With the increasing focus on globalization of products and services, the need to understand user experience in distant markets is more urgent. However, conducting global user research can be confusing and is a significant risk of time and resources. In this webinar, we talk through several methods for global research. We’ll present these various methods and the tradeoffs and considerations for choosing one method over another. We’ll also step through the elements of success in conducting a global study – from planning to results.
This webinar is not about localization or globalization of user interfaces, it will instead focus on methods and practices for how one conducts successful global user research.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

2. WhereCamp
• Free conference Thursday and Friday. Hack day
Saturday
• About geo and more specifically 'routing'
• Lots of startups in Berlin. Startups love geo right
now
Here is what's hot....
3. Indoor routing
• GPS is not much use indoors
• Usual practice is use wifi, accelerometer, or beacons
• Stereoscopic imaging demoed
• Use case #1 station/airport routing for the blind
• #2 shopping mall routing
• #3 'Minority Report' targeted advertising
• Looking for a killer use case
4. Geocoding
• An old friend returns
• Existing services are expensive and not (generally)
worldwide
• Address formats for different countries (Lokku)
• Use OpenStreetMap as a source
• Nominatum uses old tech, NoSQL is faster (Mapbox)
• What3words describe anywhere
5. Apple ibeacon
• Small device transmits UUID to short radius
• iPhone or Android devices receive and react
• Use case #1 targeted advertising
• #2 indoor geolocation and routing
• Beacon could be carried or be attached to an item of
equipment
• Flexible offices, and lots of things not thought of yet
6. A slightly cavalier attitude
towards privacy
• Pervasive advertising, or invasive?
• How to stay unnoticed when continually tracking
device location
• Industry standard?
• And Germany so strict too
7. Paying for Open Source
• Never free. Always an implementation cost
• Proprietary software also has this cost + the licence 'tax'
• Contributors get paid via implementation services or consulting
• Sponsor a feature with company cash, or time/resources
• Or simply acknowledge the huge saving with a donation?
• Publish an annual Open Source Usage Statement. Pay a
%age.
• 'Greenwashing'? Should they quit squealing?
8. The one thing to remember is:
Conferences are about conferring
with other attendees. Be present.
Be interesting. Take part.
