VITTA abstract for 2012 conference – Creative learning environments promote creative thinking & inspiring learning
All students have knowledge, that their experiences have given them, and valuing this knowledge can be a difficult task within a school curriculum. Venturing beyond the walls of the classroom, to combine online social media, Web 2.0 and face-to-face teaching, can help to support students’ strengths and abilities while providing them with opportunities to create, publish and be valued resources for their peers. This PhD classroom action research study created dynamic online environments where students were faced with a wide range of tools which encouraged them to think, create and share their knowledge. Multimodal methods of learning were at their fingertips and new literacies became part of the day-to-day learning cycle.
Improving Students’ Achievement of Social Science By Using Jigsaw Cooperative...iosrjce
This study was aimed at determining the students’ achievement of Social Science at the Fifth Grade
of State Primary School Bukittinggi, West Sumatera. This study was based on the problem that the students did
not reach the standard minimum criteria score which was determined 70. The classroom action research was
used in this study by using Jigsaw Cooperative Learning Model. The finding showed that there was an increase
on the teachers’ teaching skills and students’ achievement. The average score of teachers’ teaching skills in the
first cycle was 2.6, the second cycle was 2.8 and the third cycle was 3.4 with a very good category. The
students’ score was increased steadily from 67.9% (first cycle), to 75% (cycle II) and the final 92.5% (cycle III).
This suggests that the use of Jigsaw Cooperative Learning Model improved students’ achievement of Social
Science
Pedagogical design for honors study abroad and beyond Beata Jones
We present a framework for design of learning activities within a context of an honors study abroad program. Translating into practice the fundamental principles of honors learning, such as challenge, learner autonomy, and being part of a community of learners, incorporating structured PRISM pedagogy (Williams, 2014), Fink’s (2003) guidelines for course design for significant learning experiences, and rigorous outcome assessment (AAC&U, 2010), the presenters developed a detailed curriculum design process that can be translated to any discipline and any honors classroom. A showcase of a student ePortfolio capturing the study abroad learning and competence development accompanies the presentation.

discover things on their own
● Move to the side! guide your student by not giving
them the answers
● Shift from the passive transfer of facts and
routines to the active application of ideas to problems
● Seek to combine past and present instructional
practices for each individual student creating
