Technology use in classrooms in today’s world is believed to have a positive impact on
students’ success and their attitudes towards lessons. In this study we investigated students’
attitudes towards technology use in class and whether the use of technology improved their
academic achievement. A quasiexperimental research design was used and we assigned
3 groups as experimental groups (n = 41) and 2 as control groups (n = 41). Mathematics
was selected as the subject to be studied. All groups completed a pretest and a posttest. For
the experimental groups, lessons were designed using several technological tools, whereas
lessons for control groups were taught using traditional teaching methods. At the end of the
study, the experimental groups completed a scale to investigate the preferences and attitudes
of the students in regard to technology-based instruction. One-way ANCOVA was used to
evaluate the differences in posttest results, which revealed that the mathematics posttest
results of the students who were instructed using technology were significantly higher than
the posttest results of the groups who were instructed without technology. Results showed
that students had a positive attitude towards technology use. The implications for curriculum
designers and teachers are discussed.

- 2. FIRST LOOK Not too long ago, teachers were still teaching students with chalk in hand, as they filled up the miles and miles of blackboard. As technology has continued to grow and thrive in this modern world – it has also slowly made its way into schools and classrooms. What started out as morning announcements over the P.A. system, the technologies found in schools have quickly matched the outside world – such as “I have an App that will help solve that math equation” In a world dominated by the newest, coolest technology – integration of technology into schools is slowly making its effectiveness felt
- 3. TEACHERS VIEW “Studies conducted abroad demonstrate that technology use at schools has not yet gained its expected potential to develop students’ knowledge and skills “ (Eristi p. 32). Teachers see what new technologies, can offer to students, in the classroom. However most teachers are not ready to integrate the use of these technologies, because of the lack of support and structure that is needed for it to be a success. A structural base of support and knowledge is needed for these new technologies to flourish.
- 4. LOOKING FORWARD Teachers still feel as though “most of their students were better than them in using technological tools or environments” (Eritis p. 39). In order for technology to be effective in the classroom, teachers must have a firm grasp on how it works – as well as how it can help their students Create a support system, teach the teachers how to use their technology, and let the learning environment bloom with the effective use of technology
