People with mental illness have long experienced prejudice and discrimination. Researchers have been able to study this phenomenon as stigma and have begun to examine ways of reducing this stigma. Public stigma is the most prominent form observed and studied, as it represents the prejudice and discrimination directed at a group by the larger population. Self-stigma occurs when people internalize these public attitudes and suffer numerous negative consequences as a result. In our article, we more fully define the concept of self-stigma and describe the negative consequences of self-stigma for people with mental illness. We also examine the advantages and disadvantages of disclosure in reducing the impact of stigma. In addition, we argue that a key to challenging self-stigma is to promote personal empowerment. Lastly, we discuss individual- and societal-level methods for reducing self-stigma, programs led by peers as well as those led by social service providers.

Threat arouses the nervous system, causing the endangered person to go into a state of alert.
Concentration on the immediate threat, allows a person to disregard fatigue or pain.
Changes in arousal, attention, perception, and emotion mobilize the person for either “fightor flight.”

processes in the period from about 1760 to sometime between 1820 and 1840. The process of
Industrial Revolution began in Britain in the 18th century and from there it spread to other parts
of the world. The most important machine tools invented during industrial revolution can be
elaborated or listed as below:- 1)John Kay\'s Fying Shuttle:-John Kay, was a mechanic from
Lancashire.He patented the flying shuttle. Using cords attached to a picking peg, a single weaver,
using one hand, could operate the shuttle on the loom. With this invention it took four spinners to
keep up with one cotton loom, and ten people to prepare yarn for one weaver.So while spinners
were often busy, weavers often waited for yarn. As such, the flying shuttle effectively doubled a
weaver\'s production of cloth. 2)James Hargreaves\' Spinning Jenny :-In the year1764, James
Hargreaves invented the Spinning Jenny,which was a device that allowed one person to spin
many threads at once, further increasing the amount of finished cotton that a worker could
produce. By turning a single wheel, one could now spin eight threads at once, a number that was
later increased to eighty. The thread, unfortunately, was usually coarse and lacked strength.
Despite this shortcoming, over 20,000 of the machines were in use in Britain by 1778 .3)Richard
Arkwright\'s Water Frame:-In the same year1764, Richard Arkwright created the Water Frame to
produce yarn faster . The \"Spinning-Frame,\" as it was known earlier, was too large to be
operated by hand. After experimenting with other sources of power, he decided to employ the
power of a water wheel, and his machine became known as the water frame . Rollers produced
yarn of the correct thickness, while a set of spindles twisted fibers together. The machine was
able to produce a thread far stronger than any other available at the time. 4)Samuel Crompton\'s
Crompton\'s Mule :-
In the year 1779, Samuel Crompton combined both the spinning jenny and the water frame to
create a machine known as Crompton\'s Mule, which produced large amounts of fine, strong
yarn. 5)James Watt\'s Steam Engine :-
In the year 1769, James Watt patented the steam engine and hence created a new source of
power. Early-model steam engines were introduced to drain water and raise coal from the mines,
but the crucial development was the use of steam for power. The first steam engine was actually
produced by Thomas Newcomen, but Watt later improved and patented it. We must be aware of

Threat arouses the nervous system, causing the endangered person to go into a state of alert.

ROLE of JURY
Juries are seen as playing an important role in our legal system. Juries have been used as part of
our legal system for more than one thousand years but it was not until trial by ordeal was done
away with in 1215 that they became an integral part of our criminal justice system. In the same
yearMagna Carta also formally acknowledged the principle of an individual’s right to trial by
their peers. The jury we are now familiar with and whose role it is to “faithfully try the defendant
and give a true verdict according to the evidence” is relatively young. It is only over the last 300
years or so that a jury has become established which is as independent as we now see it and
which does not have any influence on law making or any knowledge of the defendant. Set out
below is the role of juries in criminal cases.
Juries are used in trials in the Crown Court. The jurisdiction of the Crown Court provides for the
hearing of more serious offences on indictment. The offenders will have first appeared in the
Magistrates’ Court and been committed or indicted to trial at the Crown Court. If there is a not
guilty plea there will be a jury trial. If a guilty plea is entered then there will be no need for a trial
and the Judge will decide upon the appropriate sentence.
The jury is randomly selected from persons entered on the electoral register and they must not
be involved in any way with the case. They are required to make an informed decision about
whether the accused is guilty or innocent. The jury is told by the trial judge that they must base
their decision upon the evidence put before them during the trial and not upon anything else,
including things said outside of the court or anything they may have read. The jury must
therefore listen to the evidence but their role may also include being made aware of physical
exhibits and photographs and in some complex cases may include accompanied visits to crime
scenes.
Towards the end of the trial, and once all the evidence has been presented by both sides, it is the
job of the trial judge to assist the jury in their task by summing up the evidence and directing
them as to what the law is.
After the summing up, the jury are put in the hands of a jury bailiff who is sworn in and made
aware of their duties by the trial judge. The jury leaves the court and must retire to a jury room
where they are required to deliberate and come to a decision as to whether the defendant is guilty
or not. The jury will deliberate in private.
Despite any direction by the trial judge about the law and the facts of the case at the end of the
trial, one feature of the jury system is that the jury are free to make up their own minds, free from
any outside influence and pressure. Th.
