Wetlands are areas where water covers the soil or is present near the surface for all or part of the year. There are two main categories of wetlands: coastal/tidal wetlands found along coastlines where saltwater mixes with freshwater, and inland/non-tidal wetlands located along rivers, streams, lakes, and low-lying areas. Wetland restoration aims to return an ecosystem impacted by human disturbance back to its original condition prior by reconstructing physical conditions, adjusting soil and water chemistry, and reintroducing native plants and animals.
