White Privilege
In my FYS class we were given the assignment to write our opinion about White Privilege.
We were told to do this assignment for the week our Professor was out of town. The assignment
is a two paged paper. White privilege is basically a belief that white people get more benefits
than other races. Which I personally do not think is true. I do not think it is true because every
races have the same legal rights here in the United States of America. We do not have
segregation anymore. In court systems and throughout the government everyone is judged
equally. People are not discriminated against because of their skin color anymore. Everyone in
the United States are equal and have the same rights as everyone else. Because of all of that I do
not think that it is right for people to say white privilege is white people getting better treatment
than other races. True there are a few places that prefer a certain type of race.
An example of this is an Asian restaurant, in those restaurant’s the bosses prefer to hire
people of their race yet, there is no “Asian Privilege”. The same goes for people and things
(businesses for example) that prefer African Americans or Latinos. Like the previous example
there is no “African American Privilege” or “Latino Privilege”. Therefore it does not seem fair or
right to me that there is “White Privilege” even though everyone in this country no matter their
race have the same rights.

2. I feel like “White Privilege” is something that other races say whites have because they
weren’t discriminated against years and years ago. I understand why many years ago “White
Privilege” was a valid thing to be said but in my opinion I do not think it is valid anymore. True
under some social conditions races other than whites could be discriminated against, but in that
same sense in certain social conditions whites could be discriminated against as well. So to me
like I’ve previously said I do not think that it is fair for “White Privilege” to be considered
something legit and not “Asian Privilege”, “Latino Privilege” or “African American Privilege”.
Terrible things and clashes happened in the past between Caucasians and other races but that is
in the past. In present day things like that rarely happen, people are people no matter their skin
color.
