Just like at the office…

Have you seen Nike's cool new site yet?
Did you see that crazy lady at the airport?
Check this out. It's called Fail Blog…

Whoever is first to forward a
cool new link, wins quot;pointsquot;.
In this corner…
•  Let's see who's got the hottest links in Hong Kong!

•  Two CDs from digital agencies compete each month.

•  Contestant A shows a link, then Contestant B shows
a link, then we vote on which is cooler.

•  We play 5 rounds, each with its own category.
You show me yours...

•    Round 1 – Fresh
•    Round 2 – Freakin' Cool
•    Round 3 – Funktional
•    Round 4 – Funny
•    Round 5 – Free for All

Details coming up on slides 8 – 12.
And the winner is…
•  Each round, links are rated by:
  –  Celebrity Judge
      •  Someone new from the crowd each month. Rants like an
quot;American Idolquot; judge and then rates 1 to 10.

  –  Audience
      •  The crowd cheers and applause meter scores the
         response 1 to 10.

  –  Max 20 pts per round x 5 rounds.
     Perfect score = 100.
For example…
•    Round 1 – Fresh
      1. Contestant A goes first, and shows http://vimeo.com/4312616

      2. Then Contestant B goes, and shows http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9UlaKOIdZg

      3. Celebrity Judge says, quot;A's is really cool. It's innovative and something I've never seen
          before. I give it an 8.quot;

      4. Crowd cheers and gives A a score of 7.

      5. Celebrity Judge says, quot;B's is funny, but I've already seen it. 6.quot;

      6. Crowd cheers and gives B a score of 7.

      7. End of Round 1: A=15 pts / B=13 pts

      8. Move on to Round 2. Contestant B will go first.
A link could be anything…
•  Sites, ads, apps, games, tools, videos, music, blog post, photos,
   cartoons, technologies, tweets, whatever…

•  But it's best if it relates to at least one of these:
    –  advertising
    –  design
    –  the Internet / digital life / general online culture and coolness
Round 1 - Fresh
Show us something we haven't seen yet. This is the link that everyone will be talking
about next week. Show it to us now!

• Extreme Sheep LED Art
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2FX9rviEhw

• Titanic banner ad
http://creativezone.eyeblaster.com/#ItemName=Titanic

• Disrespectoids games from Capri Sun
http://www.kraftbrands.com/caprisun/disrespectoids/index.aspx

• You Should Have Seen This
http://www.youshouldhaveseenthis.com/

• Better Shop Online
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ge6teiQdeQ
Round 2 - Freakin' Cool
Show us something cool. But it can’t just be normal cool... it’s gotta be freakin' cool.

•  ThruYou: Kutiman mixes YouTube
http://thru-you.com/

•  Spike Jonze: Fully Flared Intro
http://www.adgabber.com/video/fully-flared

•  Nike realcity
http://www.nike.jp/nike_id/blazer/

•  Philips Carousel
http://www.cinema.philips.com/?ls=gb_en

•  Gigpan – Obama's Inauguration
http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=15374
Round 3 - Funktional
Show us something useful. It doesn't have to be design-related, but it definitely can't
be boring. Give us something with a little funk to it.

• What the Font
http://new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/iPhone/

• Multicolr Search Lab Flickr Set
http://labs.ideeinc.com/multicolr/#colors=ffffff,000000

• Know Your Meme
http://knowyourmeme.com/

• Websites of the Fortune 100
http://designm.ag/inspiration/websites-fortune-100/

• Leo Burnett - See the Opportunity
http://www.see-the-opportunity.com/
Round 4 - Funny
Self explanatory. But ideally, show us a little more than just a typical YouTube video.

•  Soy Joy Office
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8V-VDSyZCnc

•  Career Evolution - Art Director
http://www.flickr.com/photos/workforfood/3422681031/

•  Jones BBQ and Foot Massage
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPkMUU9tUqk

•  Audi billboard fail
http://failblog.org/2009/05/01/audi-billboard-fail/

•  Jet Blue – Welcome Bigwigs
http://www.welcomebigwigs.com/
Round 5 – Free for All
•    An instant challenge based on a timely topic for that month.

•    We throw out a topic on-the-spot and contestants have 3 minutes to throw up a link.

     For example…
March (In Celebration of Rugby Seven's)
      –    Show us a freakin' cool site related to James Bond 007.
      –    Show us a funny YouTube video with a quot;7quot; in the URL.

     April
      –      Show us a funny online hoax you've seen for April Fool's Day.

     May
      –    Show us a fresh gift you can buy online for Mother's Day.
Get ready…
•    Before the show, prepare your best links for each Round.

•    Better have backups, in case the other contestant goes first
and happens to show the same link that you had planned.

•    You'll know the general topic for the Round 5 Free for All, but
not the specific format/challenge. So bring your bookmarks,
and your friends, and be ready for anything!
What's in it for you…
•         Fame!

•         Glory!

•         Valuable prizes from Adobe!

     –       Winner: Adobe Creative Suite 4 Premium
(your choice of Design, Web, or Production version)

     –       Runner-up: Photoshop Lightroom 2
What's the secret…
•    Keep it short and snappy. The audience likes links that are
quick and instant-to-understand. 1-2 minutes, max.

•    Focus on entertainment value. The audience will be a mix of
quot;creative typesquot; and quot;othersquot;. So pick links that everyone will
unquestionably think are funny, cool, etc.
There's only 1 Rule…
1.    Don't just show YouTube videos all day.

•     Across all 5 rounds, limit = 2 YouTube videos.

•     Our top priority is to entertain, but we also want to inspire,
amaze, intrigue. Bring a mix of sites, ads, apps, tools, etc…
THANK YOU
   and
GOOD LUCK!

So bring your bookmarks, and your friends, and be ready for anything!

The audience will be a mix of quot;creative typesquot; and quot;othersquot;. So pick links that everyone will unquestionably think are funny, cool, etc.
  • 16. There's only 1 Rule… 1.  Don't just show YouTube videos all day. •  Across all 5 rounds, limit = 2 YouTube videos. •  Our top priority is to entertain, but we also want to inspire, amaze, intrigue. Bring a mix of sites, ads, apps, tools, etc…
