Exito shareholders approved a plan for Exito, a Colombian retailer, to purchase two supermarket chains in Uruguay called Disco and Devoto for $746 million. Exito will issue up to $1.4 billion in new shares to fund the acquisitions, which should be completed by the end of September. Both Exito and the Uruguayan chains are majority owned by French retailer Casino Guichard-Perrachon, so the deal will allow Casino to expand in Latin America through Exito. Exito shares fell 1.2% following the announcement of the new share issue plan.
