There is no doubt that Openstack represents one of the massive industry alignment towards the Open source cloud, Some even touting it to be the linux of cloud computing. But is it “THE” perfect solution ?
Vanilla Openstack is a “Myth”
The choice of Openstack as part of your cloud strategy purely depends on the kind of workload and the add-on features.
Openstack can be a serious contender especially for fresh deployments and applications that are being architected for cloud. But as the environment gets diverse(legacy integrations) Openstack can be tricky to integrate and maintain
One might require a vendor based Cloud management platform especially when the cloud strategy involves public clouds(AWS, Azure, GCE) and migration of application services across
No doubt it is fully open source, but it comes with learning curve, release cycles, Vendor specific driver integrations etc.
Interesting developments with respect to containers, docker, Kubernetes, Mesosphere etc will challenge Openstack
Openstack will no doubt will grow mature over next couple of years, until then, the hunt for the CMP continues...

Architecting Multi-Cloud Applications - Myth or Reality?aravindajju
We reached a phase in cloud computing, where it is evident that multi-cloud is a reality. Depending on a single cloud is risky and probably doesn't work for most workloads. That said, there are myriad of challenges in architecting applications to run across clouds. So is architecting applications for multi-cloud a myth still? or is it a reality? This talk explores the challenges in multi-cloud application architectures and possible approaches & technology choices.

Digital transformation based on cloud-first strategy is a marathon. Any transformation journey which is disruptive and requires changing the core foundation of the organization can be very challenging. It is bound to fail unless the journey is planned with specific goals in mind, right roles and resources allocated to it, ‘as-is’ to ‘to-be state’ is mapped and implementation engine is fine-tuned.
Based on the experience of implementing numerous transformation projects for our global clients, RapidValue has formulated a BRAVE framework for cloud-first digital transformation.

Cloud platforms are increasingly being used for hosting a broad diversity of services from traditional e-commerce applications to interactive web-based IDEs. However, we observe that the proliferation of offers by cloud providers raises several challenges. Developers will not only have to deploy applications for a speci?c cloud, but will also have to consider migrating services from one cloud to another, and to manage distributed applications spanning multiple clouds. In this paper, we present our federated multi-cloud PaaS infrastructure for addressing these challenges. This infrastructure is based on three foundations: i) an open ser- vice model used to design and implement both our multi- cloud PaaS and the SaaS applications running on top of it, ii) a con?gurable architecture of the federated PaaS, and iii) some infrastructure services for managing both our multi- cloud PaaS and the SaaS applications. We then show how this multi-cloud PaaS can be deployed on top of thirteen ex- isting IaaS/PaaS. We ?nally report on three distributed SaaS applications developed with and deployed on our federated multi-cloud PaaS infrastructure.

Multi-cloud is not a trend, it’s a reality. Applications are deployed anywhere across on-premises data centers and public clouds. Application services including load balancing, web application firewall (WAF) and analytics need to be infrastructure agnostic, portable to containers and fully automatable. Avi Networks, now part of VMware, offers the only software-defined platform that truly delivers multi-cloud.
In this webinar, we will describe how to separate fact from fiction with vendor claims:
- Central control: a single orchestrator with consistent policies vs. a centralized dashboard with pretty UI
- Elastic scale: workload bursting across clouds vs. static capacity overprovisioned at low utilization
- Multi-cloud: enterprise load balancing with GSLB vs. siloed products for heterogeneous environments

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

PvDC Cloud Manage breaks down the barriers between public cloud
service providers and gives customers the ability to mesh products from
multiple providers under one umbrella.
14. PvDC Cloud Manage
THE ISSUE…
The current ecosystem of Public Cloud providers are siloed entities when it comes to delivering
technology services. They don’t play well together and create “lock-in” with proprietary systems
and services. Often times you will find yourself stuck on a platform regardless of the fit for your
business and outbound migrations are nearly impossible and very costly. If you wanted to
connect to multiple Public Clouds you would also need the connectivity and the networking to
make it happen.
WHAT PVDC CLOUD MANAGE SOLVES…
By first solving the issues of connectivity and data transformation, PvDC Cloud Manage provides
customers with the tools that merge the best of breed services among multiple providers.
PvDC Cloud Manage breaks down the barriers between public cloud service providers

16. PvDC Cloud Manage Benefits
Key Benefits:
• Flexibility to take advantage of opportunity pricing in the public cloud
market
• Best of Breed services among all providers under one umbrella
• Avoid “lock-in” due to proprietary platforms
• Avoid “cloud sprawl” and increase visibility
• Utilize Cloud Valet – a single-purpose SaaS tool within the PvDC
Management Portal that enables users to automatically schedule
on/off times for their idle virtual servers and reduce overall cloud
costs.
17. PvDC Cloud Valet
Cloud Valet is a single-purpose SaaS tool within the PvDC Management Portal
that is included for FREE to all PvDC customers and enables users to
automatically schedule on/off times for their idle virtual servers. Reduce cloud
computing costs by paying only for the resources you’re actually using. Cloud
ValetTM also includes the ability to “Stall” or temporarily suspend the action of a
parking schedule to keep a running instance running or a stopped instance
stopped longer.
By proactively parking idle cloud services, Cloud Valet can verifiably slash your
cloud computing costs by 20% or more. For example, an organization spends
$5,000 by running their data 730 hours/month. Let’s assume 192 hours of the
month (which is about 26%) are dedicated to “weekend” time where resources
are not used (Saturday and Sunday). If a schedule was created to “power off”
for the weekends, this would save 26%, or $1,315/month. This equates to
$15,700/year in savings just by turning off on the weekends.
18. PvDC Cloud Valet Features
Stop Paying for Idle Cloud Services
With just a few clicks, customers can unlock savings by optimizing the use of
resources in the cloud.

•Temporarily suspend the action of a parking schedule and set resume
dates/times
•Schedule virtual servers on a common schedule – even across data centers
•Set precedence
•Set delay – For example: allowing plenty of time to come online before other
servers

19. PvDC Symmetry DevOps
Symmetry DevOps ™ is specifically designed to complement and
enhance existing SDLC (Software/System Development Lifecycle)
practices where they exist, and provide a robust and scalable platform
where nothing exists currently.
Symmetry DevOps ™ is deployed in hybrid cloud or pure cloud models.
Each customer is provided multiple, custom defined, isolated
environments with their full data set in each. By utilizing fenced
networks and isolating each development phase, consistent naming
schemes with identical IPs can be used for servers across all
development, testing, QA, etc. phases.
20. PvDC Symmetry DevOps
The Benefits of using Symmetry DevOps ™ include:
• Consistent build process resulting in a
simplified approach and the reduced possibility
for human error to take place
• Better control over environments (Operating
Systems, Patch levels between development
Phases, Compute, Networking)
• Sets the customers up to achieve Automation for
rapid deployment and delta change between
each deployment phase
• Reduced time for build deployment for all
environments
• Increased code reliability in all environments due
to reduction of “coding for exceptions”
