THE PROCESS FOR COMPLETING THIS
PROJECT
        Created by Samantha Wheat and Margaret Eeubanks
Step 1
   Download and open the Word file titled "Will I Stay In
    Japan Webquest Log ” located at the bottom of the
    Processes page.
       You will use this log to record your answers and findings as
        you complete your research.
   From the resources page download the PowerPoint
    Skills Pre-test. Follow this to test determine what you
    know about using Microsoft PowerPoint.
   From the resources page download and view the
    PowerPoint Skills Video tutorials. Each skill in the pre-
    test is modeled in the videos. Use these to teach
    yourself how to do different things in PowerPoint.
Step 2
   Click on the Resources link. Find and click on
    the link titled “Relative Location of Map –
    Japan”.
     Explain   the relative and absolute location of
     Japan.
       Relative Location- What other land masses is Japan
        located next to? Which ocean(s)?
       Absolute Location- What are the coordinates?

     Record    your answers on your Webquest Log.
Step 3
   Click on the Resources link. Open the file
    "Map of Japan" and use the directions on the
    log to label the physical features.
   Label the:
     Mountainous  Regions
     Valley Regions

     Costal Regions

   Create one slide in your Powerpoint to present
    your completed map.
Step 4
   Click on the Resources link. Click on the link
    titled "Japan Population Density.”
     Color in the physical map with the population
      density you see on the link.
       Population   Density- the number of people per unit
       area.
     Answer  the questions about population density on
      your log.
   Create one slide in your Powerpoint to present
    your completed map.
Step 5
   Click on the Resources link. Find and click on
    the link for "Population Pyramids."
     Look  at the population pyramids for Japan and
      the US.
     Answer the questions about the population of
      Japan.
     Make sure to write your three "Why" questions
      related to the Japanese population pyramid.
     Don't forget to compare and contrast the
      population pyramids of Japan and the U.S.
   Create one slide in your powerpoint to present
    your completed pyramid.
Step 6
   Click on the Resources link. Click the link
    “Contemporary Japan: Culture & Society”.
     Choose  two cultural videos presented in this
      resource.
          The Japanese Family – The Modern Japanese
       Ex.
       Family video, and Education and Work– Role of the
       Mother.
     Summarize   each video in the space provided in
      the log document. Create a citation for each video
      in your Works Cited slide.
     Create 1-2 slides summarizing what you learned
      about Japanese culture. Make sure to label each

  You  will notbe able to pick the same videos as
   other students. You must chose your videos and
   report which ones to the teacher. First come, first
   pick.
  You must use at least one other source to expand
   on the aspect of Japanese culture you are
   presenting. For example the Encyclopedia
   Britannica Student Edition available through the
   library.
Step 7
   Click on the Resources link. Click the link titled
    ”Social and Cultural History of Japan Through
    Music Education”.
   Chose one song. Record the title, composer, poet,
    and year.
    Listen to the music and read the translation.
   Create 1 slide with the song information.
   Create 1-2 slides responding to the music. Explain
    how the music feels and what you like and don't
    like about it.
   Make sure to record your answer in the correct

   Click on the Resources link. Click on the link
    titled “Tsunamis 101.” Watch the video.
   Answer the questions about tsunamis in your
    log.
   Create 1-2 slides giving your informed
    explanation on how tsunamis occur. Be as
    brief as possible with your explanation.
Step 9
   Find information on the March 11, 2011
    earthquake and tsunami that occurred in
    Japan. Use the resources page for possible
    online resources.
   You must use at least three different reliable
    resources.
   Create 2-3 slides giving basic information on
    the tsunami.
Step 10
   Present 1-2 news videos that show a first-hand
    experience of what the tsunami looked like.
   Present 1-2 news videos that show the
    consequences and damages of the resulting
    tsunami.
   Present 1-2 news videos on what Japan is like
    now.
   Create one slide for each video that you
    choose to present in your Powerpoint
    presentation.
   IF YOU NEED HELP EMBEDDING VIDEO IN
    YOUR POWERPOINT, ASK YOUR
Step 11
   You must include a reflective observation
    answering whether or not you would continue
    to live in a country that has experienced such
    a devastating natural occurrence.
   This slide is the only slide that should have an
    opinioned statement, and should be the slide
    in which you will use words such as “I feel”, “I
    believe”, etc.
Step 12
   Create Works Cited slides at the end of your
    powerpoint presentation.
   Use MLA format.
   Use the guides linked on the class and library
    websites for help.
   You may use citationmachine.net or easybib.com
    for creating your citations.
   Go to the library for help.
   YOU MUST CITE EVERY SOURCE YOU USE,
    INCLUDING PICTURES FROM THE INTERNET
    OR MICROSOFT CLIPART.

Step 11  You must include a reflective observation answering whether or not you would continue to live in a country that has experienced such a devastating natural occurrence.  This slide is the only slide that should have an opinioned statement, and should be the slide in which you will use words such as “I feel”, “I believe”, etc.

Step 12  Create Works Cited slides at the end of your powerpoint presentation.  Use MLA format.  Use the guides linked on the class and library websites for help.  You may use citationmachine.net or easybib.com for creating your citations.  Go to the library for help.  YOU MUST CITE EVERY SOURCE YOU USE, INCLUDING PICTURES FROM THE INTERNET OR MICROSOFT CLIPART.
