PLANS FOR TODAY – Oct xxx
Let’s revise on the
use of different verb
tenses!
Let’s go deep down
into the procedure
of preparing a
writing task!
VERB TENSES
THE PROCESS
OF WRITING
Author: Prof. Silvina Ocampo
• A list of verb forms we have to study (?)
• A boring topic in English (?)
• Another idea?
What is ‘GRAMMAR’?
• An aspect in a language that can help us express
a large number of meanings with different tools.
• VERB TENSES are one of those very important
tools in a language to express meanings either
when we write or speak!
• We need to learn about the form of verbs related to the
tenses, ie. the affirmative, negative and interrogative
forms.
• We need to learn about auxiliaries for each verb tense, eg.
auxiliary DID for the PAST SIMPLE.
What is essential about VERB TENSES?
• Basically, it’s essential that you learn HOW TO USE VERB
TENSES according to DIFFERENT CONTEXTS / SITUATIONS
• These elements are necessary but not fundamental
What verb tenses are we going to revise on?

Last Monday Sarah had a hard day. First, she washed
all her clothes and baked the cakes for Chris’ birthday
party. Then, she worked on her project for some hours
until 10 when she went shopping. After that, she paid
the bills. Once home, Sarah made some appointments
with Mr Ferguson for next month. She prepared lunch
and picked up Chris from school. Then, she set up the
room for the party and blew the ballons with Chris. At 4
pm, she welcomed the party guests and celebrated
Chris’s birthday. At 7pm, she tidied the room and
started preparing dinner. Then, she went for a walk
and finally, she went to sleep.
