About NDIM
Established in 1992, NDIM is committed to impart the highest qulity of education and exposure to
help develop the next generation of business leaders with global outlook and capability of adapting
to the fast-changing business environment of India and the world at large. By introducing new
specialization areas and adopting an innovative pedagogy, the institute has been constantly working
to develop professionals with vision, courage and dedication to initiate and manage the change.
Vision:
NDIM was founded with the Vision of being a global learning hub, a unique gurukul to nurture
courageous global change leaders through holistic, transformative and innovative learning.
Mission:
With the Mission of reviving centuries old rich educational heritage of India, the founders
conceived NDIM to be a catalyst for limitless learning with human values providing equal
opportunity to one and all.
India's premier B-School, New Delhi Institute of Management has been consistently ranked among
the top MBA schools of India by the AIMA, IMRB, Business World, Business Standard, Business
India, DNA Group of Newspapers and the KPMG. It is approved by the AICTE, Govt. of India,
since 1996 and declared MBA equivalent, both by the Association of Indian Universities and the
AICTE, since 2008.
Over the years, more than 1000 companies of repute have recruited at NDIM and given 100% finest
placements year on year basis with more than 250 companies recruiting at its campus every year for
the past 5 years. Business India has consistently rated NDIM in the highest A+++ category, while
KPMG has ranked NDIM among the fastest growing MBA-schools of Asia.
Full time faculty of NDIM is highly rated and is drawn from 201 industries & corporate houses and
19 international universities. The faculty continues to teach at European universities and is on the
boards of several multinational companies, a rare distinction for any academia. The faculty designs
and conducts trainings and consultancies for top professionals of the corporate world and for
Government of India and is being regularly invited to train the families of India's civil servants,
staff of India's Parliament and State Assemblies including senior commandants of the para military
forces.
Unlike most other PGDMs and MBA programs, PGDM at NDIM is unique as the students graduate
with 'Dual Specialization' rather than 1 major and 1 minor specialization as in most other b-schools.
Students pick up 2 Major Specializations out of HR, Marketing, Finance, IT & Systems, Media
Marketing & Communication, Logistics-Supply Chain Management & Operations and International
Business. MBA with two Specializations multiplies the career opportunities and opens wider
options.
NDIM's PGDM is known for its 'Case Based Learning' and 'Skill Based Curriculum' which is
regularly fine-tuned to changing global requirements by 93 recruiters across different sectors of
industry, who constitute its ‘Academic Advisory Council'.
NDIM is a sought-after MBA school because of its strong "Industry Interface" for which it has been
rated at first place in India and bracketed with IIM (K) and MDI. The high 'Industry Interface' has
facilitated longest hours of 'Continuous Corporate Connect' for every student who prepares those to
global expectations. Taking advantage of its industry connect, every first-year student of NDIM has
worked on minimum two 'live projects' at recruiters' premises as NDIM was offered 717 'live
projects' with top Indian companies during the last 12 months in addition to 8 weeks of 'Summer
Internship' for all the students with blue chip companies. Strong Industry connect of NDIM has
ensured continuous grooming for leadership and strategic positions under the unique 'Corporate
Mentorship Program' which is driven by 137 senior industry professionals over a continuous period

of 12 months for all the students. Additionally, every student works on a major industry project of
14 weeks as part of their PGDM-MBA program.
In addition to 717 projects in India, NDIM offered 120 international projects in 15 countries to its
1st year students in the last 2 years with free boarding & lodging. NDIM is perhaps the only MBA
School to be offering such many international projects, courtesy it's highly distinguished board of
directors.
Corporate connect of NDIM students is further strengthened with their regular one to one
interaction with the industry captains at the platforms of FICCI, CII, ASSOCHAM, PHDCII and
several TV channels where they are invited on continual basis. This direct interaction with industry
stalwarts at the biggest business chambers opens students' personality in a big way and puts NDIM
students on a higher platform. NDIM students participated at 83 such high business platforms
during the last one year.
Currently, NDIM is steered by global leaders of eminence to ensure international standards in
curriculum, faculty, teaching pedagogy, and industry connect and placements.

Existence of NDIM as a brand
Amidst so many big and reputed colleges in Delhi, NDIM has made itself a brand in recent years.
Established in 1992 the college has come a long way. I went out in the field and asked random
people about their knowledge of B Schools in Delhi. To my surprise JIMS was making the most
number of counts in my notebook and reason is that JIMS offers multiple courses and it has
multiple branches in major parts of the city but as I moved onto the more better and intellectual
segment NDIM unsurprisingly started doing the round.
NDIM is well known in DU colleges and Jamia University. The NDIM (BBA) which comes under
IP University gives a strong edge too and also a ready bunch of BBA students who love the brand
NDIM and I am saying this because I had personal interactions with these BBA students while
sitting in their canteen.
Advantages & Disadvantages of NDIM:
NDIM has triple the seats compared to its competitor which gives advantage as well as
disadvantage to the brand. Advantage is that more number of seats shows the college’s strength of
strong placements despite its more number of students and it also shows the strength of the
college’s infrastructure to intake so many students. The disadvantage is sometimes it gives a
negative image to the college, students want a small classroom strength and it also sometimes gives
a negative message that the college has no strong admission procedure.
Fee structure of NDIM:
The fee structure is comparatively much better than other colleges like IILM who take as much as 6
lakh per year (12 Lakh) for the full time course, which is around 5 lakh more than NDIM’s fee, the
college also boast of the best industry interface (ranked highest in India). The college has also
owned the tag of “A MARKETING COLLEGE” because of its excellent placement in sales and
marketing. The brand image will only grow further as NDIM is making its presence felt on big
platforms like ISL league (Football league of India). NDIM getting linked up with various trade
fares and even important summits like BRICS summit and Sahitya Aaj tak is a proof of its growing
brand image. NDIM is also may be the only college having a current cabinet minister on its board
of directors list (Mr. Suresh Prabhu). The coming years may see NDIM as the top private B school
in north India.

Suggestions of establishing Brand NDIM
Business schools like NDIM traditionally have not always thought very much in terms of marketing
and in terms of branding their schools, although they teach branding a lot. But then, increasingly, the
brand of the business school is going to be very important to attract students, to attract donors and
companies for executive development.
NDIM should not only teach branding ideas and techniques to the students, but also apply themselves,
‘practice what you teach’. That is the key message. What NDIM is doing is that they do not really
distinguish themselves from other b schools. There is a competition where we see a lot of new
business schools coming to the market, a lot of MBA/PGDM degrees are being offered by minor
business schools, the market is less and less clear, what we have is a brand proliferation and business
schools proliferation; many of them having weak brands, there is a danger of taking down the value
of the MBA/PGDM degree itself since we are inundated by MBA/PGDM degrees and people with
MBA/PGDM degrees.
More and more it will be important not that you have an MBA/PGDM degree, but from which school
do you have an MBA degree. That was always important, but will be even more important in the
future. Now we are talking about the brand building of NDIM, and it is the same situation as with
what cell phone you have or what car you drive. At the core level, it is a brand thing. The difference
in brand reputation is often larger than the difference in objective quality, and that is branding.
Business schools that are being established in emerging markets, or any new business school or
business school that is not Harvard, face some of these challenges, but business schools from
emerging markets face especially strong challenges. Business schools from emerging markets, or if
we look into DELHI NCR in specific, some are not always associated with high quality research
incentives. When we look at the total volume of high quality research that is being produced by
business schools in emerging markets, it is not very large. Salaries and wages are low, so there is a
challenge, for example, if you look at a person with PhD from a major school in the US, UK or
Australia… for these people it is not very attractive to go back to an emerging market, the salaries
are just very low, even if you take purchasing power into account. There is another issue, and that is
that attracting the best and the brightest unfortunately costs a lot of money.
People may not always realize that academics are one of the most global citizens, and that has been
the case since middle ages. In academia, there is one common language, it used to be Latin, that is
now English, and you can evaluate any academic in the world, because the metrics are very
standardized. There is a limited set of top journals, and you can look at citations, it is all very
transparent, we have a common language, we have common metrics, we can assess eventually
anybody and researches are round to go to the best places.
And then the final thing, the final hurdle that needs to be overcome, is the mindset of students and
faculty. Students that come from hierarchical, collectivistic cultures, where group thinking is more
important and where group opinions are more important than individual opinions, those people find
it very difficult to develop their own thinking because in their educational system it was never
encouraged. Critical thinking is crucial for academic success, but if you have been socialized for
many years in elementary school or secondary school, or as an undergraduate, to be listening what
the great man, the teacher or the professor, what he was saying, and that your learning is focused on
reproducing what is being said, rather than creating new insights, then it is very difficult to switch
towards becoming a creative researcher.

13 | Pa g e Suggestions of establishing Brand NDIM Business schools like NDIM traditionally have not always thought very much in terms of marketing and in terms of branding their schools, although they teach branding a lot. But then, increasingly, the brand of the business school is going to be very important to attract students, to attract donors and companies for executive development. NDIM should not only teach branding ideas and techniques to the students, but also apply themselves, ‘practice what you teach’. That is the key message. What NDIM is doing is that they do not really distinguish themselves from other b schools. There is a competition where we see a lot of new business schools coming to the market, a lot of MBA/PGDM degrees are being offered by minor business schools, the market is less and less clear, what we have is a brand proliferation and business schools proliferation; many of them having weak brands, there is a danger of taking down the value of the MBA/PGDM degree itself since we are inundated by MBA/PGDM degrees and people with MBA/PGDM degrees. More and more it will be important not that you have an MBA/PGDM degree, but from which school do you have an MBA degree. That was always important, but will be even more important in the future. Now we are talking about the brand building of NDIM, and it is the same situation as with what cell phone you have or what car you drive. At the core level, it is a brand thing. The difference in brand reputation is often larger than the difference in objective quality, and that is branding. Business schools that are being established in emerging markets, or any new business school or business school that is not Harvard, face some of these challenges, but business schools from emerging markets face especially strong challenges. Business schools from emerging markets, or if we look into DELHI NCR in specific, some are not always associated with high quality research incentives. When we look at the total volume of high quality research that is being produced by business schools in emerging markets, it is not very large. Salaries and wages are low, so there is a challenge, for example, if you look at a person with PhD from a major school in the US, UK or Australia… for these people it is not very attractive to go back to an emerging market, the salaries are just very low, even if you take purchasing power into account. There is another issue, and that is that attracting the best and the brightest unfortunately costs a lot of money. People may not always realize that academics are one of the most global citizens, and that has been the case since middle ages. In academia, there is one common language, it used to be Latin, that is now English, and you can evaluate any academic in the world, because the metrics are very standardized. There is a limited set of top journals, and you can look at citations, it is all very transparent, we have a common language, we have common metrics, we can assess eventually anybody and researches are round to go to the best places. And then the final thing, the final hurdle that needs to be overcome, is the mindset of students and faculty. Students that come from hierarchical, collectivistic cultures, where group thinking is more important and where group opinions are more important than individual opinions, those people find it very difficult to develop their own thinking because in their educational system it was never encouraged. Critical thinking is crucial for academic success, but if you have been socialized for many years in elementary school or secondary school, or as an undergraduate, to be listening what the great man, the teacher or the professor, what he was saying, and that your learning is focused on reproducing what is being said, rather than creating new insights, then it is very difficult to switch towards becoming a creative researcher.
