With this presentation we will learn to develop an understanding of the relationships between the structures and functions of the human digestive system and digestive processes which include the processes of digestion include six activities: ingestion, propulsion, mechanical or physical digestion, chemical digestion, absorption, and defecation
The document discusses the human digestive and nutrition systems. It explains that nutrients from food are broken down into smaller molecules that can be absorbed and used by the body. The digestive system breaks food down mechanically and chemically. Accessory organs like the liver and pancreas produce enzymes and bile that aid digestion. Food passes through the esophagus, stomach, and small and large intestines as it is broken down and absorbed. Undigested waste is eliminated as feces.
The digestive system is a group of organs that processes food and breaks it down into nutrients that the body can use. Food travels through the digestive tract, which includes the mouth, esophagus, stomach, and intestines. In these organs, food is broken down through both mechanical and chemical digestion. Nutrients are then absorbed into the bloodstream to feed the entire body while waste is excreted. Maintaining a healthy digestive system requires eating a balanced diet with fiber, limiting irritants, and using digestive aids.
The document discusses animal nutrition and the human digestive system. It describes the main stages of food processing as ingestion, digestion, absorption, and elimination. It then details the organs involved in the human digestive system, including the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and associated subsections. The mechanisms of digestion and absorption are summarized, along with how nutrients are delivered to cells. Finally, some common health problems related to nutrition and digestion are cited.
The process of nutrition in amoeba involves ingestion of food particles using pseudopodia, digestion of the food within a food vacuole by enzymes, absorption of digested materials into the cytoplasm, assimilation of nutrients to gain energy and materials for growth and repair, and egestion of undigested waste. Nutrition in humans similarly involves ingestion through the mouth, digestion of food through secretion of enzymes in the mouth, stomach, and small intestine, absorption of digested nutrients in the small intestine, assimilation of nutrients by cells, and egestion of undigested waste through the large intestine and rectum.
This document provides information about the digestive system and its functions. It explains the four main functions of the digestive system as ingestion, digestion, absorption, and excretion. Each step of the digestive process is defined, including the two phases of digestion. The key organs involved in digestion such as the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, pancreas, liver, and large intestine are identified and their roles explained. Healthy habits to support digestion and interesting facts about the digestive system are also noted.
Here are the key functions of the pancreas in digestion:
- Produces pancreatic juices containing enzymes that help break down food:
- Pancreatic lipase breaks down fats
- Pancreatic amylase breaks down carbohydrates
- Proteases break down proteins
- Releases pancreatic juices into the small intestine through the pancreatic duct
- The enzymes help further break down what the stomach has partially digested, preparing nutrients for absorption in the small intestine
- Also produces hormones like insulin and glucagon that help regulate blood sugar levels
So in summary, the pancreas plays an important role in both the digestive and endocrine systems by producing enzymes and hormones that aid digestion and metabolism. Its enzymes
The digestive system of a frog consists of a digestive tract and accessory organs. Food enters the mouth where it is mixed with saliva and passed to the stomach through the esophagus. Partial digestion occurs in the stomach through enzymes. The partially digested food then moves to the small intestine where most digestion takes place, aided by secretions from the pancreas and liver. Absorption of nutrients occurs in the small intestine and large intestine, with waste expelled via the cloaca.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

What is digestion? Class 7 Science
Digestion in humans : Human beings exhibit a holozoic mode of nutrition
involving five basic steps i.e., ingestion, digestion, absorption, assimilation,
and egestion.
Digestion: The process by which food is broken down into simple absorbable
substances is called Digestion. Digestion of food takes place in the digestive
system. The digestive system is composed of the alimentary canal and
associated glands. Digestion in man is an extracellular process. Humans take
food through the mouth, digest the food and finally, the undigested food is
removed from the body. The food passes from the oral cavity and finally, the
undigested food is defecated through the anus.
It is a complex process involving the following steps:
Ingestion – Ingestion refers to the intake of food. Ingestion takes place through
Mouth
Digestion – Digestion refers to the breakdown of ingested food into simpler
forms. Teeth, Stomach, Small intestine and secretion from various glands help in
Digestion
2. www.takshilalearning.com call 8800999284
Absorption – Absorption refers to the process in which digested food is absorbed
into the body fluids (Blood & lymph). Small intestine plays a major role in Absorption
Assimilation – Assimilation refers to the process in which absorbed food is
transported to different cells of the body
Egestion – Egestion refers to the process of removal of undigested food from the
body. Large intestine plays a major role in Egestion
Parts of the digestive tract in humans
The digestive tract in humans starts from the mouth and ends at the anus. It is
also called as the alimentary canal.
The parts of the digestive tract are:
Mouth and buccal cavity
Food pipe/Oesophagus
Stomach
3. www.takshilalearning.com call 8800999284
Small intestine
Large intestine
Rectum
Anus
There are some associated glands that secrete enzymes which help in digestion
of food. These include:
Salivary glands
Liver
Pancreas
The digestive tract and the associated glands together constitute
the digestive system.
