What are
my States
Symbols?
Introduction
When we take road trips with our families or simply just take a drive around, we notice the different license
plates of each states. Some are plain. Some are colorful. And some have thing significant to their state, like
their flag or bird. If we were to go into the license plate business, how would we create our plate?
Task
Today you will be creating a license plate representative of your assigned states. When you create your plate,
you will place 3-4 emblems of that state such as flower, animal, flag, tree, bird, or even include a picture to
show its shape. Make sure that if someone drives by you, they know you are proud of what state you have.
Process
 Step 1: Swindell Travel Agency will assign you your state.
 Step 2: You will open up a blank PowerPoint presentation and delete the boxes with text.
 Step 3: You will visit these websites to find information about your assigned state

 Step 4: Once you have gathered your information, create a license plate on PowerPoint with included
features. Make sure you use color and have fun.
 Step 5: When you think your PowerPoint is finished, ask me to come over to adjust the size to print
our poster size version. If there need to be changes in size of items on PowerPoint, I will help you
adjust to size.
 Step 6: Send to Printer for me to take care of .

Conclusion
Great job students! As new kids drive into our classroom, they will be able to see what defines each states
and how proud you are to say you have traveled there. Vroom, Vroom! Uh oh! Our car is here to take us our
next two states! Let’s get going!

This Webquest was created to help students learn the 50 states and learn what emblems go with what
states. This lesson will take a week and we will work 45 minutes to an hour on this daily. Make sure if you
do this assignment that your school has allowed you to use the amount of ink needed. Also, make sure you
scale the size of your kids posters, so no mishaps occurs with the printer.
