    Social Media is now becoming
    the premier landscape for job
    searching and hiring-- and if
    used right, it could lead not
    only to a job one desires but
    also allow one to advance in
    their business career.

So what does this have to do with us?

- One in six employees use social media to find their current
   job, up from one in nine in 2010

- Nearly 90 percent of job seekers have a social media profile

- 54 percent of all job seekers use Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn to
   find jobs
So what does this have to do with us?

- 50 percent of job seekers have used Facebook, 26 percent used
   LinkedIn and 25 percent used Twitter to look for a job in the past 12
   months

- 18.4 million Americans found their current jobs through
   Facebook, along with 10.2 million through LinkedIn and 8 million
   through Twitter

used in job postings by appealing
employers

  for potential jobs and align you with your
  interested industry

   correct and protected

  public
- More of a professional networking site
  - Once you are registered and signed in you must
    complete a certain percentage of your profile

      Software to be able to search for keywords of

Seek your Connections!
- Search for co-workers, past employers, community
   members, professional friends, etc…and ask them to
   “connect”

- Search for businesses…past employers, current employer,
   appealing employers in your industry, employers that you
   have personal connections with, etc

- It’s not “taboo” to have too many connections on LinkedIn

- Search for Hiring Managers of targeted employers
Join Groups and Discussions!
- Search and ask to join groups that you have interest in

   - Alumni, Companies, Professional Affiliations, Industries…
   - Take part in the open discussions…get your
     name, experiences, and ideas out!
Search for potential employers
   - Find hiring managers or HR personnel to connect with

   - Research the company

   - Look for job postings
The more complex of the 3…
- Once you register you will want to set up your
  username with your real name
- Your username will appear on all “tweets” as
  “@RealName”
- If you have a blog or personal website feel
  free to add it
- “Tweets” are a 140 character or less message
  that you post

- Keep your Tweets public for potential
  followers
What is a Hashtag?
- Type the Hashtag (#) and Hashtag name and
  your tweet will be posted on the Hashtagged
  wall as well
- Go to www.tagdef.com to search for relevant
  topics of interest
- Start a TwitChat using a hashtag
- “Mentions” are a way to tag someone…they get
notification when you mention them
    - Tell them you like their posts, etc.
- Karma strategy- mention other twitter users by adding
@theirname in your tweet…in return-- hope they will do
the same for you!!

   interest in
- Search for users in the industry
- Follow accounts that post job openings
- Follow recruiters
- Conferences and events in your industry

  • 6. Statistics… … over 73% of active online users have read a blog … 45% have started their own blog … 57% have joined a social network … 83% have watched video clips
  • 7. So what does this have to do with us? Social Media is now becoming the premier landscape for job searching and hiring-- and if used right, it could lead not only to a job one desires but also allow one to advance in their business career. - Pedram Tabibi
  • 8. So what does this have to do with us? - One in six employees use social media to find their current job, up from one in nine in 2010 - Nearly 90 percent of job seekers have a social media profile - 54 percent of all job seekers use Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn to find jobs

So what does this have to do with us? - 50 percent of job seekers have used Facebook, 26 percent used LinkedIn and 25 percent used Twitter to look for a job in the past 12 months - 18.4 million Americans found their current jobs through Facebook, along with 10.2 million through LinkedIn and 8 million through Twitter
  • 10. How Do We Get Started? - Search online job markets for keywords used in job postings by appealing employers - Keywords help to create a better search for potential jobs and align you with your interested industry
  • 11. Now That We Have Our Keywords, Let’s Talk Sites… Quiz- Why are Social Media sites/logos blue?
  • 12. - More of a social site - Friends, Family, Childhood Friends, Co- workers… - With the personal connection already established, Facebook leads to higher percentage of job leads
  • 13. - Carefully tell your network you’re currently seeking work - Use applications (Indeed, LinkedIn, etc) to open up your network of contacts - Use the new “Timeline” layout to ensure all information is correct and protected - Be cognizant of what is posted and open to the public
  • 14. - More of a professional networking site - Once you are registered and signed in you must complete a certain percentage of your profile - Your LinkedIn profile should not be your resume as it is not about your past: Your LinkedIn profile should be about your branding for your future
  • 15. - One new addition to LinkedIn are the “Skills” that you can add to your profile - This is where your keywords come in to play - Employers pay for LinkedIn’s Hiring Solutions Software to be able to search for keywords of potential new hires - 40% of LinkedIn’s revenue comes from this software
  • 16. Seek your Connections! - Search for co-workers, past employers, community members, professional friends, etc…and ask them to “connect” - Search for businesses…past employers, current employer, appealing employers in your industry, employers that you have personal connections with, etc - It’s not “taboo” to have too many connections on LinkedIn - Search for Hiring Managers of targeted employers
  • 17. Join Groups and Discussions! - Search and ask to join groups that you have interest in - Alumni, Companies, Professional Affiliations, Industries… - Take part in the open discussions…get your name, experiences, and ideas out!
  • 18. Search for potential employers - Find hiring managers or HR personnel to connect with - Research the company - Look for job postings
  • 19. The more complex of the 3… - Once you register you will want to set up your username with your real name - Your username will appear on all “tweets” as “@RealName” - If you have a blog or personal website feel free to add it
  • 20. - “Tweets” are a 140 character or less message that you post - Keep your Tweets public for potential followers
  • 21. What is a Hashtag? - Type the Hashtag (#) and Hashtag name and your tweet will be posted on the Hashtagged wall as well - Go to www.tagdef.com to search for relevant topics of interest - Start a TwitChat using a hashtag
  • 22. - “Mentions” are a way to tag someone…they get notification when you mention them - Tell them you like their posts, etc. - Karma strategy- mention other twitter users by adding @theirname in your tweet…in return-- hope they will do the same for you!!
  • 23. Who to Follow?? - Search and follow companies you have interest in - Search for users in the industry - Follow accounts that post job openings - Follow recruiters - Conferences and events in your industry - DO NOT BE AFRAID TO MAKE CONTACT AND ASK FOR GUIDANCE
