The Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES) is responsible for developing curriculum, awarding credentials, regulating non-government schools, and managing the Higher School Certificate (HSC) exams in New South Wales. Each year over 73,000 students sit the HSC exams across 117 different papers, submitting over 2 million exam booklets. BOSTES employs over 7,000 exam supervisors and 6,000 markers to administer the exams, with another 1,700 online markers reviewing over 5 million scanned exam pages at a rate of 1,500 pages per minute.
