LOCATION: Tianjin, China
SITE AREA: 2 sq. km
Through the use of recursive geometry to inform the circulation,
program and form, this multi-functional megablock serves all the
necessary functions in a community. Commercial, educational and
residential facilities were combined to create a holistic and diverse
environment housing several activities for different demographics.

REQUIREMENTS:
To create an object for sitting in the exhibition space of the new
architecture building at Tsinghua University. The seat had to fit within
a 90mm cube and act as a sculptural piece in the exhibition space.
Each student was given four sheets of birch plywood to make the
bench. A 3D model was to be generated to have the ply pieces cut
with a CNC machine and assembled by hand to make a solid form.

12. TRIDENT MAIN BAR
Atelier Vidal Limited 2012
LOCATION: Portland, Jamaica
The Trident Main Bar was the first project I was assigned at
Atelier-Vidal Limited. As a crucial place in the Central Facili-
ty, the space had to leave an impression on the patrons.
The concept was based on a continuum of time and the
elements surrounding the area metaphorically and physi-
cally. The slats on the front face of the bar was an element
the architect wanted to incorporate for the finish as well as
a ‘cloud’. I then decided to have these elements continue
along the wall and then onto the ceiling to make it feel
more intimate and with the Prouve Light fixtures added, get
that cloud effect.

14. BARBADOS MARITIME MUSEUM

LOCATION: Bridgetown, Barbados
The Barbados National Naval and Maritime Museum is
intended to integrate the constant movement on land and
sea in this area, with knowledge and education provided
by the museum. Educational and civic institutions surround
the site to the North and East, with an active Bus Terminus
to the South and the hub of the city to the West. As a
result, many pass through the site, and to facilitate this
nucleus of pedestrian activity, a courtyard and cafe were
added to act as a punctuation in the path and a meeting
place for the public. To create a stronger connection to the
water a ‘bridge’ was created along the Western boundary,
this would not only act as a connector to the North and
South streets but to the market across the river. This would
promote more commerce to the area, as well as a visual
connection to the public spaces increasing awareness and
interest.

LOCATION: Gonghua City, Beijing, China
SITE AREA: 4 sq. km
Bounded on three sides by the Huanghe River is the historical Gong-
hua City. The urban design phase of this project aims to address the
issue of flooding on the site while highlighting the historical relics of
the Ming Dynasty found on the site. The utilisation of water became
a critical construct to the planning and development of the city and its
buildings’ and is a pervading concept

LOCATION: Bajia Village, Haidian, Beijing
SITE AREA: 12,600 sq. m
To design an educational facility for migrant children in Bei-
jing that solves the civil society and government dilemmas
associated with overpopulation. Making the project ‘mobile’
would alleviate the issues of demolition thatexisting schools
face, while allowing for the continuation of students’ educa-
tion. The dimensions selected were based on the container
for ease of transport, while allowing for the transport of two
additional classrooms within a container
