Whisper is a social discovery platform that
encourages people to explore, post and
share location specific content.

We were supported by mentors ; Andrew Donaldson HARMONY PARK, Dan
Jesse and Dan Matthews HYDRANT LTD, David Kinsella NTS ICT school,

Our centre was led by Hannah Stewart FREERANGE INDUSTRIES
Hosted by University of Cumbria Business School.
The problem...
• People are curious, they want to
explore
• Location/placed based apps are
like business directories and are
dull
• Rich information sites are
always only desktop based, they
don't work right there, when
you're out and about
• It'd be nice to hear authentic
content and experiences by
people when they're out and
about
The solution...
• Using open data to give context
to where you are – Connected
and aware
• Digital geo caching, that only
lets you get content when you're
right next to it - Authentic
• Users can add their experiences
and content like audio, images,
text and video – Users as
content makers
• Whisper empowers exploration
–incentivising curiosity
Data sets we used and how they affect the user
experience
How we split the work up around the team? And tech
we've used.
Whisper - user journey
Ahead of your trip, you pop onto the new social exploration
platform Whisper, to see if anyone has left any Whispers near
where you'll be...
RESULT! Someone has, but you have to be near the place it was
Whispered to access the unique content,
the open data context information is accessible ahead of time
though..
In Birmingham now, you're able to geo-locate yourself and nearby
Whispers, but you need to be close to 'hear' a Whisper…
WOOO! You're in the vicinity, right where your fellow
Whisperer stood a few weeks ago, check out their insights and
experiences and gain points for escaping the confides of your bedroom
to chase Whispers :)
While you're there, you decide to do some Whispering yourself,
leaving an authentic bit of content for other curious humans to come
and experience.
Whisper - You have to be there
