Esse modelo não biomédico, diferente da medicina dominante no ocidente, que tem resultados e eficácia já comprovados, apesar de tímidos estudos e pesquisas ainda encontra alguns e importantes desafios a serem superados. A Acupuntura no Brasil apresenta uma crescente considerável e mostra-se como ferramenta fundamental para a diminuição de custos na saúde e garantia dos direitos dos usuários do Sistema Único de Saúde, que já demonstram satisfação no uso dessa prática. Dentre outros obstáculos, as Práticas Integrativas e Complementares no SUS encontram dificuldades quanto à qualificação dos profissionais de saúde, implementação do monitoramento e avaliação, aceitação da diversidade e ampliação das pesquisas.
