they have never had the harsh moments of not
being the best, because they never get told that they aren't the best, even when that is the case. We
will end up giving children the perception that they do not deserve of themselves if we let them win
when in reality they do not. In the article above, Turner again states, "In spite of that, "at the end she
got a giant trophy and would have been devastated had she not". What he means by this statement is
that a kid that clearly did not try at all in the sport that she was in expected an award because she
knew she was going to get on either way. That is the type of perception that we need to avoid in
order to have a successful and stable future with the current generations. I do on the other hand
think that winning all of the time could be a confidence booster to young children, because they do
not yet have confidence nor know how to deal with losing. I do not think that a child needs a
confidence boost at the age 17, in an activity that has been involved with the child for numerous

15. A Short Story Of A Ghost Story
I shall begin my story with an experience I encountered at the age of sixteen at our small town's
Latin school. The sweetness of many memories from that time still stirs and touches me with
melancholy: dark and well–lit alleys, houses and factories, faces and chimes, rooms affluent and
comfortable, snug and amenable, the whole town was pregnant with secrets.
The realms of day and night, two different universes coming from two opposite poles, mingled
during this time. My parents' home belonged to one realm. This realm was familiar to me in many
ways– strictness and love, model behaviour and school. This realm was thriving in clarity, brilliance
and purity, polite conversations and good manners. This was the world in which morning hymns
were sung and Christmas celebrated. Straight lines and paths led into the future: there was duty,
love, forgiveness, good resolutions, wisdom and reverence. If one wanted an unsullied and ordinary
life, one made sure one was in league with this world.
The other realm, however, was completely different: it smelt different, spoke a different language,
promised and demanded different things. This world contained ghost stories, rumours of scandals
and servant girls. It was dominated by a loud mixture of horrendous, intriguing, frightful,
mysterious things, including slaughterhouses and prisons, drunkards and screeching fishwives,
calving cows, horse sinking to their deaths, talks of robberies, murders and suicides. All these wild

Bill Clinton wrote the "Oklahoma Bombing Memorial Address" in order to comfort the families
who lost a loved one the night of the bombing. Anna Quindlen wrote "The Quilt of a Country" in
order to send a message to the readers about how they unite specifically. She is saying that how they
unite is similar to a quilt.Even though the "Oklahoma Bombing Memorial Address," by Bill Clinton,
and "A Quilt of a Country," by Anna Quindlen, both emphasize the importance of uniting in time of
tragedy, they differ in that Clinton's address compels the audience to move on from tragedy while
Quindlen's essay appears to stress ironically the importance of embracing tragedy.
"The Quilt of a country" by Anna Quindlen and "Oklahoma Bombing" by Bill Clinton talked about
how they all should unite as a nation. Bill Clinton uses pathos to show sympathy to all those who
lost their lives all though the audience did not lose a loved one they must show them that they are
going to help them get through life even when an accident like the bombing happens. "This terrible
sin took the lives of our American family, innocent children in that building, only because their
parents were trying to be good parents as well as good workers; citizens in the building going about

In life, people are free to do what they desire. We have the ability to choose our own path; a path
that teaches us not only lessons that lead us to social/academic achievement, but a lesson about
morality, self–respect, and integrity. It's importance are the key components that inspire us to strive
and want to succeed. The path that each of us chooses to take surrounds us with problems and
obstacles that derogate the self–confidence that we have in ourselves away and leading us to
distress. However, these problems that torment our mind are the reasons we learn the morality of
self–respect. It's not about how great you can succeed without fault, it's about how critical you can

introducing the town, Grover 's Corner, and the characters that live there. He shows the audience
important places within the town and he knows what will occur because he discusses how characters
will die. Joe Crowell, a newsboy delivers the paper to Doc Gibbs and Howie Newsome delivers
milk. Both the Webb and Gibbs call their children down for breakfast and then head out to school.
Mrs. Gibbs and Mrs. Webb string beans together and discuss selling her grandmothers furniture and
her dreams of traveling to Paris but her husbands hesitance. The audience is then given more
geographical and political information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Back at the wedding both Emily and George have a bit of a breakdown and fear growing old and
aren 't prepared to go through with the wedding. Both calmed down and proceeded with the
marriage with the stage manager as the clergyman. The two then run off down the aisle after being
married. Nine years later Emily passed away while giving birth to their second child. The scene is of
her funeral in a cemetery outside of town. Within the nine years many others have passed away
including Mrs. Gibbs, Mrs. Soames, Simon Stimson, and Wallace Webb. Emily joins the other
spirits who sit in the cemetery watching the others. She goes back to relive part of her life but the
others warn her not to. She continues on and goes back to the morning of her 12th birthday. The
memory proves painful for her, and she finds life was simply beautiful. She returns to the cemetery
and says the living don 't understand. They discuss how the living don 't understand how precious
life is while they are alive. She watches as George cries over her grave and the stage manager bids
the audience farewell. Our Town was done very differently than the other plays I have read and I
thought it was interesting. I liked that the stage manager broke the fourth wall multiple times and
spoke to the audience, creating more interaction with them and keeping people entertained and
drawn in. They also placed actors in the audience for a scene. I think this is a

22. Personal Narrative: My Big Game
It was August 28th 2013 , I knew the next day would be the biggest day of my life. All throughout
the week, all I had on my mind was the big game. When I woke up on that Friday morning chills
would run through my body a bolt of electricity. Knowing I'm one day away from one of the biggest
games of my life. The winner has a spot in the playoffs. I was so excited and anxious that I went for
a run around my neighborhood because I was filled with so much energy. When I got back from my
run I had a creamy peanut butter and nutella sandwich. The best sandwich I've ever conceived to
this day. Next thing I had to do was take my shower and get all my stuff prepared for the big game.
The first thing I did when I got out the shower was throw all my football gear on the ground. I

23. Pathos And Logos In A Good Man Down By Lee Jenkins
"A Good Man Down," written by Lee Jenkins, is about a small Iowa town and how they come
together and cope in times of despair. Ed Thomas was not only the high school football coach but
probably the most respected men in the town. It seems as this man would do anything to help out his
community. Unfortunately, Thomas was shot by Mark Becker, a former athlete, on June 24, 2009. In
fact, Mark's brother was playing for Thomas at the time of the murder. In this piece of writing,
Jenkins uses all three elements pathos, ethos, and logos to really pull the audience in and make the
reader feel what the town of Parkersburg was going through.
Jenkins explains what a great man Thomas was, "Thomas delivered sermons when ministers were
away. He consoled husbands whose wives were ill. He presented baby boys with FUTURE
FALCON certificates. He taught kids to play football, sure, but he also taught driver's ed, making
his students learn behind the wheel of a John Deere mower before he gave them keys to a car. He
worked every day but Christmas, except this year, when he took a vacation to Hawaii and
complained that he could not relax." By adding this into his article, Jenkins is creating a picture of
what type of man Ed Thomas was. He is describing his personality in hopes that you may connect
Thomas is to someone in your community that is thought highly of. By the audience getting
emotionally invested in this piece, this shows the element of pathos. Also, by showing how highly

24. Reflection Paper On Theatre
Meta–Thinking
Why do you do theatre? I remember somebody asked me this question last year when I first
declared my theatre minor. I gave them the same sentiment that I repeated during the beginning of
the semester, "Performing scares me, but there is no other place where I can get that same
feeling...". Throughout the semester, my answer has grown in multiple ways. I feel like I can better
define that feeling in theatrical terms, especially why the process of creating theatre feels fun.
Throughout the semester i've grown to understand how to make my theatre feel more authentic, and
hopefully how to make good theatre. When we began focusing on different theatrical terms ( tempo,
duration, authenticity, point, unity, harmony, and etc) it felt like we were wasting our time by
focusing on understanding these terms. The class seemed to understand what each term meant
already, and there was no need to use them. At the beginning of the semester it felt that we didn't
need to spend so much time on defining a vocabulary but I remember during the critiques each
person had a chance to mention what they liked about each piece and I knew exactly what each
person liked, hated, and thought should be changed. They mentioned certain key terms and I
understood exactly what dimensions they were referring to. I had completely understood them and
without them mentioning those terms their input could've been misinterpreted. While working on
the scenery project, I went for a practical approach

25. Steve Jobs's 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech, Apple And...
Living Life with a Purpose In his 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech, founder and CEO of
Apple and Pixar, Steve Jobs develops ethos, pathos, and logos in order to motivate and inspire the
graduating class, ultimately persuading the students to "Stay foolish, stay hungry". Jobs shows that
he is a reliable example by describing this achievement throughout his life. He expands on his
ethical appeal to the crowd by explaining his failures, "We'd just released our finest creation... and I
had just turned 30. And then I got fired" (Jobs 3). Jobs is known as a highly successful businessman.
Jobs, however; expands on his failure and is open about it. It is thought that once something goes
wrong there is no way to get back from it. But Jobs recalls being fired from Apple as "the best thing
that could have ever happened to me" (Jobs 2). Jobs uses his failure to further expand on the
importance of staying creative and remaining ambitious. Jobs had to move on from his job and
when he did, "I started a company named NeXT... In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought
NeXT, and I returned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple's
current renaissance" (Jobs 3). Jobs is telling the Stanford graduating class that life may not go the
way that was planned, but if they pursue what they believe is the right path, and they do not give up
then they will be able to thrive. Jobs is telling the students need to look at failure as an opportunity
to further develop

26. Compare And Contrast The Final Kite Scene
Compare and Contrast: Final Kite Scene The book and the movie have several similarities as well as
many differences, this is apparent in the final moments of the book and the movie, there are not
overwhelming amount of differences as the adaptations are very similar, but some of those
differences are the loss of significance of the ending of the scene from the book to the movie, the
lack of explanation of character relations in the movie and the lack of significant flashbacks that are
present in the book unlike in the movie. The most important aspect of this scene in both the book
and the movie is the ending of this scene. This is due to the fact that at the end of the scene, in the
book and the movie there is the aspect of Amir feeling finally liberated from the burden of his past.
The difference here in relies on the fact that the book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dictionary.com defines perseverance as "Steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state,
etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement." My aunt, Tracy, is a perfect
example of someone who has this quality. She has been through so many hard times in her life but
she always manages to find positivity and overcome difficult situations. Three years ago, I went
over to my aunt's tiny country house in Fort Worth for Thanksgiving, and my Aunt Tracy burnt the
turkey to a crisp. Everyone was trying to comfort her, but this wasn't going to stop her from cooking
us the most magnificent golden turkey in the world. "Absolutely not, I'm not going to let our
Thanksgiving be ruined because of my huge mistake," my aunt said cheerfully. Aunt Tracy and I
jumped in the car, the engine roared, and we drove the speed of light to a bunch of stores looking for
one that still had a turkey left, but it seemed like an eternity before we found one. When we finally
found a store that had a turkey, you could hear the sound of panic in people's voices because they
needed last minute ingredients and the pitter–patter of people's feet running all around the store.
When we spotted a turkey at the end of the store my aunt sprinted towards it, grabbed it, and held it
close to her chest as if someone was going to steal it. After we bought the turkey we drove quickly

No Exit Sarte
In Sartre's Famous play No Exit, the Audience takes a complex journey through three condemned
souls in hell and how their wrongful actions can truly lead them to live an imprisoned life in hell.
The play is based around three people; Joseph, Inez, and Estelle and how their personalities are a
means of torture to one another. The three are placed into a room with third empire furniture which
could be seen in a common drawing room, meant for entertaining. The way the room is styled can
push the audience to see that this room has been meant for these people and that theses people are
meant to torture one another. Each persons characteristics aim perfectly at annoying and torturing
each other to the point of exhaustion. The whole play is really a metaphor, showing that if people do
not take responsibility for their actions then they will live unfree lives, trapped in their own mistakes
will drive them to torture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

31. Book Review Of 'The Rhetorical Analysis Of Myth'sGene'
1. "I was beginning to see that Phineas could get away with anything. I couldn't help envying him
that a little, which was perfectly normal. There was no harm in envying even your best friend a
little." 25 Gene's inner dialogue is crucial since it gives the audience a chance to reveal his true
colors. Throughout the book, he seems to make logical excuses for his delusional actions.
Technically, there isn't harm in envying your best friend, but the way that Gene is carrying this
conversation with himself makes me believe that his logic is unstable. That in this case, there is
going to be harm in envying your best friend. This quote foreshadows that something bad will
happen to their friendship. 2. "Everyone has a moment in history which belongs particularly to him.
It is the moment when his emotions achieve their most powerful sway over him, and afterward
when you say to this person "the world today" or "life" or "reality" he will assume that you mean
this moment, even if it is fifty years past. The world, through his unleashed emotions, imprinted
itself upon him, and he carries the stamp of that passing moment forever." 40 I found this quote to
be a bit strange. Gene later goes on to claim that his "moment" was the war, but I believe it to be his
personal resentment towards Phineas. 3. "The thought was, You and Phineas are even already. You
are even in enmity." 53 Gene, without fail, has been jealous of Phineas, but in this quote, he

How would the world be a better place if everyone lived up to the value presented? This world
today in my opinion could use some manners. If everyone was to be more polite to one another, our
world would be doing bigger and better things then it already has been. Being polite is simply the
act of showing good manners to someone, it's really not that hard to use your please and thank you,
or to even just give a nice little comment to someone. Another right thing to do is to be kind;
holding the door, help someone carries stuff if his or her hands are full, complementing on some
one. The little things like that can brighten someone's day just like that. Being polite and kind to
someone can change their life. The simply words of "how are you" or "you look nice today" can

Throughout my life, I've had the opportunity to meet many people who have helped me become the
person I am today. But there's one person in particular who I know I couldn't live without and
therefore is the most important person in my life. This person will do anything she can for me, gives

Boston when I was about a week old. Although I don't remember of course she does. According to
her I was wrapped around two blankets when she first saw me. She'd made fun of how small I was.

with a little bit of wrinkles on her eyes and cheeks. She has narrow ears and thin eyebrows. She
likes to wear conservative church clothings. She loves loose and colorful dresses with her hoop

attend on Saturdays witch is what God says we should do, as he did work for six days and created
everything, on the seventh day he rested from all labors as clearly stated in the bible in Exodus
34:21. Many people may think Saturdays is a day to go out and have fun, or they say hey well i
could go to work and put more hours in for over time. But thats just killing yourself it really is, and
once you start realizing the many ways he starts blessing you just in everyday things you will soon
realize its worth it. The same happened to me when i first started going to church with my uncles i
had to work some Saturdays out of the month, soon after i talked with my boss and explained to him
i started to go to church on Saturdays and asked if i could be off all the time on that day, without
him even thinking about it he told me yes of course, even though he knew other people had asked
him the for the same thing and he would always said no to them, i mean that proved to me that God
was with me, I have to admit im not a saint and it is really hard to follow all that God wants from us
but its not impossible and what really counts is that he wants us to try and push ourself to be
stronger everyday. Now i have been going to church there for around a year and i have to say i love

36. Analysis Of 'The Seventh Man' By Haruki Murakami
Imagine you just stood back while watching your best friend get swept up into an enormous wave in
a typhoon, and he ends up deceased. You'd feel horrific, appaling, and guilty. You couldn't move in
the moment when it had happened, you were frozen, everything happened in a sluggish speed. You
wanted to reach out and grab him, but just couldn't think of how to react, something was holding
you back... and that something, was fear. However, if you tried saving him, your life may have been
taken away as well. You dont know weather to feel guilty for failing to save your friend, or if you
should be grateful that you survived. Should you forgive yourself for failing to save your friend–
even though it wasn't your responsibility to save them? Correspondingly, in "The Seventh Man" by
Haruki Murakami, the narrator has trouble forgiving himself after this tragic incident of his friend
"K". He has nightmares of K every night, and he sees him again. Sometimes he gets sucked into the
wave along with K and he wakes up in the night screaming, breathless, and drenched in sweat.
Although the nightmares differentiated, he tells about some of the the worst ones that have occured,
" Then, all of a sudden, someone grabs my right leg. I feel an ice–cold grip on my ankle. ... I'm
being dragged down under the surface. I see K's face there. ... I tried to scream, but my voice will
not come. I swallow water, and my lungs start to fill. ". ( Murakami, 140–141). The nightly

From what I remember that night it had been like any other. Repressed memories and such. I had

which put my mom on her toes whenever it was just me and her at home. I had known him as my
uncle and from the small things I noticed he had a thing for my mom. He'd sometimes put his hand

The Beautiful Game When I was young I never realized how significant sports are. I never saw or

the middle aged arab man that he was, didn't watch an abundance of American sports like all my
friends dad's did, but he still managed to catch a good amount of football games here and there. I
would hear the T.V. playing, the big first down decisions being called, the crowds extreme
involvement in the game. I would hear the basketball hitting the court, the shoes squeaking on quick
turns. These sounds all came to be very familiar to me. At times I'd wonder why I wasn't in any

play sports, the Hasan's got good grades and played important instrument roles in the band. I learned
to accept this philosophy for a very long time In my life. As I continued to walk along life's path,
sports followed close behind, stepping in my way just as soon as I would forget about it. Football
