4. What is Homosexual?
A sexual attraction to (or
sexual relations with)
persons of the same
sex.
5. When did homosexuality
start?
Homosexuality has been
documented in Western society as
far back as the Ancient Greeks.
Virtually every civilization since has
had some record of the presence of
homosexuality, from Ancient Greece
to Rome to Victorian England, right
up to the present day.
6. How did homosexuality
evolve?
According to the alliance-formation
hypothesis, same-sex sexuality
evolved by natural selection because
it created or strengthened male-male
alliances and allowed low-status
males to reposition themselves in the
group hierarchy and thereby increase
their reproductive success.
7. How did ancient Rome view
homosexuality?
•Freeborn male Romans had the civil
liberty to do as they pleased when it
came to sexual activity, and as such, the
concept of a Roman man engaging in
homosexual sex was in no way
controversial or taboo to the Romans,
as long as it fell within certain
parameters.
8. What is the Darwinian paradox?
•In the past, homosexual behaviour was
often ignored because it supposedly
contradicted Darwin's theory of
evolution. Scientists
argued homosexuality was a sort of
'Darwinian paradox' because it involved
sexual behaviour that was non-
reproductive.
9. Who created Lgbtq month?
Teacher Rodney Wilson
It was founded in 1994 by Missouri high-
school history teacher Rodney Wilson.
LGBT History Month provides role models,
builds community, and represents a civil
rights statement about the contributions
of the LGBTQ+ community.
10. Who created pride flag?
•Designed by artist Gilbert Baker at the
request of San Francisco City
Supervisor and first openly gay elected
official in the history of California,
Harvey Milk, the original rainbow flag
made its debut at the San Francisco
Gay Freedom Day Parade celebration
on June 25, 1978
11. Why is it called pride?
•"Pride" is the designated name or
slogan that commemorates the
anniversary of the Stonewall Inn Riots.
It started in 1970, a year after the
Stonewall Inn Riots took place, as a
peaceful march with no dress
restrictions where people could express
themselves and their sexuality freely.
12. Why is the LGBT flag a rainbow?
•The rainbow was chosen to
represent the LGBTQ community
by Gilbert Baker, a gay artist who
wanted to make a proud
statement through a symbol
showing diversity. He believed
that the rainbow was ideal
because it is found in nature.
13. In 2013, only 1% abstained and 26%
said they do not accept homosexuality.
This means that there were less who
said they were against homosexuality
in 2019. The 2013 and 2019
acceptance rates are higher than when
the same survey was conducted in
2002. Back then, 64% of Filipinos
accepted homosexuality.
