The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) is a non-profit organization that examines and rates films and videos according to age ratings before they are released in the United Kingdom. The BBFC was originally established in 1912 as the British Board of Film Censors to classify films nationally and protect children from unsuitable media content. Now over 100 years later, the BBFC continues to classify and censor cinema films in the UK as an independent, non-governmental body funded by the film industry.
