Editor's Notes
What exactly is accreditation? Accreditation is a formal credentialing process for public relations professionals. Public relations accreditation is designed to provide standards of knowledge, skills and abilities that form the ideal model for best practices and success in our profession. Accreditation has been available to public relations practitioners for nearly 50 years. For a long time, the accreditation process remained relatively unchanged – it was a pretty good process, but in reality, it did not truly reflect the realities of business life and everyday practice. As you’ll see, the accreditation process and the examination materials have been improved dramatically, to more realistically reflect those realities, and to add value to practitioners; the internal and external clients we serve; and also the human relations and employment communities. We’ll talk more about these improvements – where we came from, where we are now, and where we’re going – a little bit later.
