The Women's Giving Circle of Howard County is celebrating over a decade of philanthropic work. They have provided over $1 million in grants to organizations supporting women and girls. This year, they have $125,000 available to give out in grants to further their mission of addressing needs of women and girls in the county. They also recently awarded a $100,000 multi-year grant to support long-term initiatives building self-worth and self-sufficiency for women and girls. The annual meeting celebrates their accomplishments and impact.

Surfers In A Dress (SIAD) is a charity event, founded by Greg Beazley in 2012, whereby participants wear a school dress and go surfing to raise awareness and funds for girls’ education in Sierra Leone, Africa.
SIAD acts on behalf of the charity One Girl and their Do It In Dress initiative.
One Girl, an Australian based charity, tackles the serious issue of education being inaccessible to many girls in Sierra Leone.
This presentation provides an overview of the SIAD 2013 campaign with related results.

2015 JCI Sponsorship Committee overview

These recommendations were presented to the community and city officials. An executive committee will now work to implement the strategic plan, while a community foundation is being established to support the efforts through additional funding and involvement. The goal is to ensure the downtown area better meets the needs of the future.
African volunteer aid
African Volunteer Aid was born in 2014 when Founder Jessica Charlotte volunteered with another organisation and discovered that her volunteering fees were being kept by the organisation rather than being used to help the communities who desperately needed the funding.
2) 12.09.2017 - Changing Community Services Together Event
This document summarizes a Provider Engagement Forum held by Hertfordshire County Council to discuss changing community services. The forum included presentations on connecting people's lives through social work, creating opportunities through day services, and workgroups. It discussed reviewing day support services, which currently includes day centers, activities, and outreach. Engagement with providers and over 300 people found that relationships, activities, and community involvement are most important. The council aims to shift to more community and preventative support through hubs, groups, and activities, with specialist support for skills and places in some cases. Female futures of philanthropy - what can be learned from current donor trends?
Women are more likely than men to donate to charities and give to more causes over their lifetime. While men on average give higher amounts, some research shows that single women give more than single men up to the top 10-25% of donors. Women are also more likely than men to leave charitable bequests. There are small but persistent gender differences in patterns of charitable giving, though these differences may decrease as women's access to social capital changes in the future. Women donors tend to distribute smaller gifts more widely across causes including animal welfare and religious organizations.

Nearly 80 million people were under alerts in the US north-east and midwest yesterday as temperatures in some municipalities reached record highs in a test to the country’s rickety power grid.

Despite sanctions on its economy, the Kremlin continues to be an unrivalled exporter of nuclear power plants, building more than half of all reactors under construction globally. Today’s Energy Source dives into the latest Statistical Review of World Energy, the industry’s annual stocktake of global energy consumption. The report was published for more than 70 years by BP before it was passed over to the Energy Institute last year. The oil major remains a contributor.
Data Drill looks at a new analysis from the World Bank showing gas flaring is at a four-year high.

New report offers sobering view of the energy transition
Every year the Statistical Review of World Energy offers a behemoth of data on the state of the global energy market. This year’s findings highlight the world’s insatiable demand for energy and the need to speed up the pace of decarbonisation.
Here are our four main takeaways from this year’s report:
Fossil fuel consumption — and emissions — are at record highs
Countries burnt record amounts of oil and coal last year, sending global fossil fuel consumption and emissions to all-time highs, the Energy Institute reported. Oil demand grew 2.6 per cent, surpassing 100mn barrels per day for the first time.
Meanwhile, the share of fossil fuels in the energy mix declined slightly by half a percentage point, but still made up more than 81 per cent of consumption.
