Red-green color blindness

Difficulty “scanning” color coded notifications like a dot type badge

Surface dyslexic

Have difficulties with some fonts, more problems with “walls of text”

Limited hand dexterity & reduced fingertip
sensitivity

Sliders, checkmarks, fingertip scanners can be frustrating

accessibility lawsuits nearly tripled to
more than 2,250. In 2019 number went up
11,053 and in 2021 the number was 10,982.

In 2020 the total number of ADA Title III

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
States that if a business is a “public place of accommodation,” then
overall accessibility — digital or otherwise — is expected. As the web and
smart devices become integrated as crucial parts of our society, it is
essential to make them accessible. ADA was established back in 1990.
Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act requires the federal government to
take accessibility into account when procuring websites, telephones,
copiers, computers, hardware, and software.
Mandotory policy in Denmark
Scope: Public sector

Web only: yes
Agreement on the use of open standards for

software in the public sector
What can
we do?
Don’t rely
on Overlays
Component-based user interfaces using
ReactJS, Angular, or Vue may change the
state of all or some of the underlying
pages independently of the overlay,
rendering it unable to fix those
JavaScript-driven changes to content.

Overlays do not repair content in Flash,
Java, Silverlight, PDF, HTML5 Canvas, SVG,
or media files.

WCAG AAA
is great,
but AA is
realisitc
A (lowest) — sets a minimum level of accessibility
and does not achieve broad accessibility for many
situations.

AA (mid range) — suggested conformance level
for a Web-based information.

AAA (highest) — even though the highest in the
ranking system, WCAG does not recommend that
Level AAA conformance be required as a general
policy for entire sites because it is not possible to
satisfy all Level AAA success criteria for some
content.
