The Egypt GNU/Linux Users Group (EGLUG) is an active non-profit organization that advocates for free and open source software in Egypt. EGLUG started in 2004 by organizing the country's first installfest that attracted over 2,000 attendees with very little funding. While EGLUG's activities decreased temporarily in 2008 when many active members became busy, the group has since resumed activities in Cairo and expanded to Alexandria by partnering with universities and government institutions to increase FOSS adoption among students and academics. EGLUG aims to continue growing the skilled human resources around FOSS in Egypt through community events, online resources, and education programs.

This paper accounts for a small range of open online courses that helped to inform the early development of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). It laments the loss of meaning in the word open and its historic alignment to free and open source principles. It calls for more academic work to better represent the histories and range of critical perspectives on open online courses, and outlines how Wikipedia can be used as a central organising platform for such work.

Ubiquitous learning, through its association to the phrase ‘ubiquitous computing’, is often taken to mean learning mediated through portable computing devices that are coupled with digital media and data. This paper argues for a consideration that is less determined by technology, positioning instead that it be used to describe a broad and deliberate approach to learning generally, with or without the aid of computing devices or digital media.
Based on a feed-back structure of ethics, principles, methods and outcomes used by David Holgrem to popularise Permaculture Design, an ethical framework for ubiquitous learning is put forward to guide considerations. It draws on the theories, critiques and proposals of Ivan Illich, Neil Postman, Jean Lave and Etienne Wenger, Christopher Alexander, Richard Stallman and others to form three primary ethics: That learning happens everywhere; that it be relevant and; that it is shared. These ethics are substantiated through a number of principles that guide methods and hold outcomes accountable. And finally, to illustrate methods through this framework a range of projects and initiatives are presented. Knowledge Weaving for Social Innovation: Laying the First Strand
Society consists of a web of interconnected communities. A large body of research and practice exists on how to make communities work. Still, the intersection and interaction of multiple communities - the development and use of their inter-communal commons - is ill-understood. Social innovation is the process in which relevant stakeholders jointly develop solutions to wicked problems that none of them can solve on their own. As such, it is a prime example of the need for multiple stakeholder communities collaborating. We propose a process for building a networked community-commons called knowledge weaving. This is a reflective sensemaking effort in which existing communal knowledge sharing practices, initiatives, and resources are tied together into coherent commons-based knowledge fabrics that support intercommunal collaboration, such as for social innovation. We illustrate the approach with the case of the European Social Innovation Week 2015 pre-events.

This talk was given at a multiplier event organised by the University of Wolverhampton as part of the MOONLITE project (refugees, languages and moocs). In this presentation I share the experiences and approaches used to design one of the first MOOCs allround, and the first MOOC focused on mobile learning. The presentation looks at pedagogy, technology, community and impact of the course.

This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is

What are neighbouring sectors? •What about other countries? Compare to at least one other country? Are their similar organisations, is there a similar sector? •Find an article relating to this topic (trends in the sector) and add it to the Zotero group CommunityServiceEngineering in the right folder 2. Organisations.
