Op Art, also known as Optical Art, was an art movement that developed in the United States in the mid-1960s. It uses color and abstract patterns to create the illusion of movement through optical effects and illusions. Artists employ shapes, colors like black and white, and special patterns to generate images that appear to vibrate or move. Unlike traditional paintings, Op Art aims to reach out to the viewer rather than draw the viewer into the work.

that combines color and abstract patterns to
create an impression of movement on the
pictures surface by means of powerful optical
effects and illusions. Optical illusion is an
illusion caused by the visual system and
characterized by a visual percept that appears
to differ from reality.

and white), and patterns in special ways to
create images that looks as if they are
moving. In traditional paintings, the aim was
to draw the viewer into the work. In contrast,
Op Art pictures seem to move, vibrate or
both, and reach out to the viewer.
