3D printing uses molten deposition modeling to extrude plastic layer by layer based on a 3D design file. 3D designs can be created using computer-assisted modeling software or 3D scanners, and involve shaping geometric data similarly to sculpting. While early 3D printers were large, expensive and limited, additive processes have advanced to include industrial applications as well as domestic, hobbyist, fashion, eyewear, bio-printing and medical implant uses.
