The Current Education
Scenario
1. Research shows that approximately 25% students who pass
out of higher education are employable.
2. Most of the students are forced to work outside their domain
areas as they lack the relevant knowledge /skills.
3. Governments spend around Rs 5 lakh crores on education
out of which 77 % is borne by State Governments/UTs.
4. Share of States/UTs and Central Government expenditure in
terms of GDP is 3.4% and 1% respectively.

 Hard skills are a set of technical skills you need to have to perform at work place.
Technical skills are specific talents and expertise an individual has to have to perform a
certain task or job acquired through practice and learning.
Hard skills include analytical reasoning, sales, coding, data analysis and so on.
 Soft skills are inherent skills relating to an individual’s character or personality.
They include interpersonal skills , empathy, leadership , management skills,
adaptability , learning skills, communication, negotiation skills, creativity etc.
They are usually inherent and are extremely difficult to teach.

Know…
1. Getting a job is the main purpose of getting a degree, unless you want to become an entrepreneur.
2. The aim of a student is to excel in studies. Every thing comes next.
3. Parents support is available as long as they are alive. Then what?
4. If you are not born rich, you need to work; to live.
5. Money can make things easy. Lack of it will force you to compromise in life.
6. Time is the only product which cannot be stored in a freezer. Strike the iron when it is hot.
7. Instead of regretting later , invest in career building.
8. Beauty is skin deep. Talent takes you far.
9. Love can wait. Get a job first.
10. As Robert Mugabe has said- “No girl will choose six packs over six cars, so stop going to the gym and
go to work ”. Get a job first, then desire for love.

What A Job Seeker Should Know?
1. Getting a good job is not easy. Plan and organize activities to achieve the goal.
2. Government cannot provide job to everybody. The best will succeed.
3. Time is fugitive , respect it.
4. Your own classmates would be your closest competitors during placements.
5. Learn to implement. Study to apply the concepts.
6. Be prepared to relocate. Don’t expect to get a job in our own city/town.
7. Make the employer feel desperate to recruit you. Show some promise.
8. Don’t only look at salary/position; organization's reputation matters.
9. Don’t be in a hurry to become CEO. Respect seniors.
10. The Journey to the top is not a waltz, it is a series of acrobats.

Changes Required in Higher
Education
1. Parents have to take equal responsibility for the students education.
2. Managements should look at education as a philanthropic activity and
not as a business.
3. The Government’s education policy has to be made more result
oriented and outcome based. There is a feeling that the money is being
wasted through various schemes
4. Curriculum should be redesigned to provide livelihood to the pass outs.
5. More vocational courses have to be introduced. NEP2020 aims at
vocational education in schools from Class 6. A welcome move.

Changes Required…
6. Students should be trained to start his/her career as an entrepreneur or
as a salaried person. There should be no two ways about it.
7. Institution-Industry collaboration should be made mandatory . States
should seek Industry cooperation.
8. Governments should make mandatory for industries to offer internship
to students. Allocate Institutions to different industries.
9. Teachers are integral to the education system and without improving
their effectiveness it would be difficult to improve the quality of education.
10. Every two years new subjects need to be introduced in the curriculum
to align with the emerging technologies. Foresight of planners is very
much the need of the hour.

Every thing comes next. 3. Parents support is available as long as they are alive. Then what? 4. If you are not born rich, you need to work; to live. 5. Money can make things easy. Lack of it will force you to compromise in life. 6. Time is the only product which cannot be stored in a freezer. Strike the iron when it is hot. 7. Instead of regretting later , invest in career building. 8. Beauty is skin deep. Talent takes you far. 9. Love can wait. Get a job first. 10.   • 19. What A Job Seeker Should Know? 1. Getting a good job is not easy. Plan and organize activities to achieve the goal. 2. Government cannot provide job to everybody. The best will succeed. 3. Time is fugitive , respect it. 4. Your own classmates would be your closest competitors during placements. 5. Learn to implement. Study to apply the concepts. 6. Be prepared to relocate. Don’t expect to get a job in our own city/town. 7. Make the employer feel desperate to recruit you. Show some promise. 8. Don’t only look at salary/position; organization's reputation matters. 9.   • 20. Changes Required in Higher Education 1. Parents have to take equal responsibility for the students education. 2. Managements should look at education as a philanthropic activity and not as a business. 3. The Government’s education policy has to be made more result oriented and outcome based. There is a feeling that the money is being wasted through various schemes 4. Curriculum should be redesigned to provide livelihood to the pass outs. 5. More vocational courses have to be introduced.   • 21. Changes Required… 6. Students should be trained to start his/her career as an entrepreneur or as a salaried person. There should be no two ways about it. 7. Institution-Industry collaboration should be made mandatory . States should seek Industry cooperation. 8. Governments should make mandatory for industries to offer internship to students. Allocate Institutions to different industries. 9. Teachers are integral to the education system and without improving their effectiveness it would be difficult to improve the quality of education. 10. Every two years new subjects need to be introduced in the curriculum to align with the emerging technologies. Foresight of planners is very much the need of the hour. 15-12-2020 DR.
