Teenagers fall in love due to significant hormonal changes during puberty that impact emotions and drives. Hormones like testosterone and estrogen increase arousal and attraction, while oxytocin facilitates bonding. However, the teenage brain is still developing judgement and self-control. Media and society can influence teenagers' ideas about love and relationships in unhealthy ways. While teenage love itself is normal, counselling and awareness of its impacts can help prevent toxic relationships.
Adolescence is a time of growth and maturation in the brain, and it is also a time when many new behaviours begin to emerge (most of which irritate and frustrate parents!). These changes include changes in attention, in motivation and in risk-taking behaviour. Surprisingly, many of these behaviours are a direct result of brain changes, and are completely NORMAL!
Adolescence is a period where significant physical, emotional, mental changes take place. This presentation covers the nature of adolescence, physical changes, issues in adolescent health and adolescent cognition.

Infatuation is falling in love with or becoming extremely interested in someone or something for a short time. If you have an infatuation with a particular singer, you probably listen to her/him on repeat all day long, at least this week.
This is a powerpoint that I made up for one of my courses...it outlines different topics that counselors can break up to create group meeting topics or even workshops. Excellent for dating violence awareness week too.

Abuse and Addiction in Adolescence
Adolescence years, the years between 12 and 20, can be viewed by many as time of difficulty and instability. During this period, adolescents deal with emotional turbulence caused by identity issues and wanting to be accepted by society. The beginning of adolescence is marked by puberty, a flood of biological events leading to an adult-sized body and sexual maturity (Berk, 2010). During puberty, sex organs develop fully and sex characteristics emerge. Whether one believes this to be true, adolescence is describe by significant physical, psychological, intellectual, and social changes.
Drugs and Adolescences
The abuse of substance is an increasing area of concern in adolescents. According to Feldman (2014), one in 15 high school seniors smoke marijuana on a daily or near-daily basis. Adolescents are more likely to experiment with cigarettes or illicit drugs without experiencing adverse side effects. Because of this, teenagers are more likely to continue to use. The abuse of such substances has physical consequences for the emerging adolescents, and may produce techniques that imitate other psychopathological behaviors. Recurrent and extended consumption not only intensify their risk of developing a substance use disorder, but hinder the development of essential psychosocial skills.
Typically, all illicit drugs arouse the brain’s reward circuitry which supplies the pleasure feeling. This is extremely dangerous during the adolescence years because it causes adolescents to display risky behavior. The prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain that allows people to think, evaluate and make complex judgements in a uniquely human way (Feldman, 2014).
Effects of Substance Abuse
Studies have shown that substance abuse is also related to a wide variety of psychological disorders. Substance use disorders (SUDs) during adolescence include substance dependence and substance abuse, which result from the self-administration of any substance that alters mood, perception, or brain functioning (Mash et.al, 2010). Substance dependency does not just cause psychological dependence but also may cause physical dependence. For example, if a person uses drugs every time they are faced a stressful situation, it would cause they to depend on that drug to help them cope with the problem. If drugs are used as an escape, they may prevent adolescents from confronting—and potentially solving—the problems that led to them to drug use in the first place (Feldman, p. 372).
People who develop psychological dependence believe that in order to function effectively, they must have the substance in their system. Physical dependence occurs when the body acclimates ...
Mental disorders can affect women and men differently. Some disorders are more common in women, such as depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. There are also certain disorders that are unique to women. For example, some women experience symptoms of depression at times of hormone change, such as during or after pregnancy (perinatal depression), around the time of their period (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), and during menopause (perimenopause-related depression).
When it comes to other mental disorders, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, research has not found sex differences in the rates at which they are diagnosed. But certain symptoms may be more common in women than men, and the course of illness can be affected by a person’s sex. Researchers are only now beginning to tease apart the various biological and psychosocial factors that may impact mental health. What are symptoms of mental disorders in women?
Women and men can develop most of the same mental disorders and conditions, but they may experience different symptoms. Some common symptoms include:
Persistent sadness or feelings of hopelessness
Misuse of alcohol, drugs, or both
Dramatic changes in eating or sleeping habits
Appetite and/or weight changes
Decreased energy or fatigue
Excessive fear or worry
Seeing or hearing things that are not there
Extremely high and low moods

General Questions.
Teenager and their life.
Does love really exist .
Scientific Research.
Male/Female Prospective.
Role of media and society.
Is it toxic or not.
Impact of the teenage love after the hype period.
Is there any cure of this.
Conclusion.
5. Q: What is love? / is it an emotion or a
feeling?
THE BASICS. Anthropologist Helen Fisher holds that romantic love is never
an emotion or feeling. It's a drive, just like sexual desires and attachment.
Anger is an emotion, even if it is associated with a strong dopamine response,
the very chemical that can make people addicted to anger.
Love is not a drive; it is first and foremost something we feel in our hearts.
6. Q: Love in accordance with science!
Although love has long been a topic for philosophers and poets, there is an
actual science to love. Being in love is affected by huge, measurable changes in
the biochemistry of the brain. Science has identified three basic parts of love,
each driven by a unique blend of brain chemicals.
Lust is governed by both estrogen and testosterone, in both men and women.
Attraction is driven by adrenaline, dopamine, and serotonin—the same
chemicals that are released by exciting, novel experiences. Long-term
attachment is governed by a very different set of hormones and brain
chemicals—oxytocin and vasopressin, which encourage bonding. Interestingly,
oxytocin is known as the cuddle hormone, and is the hormone that drives the
bond between mother and child. Each of these chemicals works in a specific
part of the brain to influence lust, attraction and attachment.
Science has also shown that the process of falling in love can, in some cases, be
hurried along. In a small scale study, subjects who talked deeply to a perfect
stranger for 30 minutes, then stared into each other’s eyes for four minutes,
felt a deep and lasting attachment. One pair even went on to marry!
7. Fun Fact Question!
Which relation will be successful?
1)Lust.
2)Greed (money).
3)For overcoming Loneliness.
Depending upon the priorities every relation will be
successful as far as you truly know your priorities. However,
third scenario will have most placidity.
9. Classification of main hormones in Men
and Women.
Men Women
Testosterone Estrogen
Progesterone
In Females the hormones development starts from the age of 11.
However, in males the development of hormones start from the age of 12.
10. Hormonal Changes
Teen hormones affect teenagers’ moods, emotions, and impulses as well as their
body. The mood swings that teens experience are caused by fluctuations in
estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone—the love hormones. These same teen
hormones will also affect the way they think about dating and love. Teens become
much more interested in love, sometimes to the point of obsession, as teen
hormones kick into gear.
It’s hard to feel that your body and mind are being controlled by the forces of
nature instead of being directed by your own decisions. Many adolescents feel that
the changes they’re experiencing due to teenage hormones are weird, freakish, or
unnatural. In fact, almost everything that teens go through during adolescence is a
normal part of their development. Parents might find it hard to remember that,
once upon a time, they experienced exactly the same feelings and drives as their
teenage children do now. We’ve all been there!
11. A work in Progress
As well, the adolescent brain has been described as ‘a work in progress’,
with certain areas maturing more quickly than others, leading to potential
mismatches between physical, emotional and cognitive development. For example,
there can be incongruities between adult bodily appearance, increasing sex drive
and the brain development required for mature decision-making and self-regulation
of behaviour and emotions. The ‘executive functioning’ area of the brain – the
prefrontal cortex – is among the last areas of the brain to fully mature, usually
sometime in the twenties (Petanjek et al., 2011). Adolescence therefore becomes a
time of diminished prefrontal cortical control, with the heightened possibility of risk-
taking and poor judgement decisions, especially in environments described as
‘reward-sensitive’, where the temptations of immediate feel-good experiences are
high, such as in romantic and sexual situations (Braams et al., 2015; Suleiman &
Harden, 2016)
12. A work in Progress(breaking it down)
Teenage bodies and brains are maturing at a rate not experienced
since infancy. There is a growth spurt, development of secondary
sexual characteristics and young people change in appearance from
child to adult. Physical awkwardness often results from growth
asynchronies; young people can feel embarrassed and self-conscious
about the sexualization of their bodies or their perceived inadequacies
in terms of often-unrealistic body ideals.
13. Game of Hormones.
Hormonal changes, triggered by brain and body developments, are strongly
implicated in the intense feelings of sexual attraction and falling in love.
Testosterone and estrogen – male and female sexual hormones – are associated
with heightened sexual urges, while the hormones oxytocin and vasopressin are
implicated in attachment and bonding. During puberty, the volume of these
circulating sexual hormones in the body rises dramatically. In girls, their body
increase their production of estrogen sixfold and in boys, the testes produce 20
times the amount of testosterone.
14. Lets break it down and make it simple
Hormonal changes, triggered by brain and body developments, are
strongly implicated in the intense feelings of sexual attraction and falling in love.
16. Does love really exist
“I love you” is the most misused phrase on Earth..
It is the nice thing to say to someone, but do you mean it ?
A reporter asked an older couple “How did you manage to stay
together for 65 years ?”
The woman replies: “We were born in a time when something was
broken we would fix it; not just throw it away!..”
17. Contrary to popular belief (love and
Possession)
What most people call love today isn't love at all it’s POSSESSION.
POSSESSION other name is ADDICTION.
18. Difference between love and Possession
Love Possession
“I want you to be happy” “I want you to make me happy”
Love says “We” Possession says “me”
Love is the “sea” Possession is “Cage”
Love wants to “free” Possession wants to “Control”
Love “softens” the heart. Possession “hardens” the heart
Love sees the “Soul” Possession sees the “Body”
“Heels” all who hold it. Destroys those who “touch” it.
20. Facts gathered by studies..
Recent studies have shown that about 90 percent of teenager fall in
love.
The span of their relationship on average varies from 6 months to 2
years.
Men tends to avoid relationship after their teen break-up while girls
move on and give it a second chance.
Impact of teen break up is higher in men than women.
40% of teen boys start smoking after 1st break up.
Teens who had successful relationship and never encountered break
up, have 60% chances they will be rich.
The teenager(particularly men) who didn’t fall in love tends to be more
successful in future then those who had.
22. In teenage both genders have immature
prospective about their partners.
Priorities makes differences.
Men tends to fall for a women who is prettier and women tends to fall for a
handsome guy. Both lacks LOYALITY in their priorities. They think it is a
constant thing but it’s not.
As studies have shown the average span of a relationship is 6 months. It is the
time they realize that the person who pretends to be the nicest person on
Earth was actually a dummy to attract him/her.
24. Attracted to wrong influencers.
Studies have shown by the advancement of social media and movies teens are
more attracted towards possession than before.
Nearly 85% of cartoons shows that a male must have a female best friend
which in future will be his Girlfriend.
In Asia Bollywood shows significance increase in teen urge to fall in love than
any other region.
25. Fun Fact(How one dialogue nearly
influenced 95% teens in PAK/INDIA)
Love is friendship ... if she can't be my best friend, then I cannot fall in love with
her ... because love cannot happen without friendship ... simple, love is
friendship.
You will be surprised to know
that this one dialogue make
teens so confident of their
possession that nearly 174M
friends(boys and girls)
purpose each other just at
release date of this
movie(When this dialogue
went on air).
27. The simple answer is NO
It’s not toxic because it is something fundamental, because of production of
hormones at the most highest rate as compared to whole life.
But there are Warning signs that could mean your teen is in a toxic
relationship include: Your teen's partner is overly jealous or possessive.
You may see that your teen spends less time with friends and family or
stops participating in the activities they enjoyed.
28. Concept of Introvert
An introvert is a person with qualities of a personality type known as
introversion, which means that they feel more comfortable focusing on their
inner thoughts and ideas, rather than what's happening externally. They enjoy
spending time with just one or two people, rather than large groups or crowds.
Those teens who didn’t fall in the trap of love are more likely to become an
introvert and successful person.
30. Matureness
Studies have shown that after the hype period the teens will analyze the life
in a different way.
They will be more practical to life.
They will learn to control their feelings(significant changes in boys).
They will know the difference between LOVE and POSSESSION(only 40%)
32. Early Marriage and Counselling
Studies have shown that Early Marriages are the best way to prevent teens
from falling into a toxic relationship, Moreover studies have shown that early
marriages are more successful as compared to adult marriages.
Counselling is another way to prevent the teens form falling into an toxic
relationship. Spreading awareness about hormonal changes and teaching the
teens not to see this as an enormous problem rather deal with it in a
progressive way.
34. Conclusion
So far we have learned about how teens fall in love
Hormonal changes.
Impact of Media and Society
Early Marriages and Counselling
