Rocinha is the largest favela in Brazil, located in Rio de Janeiro between São Conrado and Gávea. It is built on a steep hillside overlooking Rio and home to around 69,161 residents. While Rocinha began as a rural area supplying produce to markets, it has grown into a dense urban community with over 100,000 residents living in tightly packed homes and shanties up to 11 stories tall. The 2014 World Cup brought tourism and happiness to residents who got to see players, but living conditions remain challenging due to poverty and lack of space in the crowded landscape.
