QVC Case Study Analysis
Abstract
The Quality Value Convenience Network (QVC) is one of the most dominating and leading
television based retailers today. Potential customers tune in worldwide to QVC s shopping
channel every day to see what new and exciting products are on display for sale. Countries such as
Germany, Japan, Italy, United Kingdom, and Italy support QVC internationally. In pursuit of
company growth, QVC is working to build a solid relationship with China as well. QVC is a well
established, leading firm with competitive advantage. How does a company so secure in its market
position maintain its competitive advantage as well as increase its profits? They maintain
competitive advantage by modifying their strategic plan and seeking opportunities that will increase
product expansion and growth. This case analysis will go over QVC s unique challenges of
maintaining competitive advantage and discuss steps the company takes to continue successfully.
STRATEGIC PROFILE
QVC: The Beginning In 1986, an entrepreneur, Joseph Segel, recognized an opportunity to enter the
televised shopping network market. Unimpressed with the business scheme of the leading shopping
network at that time, Home Shopping Network, Segel believed that he could create an improved
televised shopping network. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They reach nearly 100 million homes and rake in billions of revenue each year. QVC has
evolved beyond your imagination. This is no longer your cheesy infomercial any more. QVC
now appeals to an audience much broader than older women. QVC s core demographic is 75
percent to 80 percent women, ages 20 to 54. This core demographic has a household income of
about $60,000. No more late night jokes of QVC, that you would find on Saturday Night Live,
they have arrived. Meanwhile, as the number of two income households has increased, so has the
need for convenient shopping and quality products that are available at affordable prices (Wilson,

Pros And Cons Of Caesarean Section
Caesarean section (CS) was brought in clinical practice as a life saving procedure both for
mother and baby. Caesarean section (CS ) is a surgical intervention which is carried out to
assure safety of mother and child when vaginal delivery is difficult or when the doctors consider
that the danger to the mother and baby would be greater with a vaginal delivery. One of the
important indicators of emergency obstetric care is Caeserean section rate (World Health
Organization 2009). Various matters like the health care inequity pattern of the world: underuse
of CS in low income settings, and adequate or even unnecessary use in middle and high income
settings can be observed and followed with use of Caeserean section rate(1). Caeserean section
rate below 5 per cent signifies that substantial proportion of women do not have access to
surgical obstetric care; however a rate higher than 15 per cent connotes over utilization of the
surgical procedure for reasons other than for life saving ones (WHO 1993; WHO 1985). Over the
past 3 decades... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Caesarean birth does cost more than normal vaginal delivery. It is being knocked as it draws
resources from other parts of healthcare. Some have interpreted it as unethical for women
undergoing caesarean section without any medical indication. On the other hand, women are now
encouraged to decide their mode of delivery. More concerns are now put on women s satisfaction,
particularly the pain during labour.More research results showed long term complication of urinary
and faecal problems related to vaginal births. This will make more women request caesarean
section. Maternal request has been reported as a significant factor in the rise in caesarean section
rate.(7).This target of 15% caesarean section rate has been commented as an authoritarian approach
to health system, newborn outcome , women s satisfaction and

Examples Of Satire In Candide

Ms. Kalick/Carlton Candide s Garden Candide is a satire written by Voltaire. Voltaire wrote it to
poke fun at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz s idea of philosophical optimism, the belief that we live in
the best of all worlds. Voltaire disagreed with this philosophy, a philosophy which Dr. Pangloss, a
character from the satire, strongly believes in. Another philosophy that is stated in the satire is
Candide s, but let us cultivate our garden . To cultivate [a] garden means to improve ourselves
through open mindedness and adaptation. One way you can improve yourself is by being open to
new ideas. Candide does this throughout the whole novella. At the beginning, Candide blindly

The old woman is the quintessence of a fighter I caught [the plague] it. Imagine to yourself the
distressed situation of the daughter of a Pope, only fifteen years old, who, in less than three
months, had felt the miseries of poverty and slavery, had been ravished almost every day, had
beheld her mother drawn in quarters, had experienced famine and war, and was dying of the
plague in Algiers . The old woman was born the daughter of a Pope and lived in great wealth
until she was about 15 years old. After her ship gets taken over by pirates her life goes downhill
from there, she is raped sees her mother get killed, loses her love and catches the plague but is
still able to say A hundred times I was upon the point of killing myself; but still I loved life .
Another fighter is Cunegonde, who has a similar story to the old woman. I was in bed and fast
asleep when it pleased God to send the Bulgarians to our delightful castle of Thunder ten
Tronckh; they slew my father and brother, and cut my mother in pieces. A tall Bulgarian, six feet
high, perceiving that I had fainted away at this sight, began to ravish me; this made me recover; I
regained my senses.. I wanted to tear out the tall Bulgarian s eyes.. The brute gave me a cut in the
left side with his hanger . Cunegonde has been raped, cut open, seen her whole family slaughtered,

Short Essay On Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs
The Man Who Made Apple
Inventor, Genius, and Hot Tempered are words I would use to describe Steve Jobs. Many
people know that Jobs was the man who made Apple, but he was so much more. As a well
known entrepreneur, Steve Jobs showed the world that electronics could be so much more. He
left a lasting legacy as the man who made our iPhones, iPads, iPods, and Macs. The early life of
Steve Jobs was quite elaborate. The creator was not raised by his biological parents. Jobs was
born on February 24, 1955 in San Francisco to two unwed graduate school students. His maternal
grandfather did not approve of his daughter keeping the baby because she was unwed, and the
father of the baby was not a Catholic like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jobs met Steve Wozniak, his lifetime Apple partner through a mutual friend. As he grew older,
Jobs became close to his sister Mona Simpson. Steve Jobs was friends with Microsoft s founder,
Bill Gates. The CEO s normal attire was a turtle neck shirt and jeans. Steve Jobs married
Laurene Powell on March 18, 1991. Buddhism and his adult life were major influences on Apple.
(newworldencyclopedia.com pg. 2) Steve Jobs created Apple due to many calls to change. As a
child, Steve Jobs experimented with many things. Jobs had an interest in machines ever since he
was a child. Jobs was also a very smart, but not a very good student. Steve Jobs became involved in
electronics because of a neighbor who was an engineer. Jobs s call to change also came as an adult.
(Pollack and Belviso pg. 1) As an adult, Steve Jobs was dissatisfied with the electronics, this was a
major factor in the creation of apple. Jobs was a technician at Atari before Apple. Jobs also worked
at Hewlett Packard for a summer job. Steve Jobs s major goal for Apple was to make a computer
for people to love. Apple s creator s calls to change happened both during his childhood and
adulthood.

Essay about Cryptozoology
Cryptozoology
Cryptozoology is, literally, the study of hidden animals. It is the study of such creatures as the
Australian bunya, Bigfoot, the Chupacabra, and the Loch Ness monster. It is not a recognized
branch of the science of zoology.
Cryptozoology relies heavily upon testimonials and circumstantial evidence in the form of legends
and folklore, and the stories and alleged sightings of mysterious beasts by indigenous peoples,
explorers, and travelers. Since cryptozoologists spend most of their energy trying to establish the
existence of creatures, rather than examining actual animals, they are more akin to psi researchers
than to zoologists.
Expertise in zoology, however, is asserted to be a necessity for work in Cryptozoology, ... Show

With the rumours of dinosaur like creatures stalking the dark corners of Africa, Ley believed that it
was possible the Babylonians had not only heard of such a creature, but have seen one or even had
one living in captivity within their city walls, behind the Ishtar Gate.
Chupacabra Chupacabra which means goat sucker got it s name from the first reports of
mutilated goats. In September 1995 Madeleine Tolentino and other eyewitnesses claimed to have
seen a creature three or four feet tall, with skin like that of a dinosaur, it had bright eyes the size
of hens eggs, long fangs and multicolored spikes down its head and back. Other eyewitnesses have
also said that it looks part bat, part kangaroo, and part alien Grey.
Jersey Devil Since the early 1800s, strange creatures have been sighted in the Pine Barrens of
New Jersey, known as the Jersey Devils. Although various creatures have been given the name
of Jersey Devil, from a suspiciously bogeyman like creature to some water monsters, it has most
often been applied to a huge bat like creature of about three to four feet (about 1 meter) in body
length and with a wingspan of between four and nine feet (1 3 meters). It is covered in brown or
black fur, except for its bare skinned wings. It has a long necked boxy head described as horselike

Criminals Do not Obey Gun Control Laws
In America, the average amount of people shot per year is 100,000; over ten thousand defenseless
people are murdered. The Second Amendment s proclamation that A well regulated Militia, being
necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be
infringed has been an extensive topic of debate. Moreover, the amendment has been one of many
debates over the several years throughout America. The discussion of gun control is often debated
as to whether or not it is morally right to legally bypass the Second Amendment to avoid unlawful
uses of arms. The Second Amendment allows citizens to carry firearms specifically for protection,
gun control hinders that right and places civilians lives in danger. In short, the U.S. government s
intrusive restrictions on gun laws prevent law abiding citizens from defending themselves with
firearms.
The effects of gun control should abide with the Second Amendment. Although true, the Second
Amendment is not an unlimited right to own guns. Notwithstanding, the Second Amendment
allows the freedom to bear arms. The Second Amendment has never been interpreted as giving only
states the right to peaceably assemble. Moreover, the Court did not address whether the Second
Amendment applies to state and local governments. Even though the government chose to limit the
rights of the people, the Second

Little Italy is unique because it is no longer the ethnic enclave it was 115 years ago. When
comparing Little Italy to other ethnic neighborhoods, we can immediately see differences. In
Chinatown, for example, there are many Chinese restaurants, businesses, and structures scattered

and even living in the enclave. When you see these Chinese individuals, they are often speaking the
Chinese language. Little Italy, however, is quite different from Chinatown. Unlike Chinatown, Little

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Hallucinations Essay
INTRODUCTION
Hallucinations are one of the most intriguing secrets of the mind, which are characterized by false
visions, sounds, taste, smell, and touch that can occur when one is awake; it has a sufficient sense
of reality, but one has no control over it. Hallucinations are the form of perception. There is no
particular part of the brain that is involved in hallucinating. For example, people seeing faces could
have a hyperactivity in fusiform face area involved in facial recognition. People with hyperactivity
in the auditory cortex might experience auditory hallucinations: hearing music, or voices, that are
not there. Hallucinations can be frightening, strange, or even amusing and divine. There are
numerous causes of hallucinations: they are usually experienced by people with schizophrenia,
Charles Bonnet syndrome, Parkinson s disease, or other psychological and mental disorders.
However, hallucinations can also be experienced by healthy individuals, who are the subjects for
studying the nature and causes of hallucinations, as they do not interact with other symptoms like
in patients with schizophrenia. Researchers use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)
scans to track the brain activities during hallucinations. The aim of this research paper is to describe
several types of hallucinations, ways of studying hallucinations, and possible treatments.

The National Health Service Breast Screening Programme
The National Health Service Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) was started in 1987 as a
result of a working group of Chief Medical Officers of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern
Ireland. The report put forward recommendations, for screening women aged 50 70 for breast
cancer, indicating that the best way to reduce mortality from the disease, is to detect it before
symptoms develop. This is job of NHSBSP. (Forrest 1986)
The age of women being called for screening has been extended to women aged 47 49 and 71 73
this is a randomised control trial (RCT), selecting women randomly in some areas. The trial is
evaluating the net effects of extending the age range for breast screening. This means that all
women will get two extra screening invitations in their lifetime. It also means that all women will
get their first screening invitation by their 50th birthday. (Age extension 2013)
In the United Kingdom there are a list of diseases that meet the criteria for screening programs.
This includes, Cervical Cancer, Bowel Cancer, Colorectal Cancer (refer to appendix, Screening
Programmes UK for full list). Prostate Cancer is one of the diseases that does not fit the criteria
for a screening programme. This criteria for screening points out that if there is no identifiable
stage prior to the onset of symptoms, only diagnosis, and not early detection, is possible. Test for
prostate cancer are not considered to be very inconvenient, however the reliability of the test is not

Slaughterhouse Five Symbolism Essay
In the novel Slaughterhouse Five, an important motif is the phrase So it goes. This motif is
repeatedly expressed to remind the reader throughout the course of the novel of all the tragic
death that occurs as a result of the war. However, it doesn t just symbolize the death from the war,
but also equalizes all death that occurred in this novel, whether natural, accidental, or intentional.
This phrase also relates to the Tralfamadorians idea that even though someone is dead, they are
still alive in a memory and time travel. For my project, I decided to create a stoplight in order to
symbolize So it goes. I constructed the stoplight by using channels to construct a base. Next, I used

The red light on the stoplight symbolizes death ending a person s life, while the green light
symbolizes life, and the yellow light symbolizes time slowing down or travelling through time.
This stoplight can relate to the novel Slaughterhouse Five because of the Tralfamadorian idea
that even though a person is dead in that moment, they are alive in all the other moments of their
life and in memory. When a Tralfamadorian sees a corpse, all he thinks is that the dead person is
in bad condition in that particular moment, but that the same person is just fine in plenty of other
moments. Now, when I myself see someone dead, I simply shrug and say what the
Tralfamadorians say about dead people, which is So it goes (Vonnegut 27). This relates to the
stoplight because whenever a Tralfamadorian sees death, or the red light, they stop and realize that
they are alive in another moment or memory, the green light. The Tralfamadorian s are never in the
moment, they see life passing them by, and they can visit other eras of

American Jazz Artist Miles Davis Essay
Kind of Blue. This studio album released by American jazz artist Miles Davis is heavily regarded
as the quintessential and definitive jazz album. Many critics regard it as jazz s greatest record and
one of the best albums of all time. Along with redefining and revolutionizing jazz, its influence on
music has been unprecedented. The music theory, style, and organization of Kind of Blue has been
one of the biggest influences on several genres since its creation; including but not limited to rock,
funk, fusion, indie, and hip hop. The culture of jazzis extremely unique in music, and Davis s
album changed that culture and changed the culture of several different genres and music itself.
To truly understand the massive legacy and influence created by Kind of Blue, one would have go
back to the beginning of jazz all the way to modern music. Jazz might just be the most unique
genre of music in the world. Pairing true artistry and creativity with immense technicality and skill
creates music that is simply incomparable. Originating from the African American communities of
New Orleans in the 1910 s, jazz was a fresh new creation heavily predominated by African
Americans. Early forms featured brass bands playing a ragtime and swing style of music, with
improvisation, and unique and syncopated rhythm and blues. Within music, syncopated means
offbeat rhythm. While not popular at first, this early form of jazz started becoming well liked and

Survivance is a term that is used in Native American studies and it includes two important terms:
survival and resistance . Survivance refers to an active sense of presence and in native stories,
natural reason, active traditions, customs, narrative resistance, and clearly observable in personal
attributes, such as humor, spirit, cast of mind, and moral courage (Vizenor). It allows them to
transform their experiences of historical trauma into courage, forgiveness, and healing through

Bird Imagery In Macbeth

Professor Fullmer
English 1010

Macbeth Analysis Macbeth, written in the early 1600 s by William Shakespeare, is an epic play
that follows the course of the twisted war general, Macbeth. Throughout Macbeth, Shakespeare
uses bird imagery to foreshadow events, better describe characters, and also give a detailed
setting. Birds such as the Eagle and falcon are powerful icons, while birds of the night such as the
crow and the owl give off a more eerie sense as predators. Their presence in the story is critical for
a better understanding of the plot. Upon Macbeth s triumphant victory over the forces of
Macdonwald, King Duncan asks for a report on the battle. A sergeant, who seems to find joy in the

News of Duncan s murder quickly spreads around the castle, and servants blame the death of the
king on supernatural events that occur around the castle such as A falcon, towering in her pride
of place, was by a mousing owl hawk s at ant kill d . This supernatural occurrence of an owl
hunting a falcon, is parallel to Macbeth killing King Duncan. The falcon represents an honorable
person who was in his pride of place or rather his throne, when it was stalked and killed by the
malicious owl. King Duncan was at peace in his throne and was the rightful heir to it, but due to
the evilness and greed in the hearts of both Sir Lady Macbeth he was killed. In this instance,

Commentary On Donasia
On May 3, 2017, at approximately 1808 hours, I responded to 3117 Regal Darner Dr in reference
to a baker act. Upon my arrival I made contact with Ninta Tyler Jasmin (complainant) who advised
me of the following via verbal and a sworn statement:
Ninta advised her daughter Donasia Jasmin (suspect/D.O.B 07/13/2000), became very defiant
during her therapy session with her therapist Lucy Bakr. Donasia stated to her therapist she was
going to kill herself or her family members while they were asleep. Ninta advised Donasia has

Hickory Dickory Dock Analysis
Hickory Dickory Dock
Nursery rhymes are poems that have an underline meaning. Nursery rhymes were used in a way to
relay a hidden message that spoke out against the British government. However, guardians and
educators communicated the significance of nursery rhymes to children at a youthful age, asserting
that they are critical for them to build up an urge for dialect, syllables, and rhythm. Individuals
would think that nursery rhymes were sweet and innocent, but in between those lines was a hidden
message that was derogatory. Nursery rhymes originated in Britain roughly around the seventeenth
hundreds. Many nursery rhymes were popular poems like Hickory Dickory Dock. Be that as it
may, does Hickory Dickory Dock have a mischievous significance behind its snappy tune?
Hickory Dickory Dock is a straightforward nursery rhyme about a mouse and a clock. However, it
presumably alludes to one of Britain s minimum rulers who showed up on the political scene in
the seventeenth century. This nursery rhyme initially published in 1743; yet, is thought to allude
to previous events in the earlier century. England was a republic between the execution of King
Charles I in 1649 and the reclamation of the government, under King Charles II, in 1660. Richard
was given power because his brother died which led him to take his throne. As a result, Richard
Cromwell went on for nine months as Lord Protector before offering his resignation. Richard was

In chapter 2 self realization on page 117 Krishna states, You were never born; you will never die.
You have never changed. Our soul is a constant energy. Energy can neither be created nor
destroyed. Krishna is saying that your soul will not die when your body that is in dies. Often when
someone passes you still have this notion that their soulis looking over you.
Our bodies give us our human looks but our souls are what gives us personality gives us what
makes us who we are. Krishna goes onto say in chapter 2 on page 117, As one abandons worn

Self, who lives within. I think Krishna is touching on the idea that when one body that a soul is in

Influenza Epidemic Essay
The Lord will strike with wasting disease, with fever and inflammation, with scorching heat and

During these Tribulations, when a quarter of the earth is gone after the turn of the century, the
human race looks to the government to relieve them. For this, because the origins of this
influenza variant are not precisely known and most influenza pandemics develop in the tropics of
Asia then spread from there to the rest of the world, many believe it originates in China, but the
name of Spanish Flu comes from the early affliction and large mortalities in Spain and not Asia.
Scientifically, whatever gives the 1918 virus the power to generate rapidly, leaves them in a
question about why a person who comes down with the mild flu in the beginning of 1918, can also
come down with a more difficult flu the middle of 1919 that can bring death. One thinks that the
experience will drive people to their knees in repentance to God. Instead, people find the torments
of hell as a justification to blame the Scientific Jews. The fact that the Pandemic introduces darkness
to the citizens of the earth, many do not know why these scientists do not take into consideration
the Trench fever, mustard gas and the fleas in the Trenches for the rapid increase when determining
how the virus spreads. While the combination seems obvious to many veterans, the governments do
not proclaim the German warfare justification for such a tragedy that breeds disease and pestilence.

Theropod Dinosaurs Research Paper
Dinosaurs capture the attention of children and adults alike, and many people think that they are
long gone. You might be surprised to find that they are not extinct, but rather perching in your
backyard. The theory that theropods evolved into birds was proposed nearly a century and a half
ago and is supported by more and more modern evidence. You will find that the distinction between
birds and dinosaurs will become difficult, as they have so many parallels. The similarities between
birds and dinosaurs strongly suggest that birds evolved from theropod dinosaurs.
The theory that theropod dinosaurs are the ancestors of modern birds originated after the discovery
of Archeopteryx lithographica in 1861 in Solnhofen, Germany. Thomas Huxley, a strong supporter

Ratites and penguins are two groups of flightless birds we have today. The origin of flight is an
ongoing debate from scientists, but there are two main theories: that flight evolved arboreally or
that it evolved from ground dwelling dinosaurs. Both have compelling evidence. The theory that
flight started in the trees begins with WAIR (Wing Assisted Incline Running). Discovered in 2001
by Ken Dial at the University of Montana, it is the way many ground dwelling birds get into trees
to rest at night. These birds would flap their wings back and forth (rather than up and down) to
generate traction. The larger the wing size, the steeper the angle a bird could run up (Holtz 149).
Also supporting this theory is the presence of toes adapted for perching in several species of
dinosaurs. From there, the dinosaurs could have glided from tree to tree and eventually taken
flight. A ground dwelling origin of flight also has convincing evidence. A study found that non
avian feathered theropods could get a boost of speed by flapping their wings (Sloan 51). Therefore,
longer feathers and bigger wings meant faster speeds until flight could

Tabloids: In very general terms, a tabloid paper is printed on A2 size paper at 380 mm by 300 mm
(15 by 11Вѕ inches), which is folded to A3, half the size of broadsheets. Tabloids are known as the
popular or gutter press, often perceived as sensationalist in contrast to broadsheets. All the mass
circulation papers are tabloid. Examples: The Sun, The National Enquirer, The National Ledger,
The Star Magazine, New York Post, The Globe.
Berliner or Midi: 470 mm by 315 mm (18ВЅ by 12Вј inches) used by European papers such as Le

Analysis of Newspaper Headlines
A headline is the text at the top of a newspaper article, indicating the nature of the article below it.
Headlines are usually written in bold and in a much larger size than the article text. Front page
headlines are often in upper case so that they can be easily read by the passing potential customer.
Headlines in other parts of the paper are more commonly in sentence case though title case is often
used in the USA.
Headlines are generally written by copy editors, but may also be written by the writer, the page

Chivalry Code
However, Chaucer not only recognized pride within the hierarchies of the common man, but also
recognized the immorality of the knighthood. Knights were usually born into their class and raised
to serve their lords, thus decorating them with a sense of nobility and pride (McLean and Signman
18). Because of their role of protection, knightswere commanded to adhere to a code of conduct.
According to the book, What Life Was Like In the Age of Chivalry, this code of conduct was
constructed by the king and enforced the idea of a strict sense of honor, morale, and duty (53).
This code of conduct was vital for the morality of the knights and was commonly believed to be a
mechanism used to elevate the status of women; however, according to Natalie Demasi, chivalry
isn t about women at all. It is a code written for knights, for the men. Chivalry s true purpose was
meant to elevate the religious and social status of male knights, not the women. This... Show more

While Dorigen, the wife of the knight Arviragus, laments over her husband s absence, Arviragus
is calm, not inclined to worry about whether anyone had spoken to her of love (Chaucer 469).
Arviragus doesn t waver in his trust, for he believes that Dorigen would never betray his love
since he is a noble knight; however, despite the love they share, Dorigen still barters a deal with
another squire for her love. Chaucer was able to recognize the irony within the knighthood and thus
produce a tale in which the Knight, haughty in his mindset of his social status, did not realize the
unfaithfulness of his own wife. Because the knights were regarded as the ideal warrior and man,
pride naturally formed in their behavior. Therefore, Chaucer portrayed the hypocrisy within their
ideals and attacked the knighthood and its social structure in regards to the falsehood of

U.s. R And D Industrial Policy
U.S. R D Industrial Policy While the United States touts free market policies as main guiding
principles, U.S. policy makers have actively used research and development (R D) industrial
policies to maintain and grow the U.S. economy. There are two types of R D, also known as
research and experimentation (R E), funding models; one is direct federal research dollars given to
industry, typically for basic research, and the other in the use of taxcredits for R D activities. Tax
credit policies began in 1981 as part of the Economic Recovery Tax Act (Talley, 2011). The U.S.
has long funded R D, however this funding has steadily decreased with the total in 1976 of just
over 1.2% of GDP with dropping below .8% of GDP in 2014 (AAAS, 2014a). As of 2013, South
Korea, Finland, Japan, Taiwan, and Germany all outspend the U.S. on direct R D funding relative
to GDP (AAAS, 2014b). The IMF and OECD indicate that R D tax credits are a main growth
strategy for the G 20 nations (IMF, 2014). This research topics explores how the United States
domestic industrial policies supporting research and development influence business and
entrepreneurial behaviors within the U.S., which industries has this benefited the most, overall
societal impacts of advancements in technology and automation, and finally how this supports
comparative advantage for the United States as well as implications for developing nations. The

some of the most disciplined people on the face of the earth because they are the ones that are
responsible for educating future generations. They shape the lives of students by passing on
values and beliefs, passion, and a better understanding of their subject matter. In the elementary
grades, students are often asked, What would you like to be when you grow up? I can
remember a time in fourth grade when most of my classmates had responses like astronaut,
rapper, and professional athlete, but our teacher asked, What career could you choose that
would make a difference? Most answers revolved around doctor, nurse, lawyer, and president,
but I raised my hand and responded with teacher. My teacher gave me a look that made me feel

really good teachers that made me realize that there are individuals that have to educate the

The Antamina mine, was the underlying asset of this bidding process which included 40
bidders; though that number was steadily dwindling, and by June of 1996 was down to only a
handful serious contenders. Within the copper mining industry, there were three dominant
players, RTZ CRA, Noranda, and a joint venture of Inmet Mining and Rio Algom. These three
were believed to be the primary bidders. All three had ancillary mineral mining practices aside
from copper, as well as other areas of business. RTZ CRA was the largest of these three, and was
believed to be the best positioned to prevail on the bidding. The other bidders were smaller in
capital but had the same level of mining experience. The joint venture of Rio Algom and Inmet
had only $1.5 billion combined market capitalization, but Inmet had a healthier capital structure
and less financial risk which created a lower cost of capital. The bidding rules reduced the
sensitivity of capital and created comparative advantages for smaller players. For RTZ CRA to
execute on their bid and acquire Antamina at a strategically economic price, they would have to
have made the decision of whether this property would provide long term economic and strategic
value. Since their footprint was global, they would be unable to introduce certain synergies based
on asset proximity of their other properties. Antamina would most likely have to be acquired and

The Root Of Happiness In American Culture
Money seems to be the root of happiness in the American culture. Without money, Americans are
unhappy and discontent with their lives. We are a materialistic breed, meaning we are prone to
expecting money to be the source of our happiness. Although there are several instances where
money is not the direct source of happiness, most of the time it has a large affect on a person s
level of happiness. Although money seems to be the cause of happiness in most cases, it is not.
Money, in today s world is almost necessary to achieve happiness, but not in all of society. Money
cannot buy appreciation, but it does go a long way when talking about a dollar amount or even
what you have. Sure, appreciation will not buy you nice things. The things you have, value, and

Decision Making Of The Petroleum Industry
Decision Making As anything there is always a decision having to be made, but in the petroleum
industry, decision making can be very convoluted. Reason being is because in the past couple of
years a considerable amount of approaches to fix things have arisen. Said by Review, The
difference between a good decision and a bad one can be the difference between success and
disaster, profit and loss, or even life and death. Before making any critical choices always be
sure to have a strategic plan that will follow though to the best end result. As some observations
have shown, is that the choice of oil and gas relates to prices as well as cash flow in this industry.
A key factor for companies is strategically making wise choices on what oil, gas and companies
to make investments in. To begin with, the most essential part of decision making process is to
be fully aware of what is being agreed upon. Weather it be investments or selling crude oil to
another company, the research before any decisions is a very crucial. First, set up a performance
target that is realistic and always stick to it. Set up team meetings and always be sure to have
everyone on board and have agreements within the company. Next would be to follow through
with the decision you are aiming to achieve. It is also very important to stay up to date with the
choice you have chosen to not fall behind on any new technology that can also benefit yourself or

Abstract
With the recent focus on dramatic cuts and escalating healthcare costs in the United States, a new
center of attention has been placed upon postoperative readmission and reimbursement. Although
sacral fractures constitute a large component of all pelvic fractures, there is relatively little data
investigating differences in the postoperative length of stay (LOS), the complication rates, and the
90 day readmissions for these patients. The purpose of this paper was to investigate differences in
postoperative length of stay, complication rates, and 90 day readmission rates for patients with

This significant difference in LOS between ORIF vs. percutaneous fixation of sacral injuries
leading to an average difference of $13,590 in average inpatient cost highlights predicative
information to potentially reduce perioperative costs related to sacral fractures for orthopaedic
surgeons.
INTRODUCTION
45% of all pelvic fractures are sacral injuries [1]. They can occur in high energy collisions, with
motor vehicle accidents making up 57% of these crush injuries [2]. Traumatic force can lead to
compression, which then precipitates neurological complications [3]. For this reason, these
fractures are musculoskeletal injuries requiring emergent action at trauma centers to reduce the risk
of complications.
While open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) methods permits direct visualization of the
injured pelvis, there are highly variable wound complication rates ranging from 3.9% to 27% [4].
Critics of ORIF are concerned about the extremely high risk of infection post operatively, which
can increase from 18% to 27% for fractures treated early and late, respectively [5]. It is reasonable
to consider a more minimally invasive technique such as percutaneous fixation, which uses screws
to mechanically stabilize an unstable sacrum [6]. Percutaneous fixation with iliosacral screws, for
example, have led to decreases in surgical time, exposure related hazards, and soft tissue disruption
[7].

In this compare and contrast essay I will compare four poems in detail and mention two in the
passing to find similarities and differences. The poems and sonnets I have chosen to compare are
Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess by Robert Browning and Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130 by
William Shakespeare
The two Robert Browning poems, Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess were written in the
infamous Victorian Era whereas the two Shakespearean Sonnets were written in the Elizabethan
Era. The styles of the poems differ in accordance to the difference of the time in which they were
written. Pre Romantic Era poems moved away from the idealistic concept of love towards a more
realistic consideration of it, taking into account the social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Likewise, the Victorian Era poet, Christina Rossetti credited with poems like I wish I could
remember, a feminist poem that was written from a woman s point of view, a poem which used the
Italian Sonnet form. Christina Rossetti has used both the English Sonnet and the Italian Sonnet, and
this may be reflective of her background; she was born in England, but her father was Italian, so
Italy, its language and customs had a strong influence on her life and her creativeness.
Sonnet 18 doesn t really show any signs of the blazon, whereas Sonnet 130 shows strong signs of
the reversal of the blazon conventions. It turns the positives into hard hitting real negatives, such
as how his mistress is not a goddess, but in fact a real woman. This brings a new light to the
reader about the poem, and the poem takes on a fresh perspective. The convention used is the
similarly the opposite of the blazon convention in Chapter Four of the Song of Solomon, a love
poem from the Bible, possibly the first recorded example of the blazon convention; its around
3,000 years old,
The two Browning poems, Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess were written to convey to the
reader how women were treated in that era; as possession, as assets. Both of these poems can be
read from different points of view and they also both are what is
known as dramatic monologue. Both of the Robert Browning poems are written in the first person,
similarly to the

(Research and Markets. Business Wire, 2011) This association with marketing has turned some
people away from using them causing a dip in popularity. It s likely because it was over used by
marketers and for many it never worked as it was suppose to. But did you know that the QR code
has other multiple linkable functions in communications that are not related to marketing? These
are based on the delivery of useful information to any user of a smart mobile phone or a device
that has ability to scan the QR code. With the use of QR codes an origination can link digital
copies of data that was previously distributed in printed form thus reducing costs and making them

Differences Between Class, Religion And Politics
Volksgemeinschaft was another principle outlined very greatly in propaganda and that is
overcoming old differences in class, religion and politics. Volksgemeinschaft essentially entails
the creation of a collective national identity by encouraging people to work together for the
benefit of the nation, and promoting German Values . The Propaganda Machine was essentially
another tactic used for when the information and election tactics adaped at a local level, with a
division of different electoral districs. Encouraging feedback from the grassroots, so that
effective ideas can be elsewhere. Posters and leaflets were tailored to fit a whole range of
people. Technology such as loud speakers, radio and film were used to show these very same
ideologies. In September 1933, The Reichskulturekammer (Reich Culture Chamber) was
established and led by Goebbels. The seven sub chambers of fine arts, music, theater, the press,
the radio, literature, and films was established. Only artists that complied with Nazi ideology was
able to become members and be active in the cultural community. bBY 1935, the Reich Culture
Chamber had 100,000 members. The radio was used as one of the main methods of propaganda.
From a speech representatives of the press and radio in March 1933, Goebbels claimed I hold radio
to be the most modern and the most important instrument of mass influence that exists anywhere.
The Reich Radio Company brought all German broadcasting under Nazi control by 1925.

Characteristics Of The English Language Learners
1.There are many types of diversity. List two types and explain how those affect students reading
abilities.
Linguistic diversity is when a student s first language is not the language of instruction at school.
According to Garcia, American Standard English is seen as a vital tool for success in the United
States which affects reading abilities of English language learners. Since the implantation of No
Child Left Behind and Common Core, English language learners have to a second language and
complex academic materials. Teacher have to understand the English language learners face unique
challenges when learning to read and have limited background and vocabulary restrictions.
Cultural diversity is the situation that results when a student s home, family, socioeconomic group,
culture, and society differ from the predominant culture of the school. It is closely related to
linguistic diversity. The student s language is related to culture. When the language that the
students uses at home is different at school, it affects the child ability to communicate which affects
the student s reading ability.
2.There are four instructional approaches that schools use to transform the curriculum in order to
make accommodations for students who are culturally diverse. List and explain two approaches.

concepts and events. It is more social, and students read and discuss cultural

The History Of Israel Is Full Of Patriarchal Stories
IntroductionThe history of Israel is full of Patriarchal stories with a few less matriarchal stories. It
could be said that women did not hold as high of a place as men in the ANE time, but there is one
woman s story that holds a significant amount of weight to the construction of an astounding
prophet of Israel named Samuel, his mother s name was Hannah. Although Hannah did not have a
voice in her society or the polygamous familial situation she was in, Godwas able to subjectively
liberate her giving her a standing relationship with him, and with her newfound voice she co
raised an incredible son with God. I will review Hannah s position in her story through her
polygamous relationship, a wife who was loved but barren, and how she... Show more content on

The way that he loved her was that he wanted to be her everything rather than giving her a son. It
is very possible that Hannah was his trophy wife and he did not want to assume the
responsibility of having children with her. The fact that he already had other children with
Peninah lets us know that he already has that responsibility tolling on him and his money. Birth
control was not uncommon in their day and age too. Elkanah loved Hannah but not enough to
give her what she wanted out of this marriage, a child. The radical monotheist can read this text
and note that it was God that had closed her womb, but with studying more of Elkanah and the
cultural practices of their day it is men who keep women from having kids, not God. Hannah is
stuck in this childless marriage and she is unhappy. She craves to be a mother, something that is
so naturally innate in women and she is sad. Elkanah asks her the question, Am I not more than
10 sons to you ? And she does not even respond to him. Her voice in this moment will not change
the fact that she has no children. She is powerless and childless which makes her feel less of a
woman than Peninah. Hannah goes to the temple at Shiloh to weep. Her burden is too much for
her to bear so she seeks some comfort there. The text says, She presented herself before the Lord
(1 Samuel 1:9). She couldn t use her words to change her position with her husband so she goes to

The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein
The Joy of Giving The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein is a great story about morals and life
lessons. The thought is we should give without expecting anything in return, and what will return to
us is happiness. The Giving Tree illustrates both the difficulty as well as the reward of
unconditional love and giving. The Giving Treebegins with a boy who befriends a tree. Each day
the boy would come to the tree and play with her leaves and climb her branches. When he would
get tired he would take a nap in the shade of the tree; and the tree was happy (Silverstein).
However, as time went on and the boy got older, he had less frequent trips to visit the tree. Time
went on and the boy returned. The tree wanted the boy to play on her... Show more content on

At this point, the story seemed to come full circle as the boy had returned to rest where he had
begun. He had lived his life and even after he had taken all the tree had, she was still happy he
was there. This showed the unconditional love she had for him, even when he gave little in
return. The Giving Tree also shows a bit of selfishness. The boy seemed to be more interested in
material possessions instead of the tree s feelings. It could also argue the point that humans
need to have respect for the environment instead of taking advantage of the resources it
provides. Eventually, if humans take everything, there will be nothing left to give like the story
suggests. We can relate The Giving Tree to parents and their children. A parent would do almost
anything to help and care for their child. They also want to be involved in their child s life as
they grow older. As we grow older, we can forget where we come from and who helped us get
where we are. We begin to miss that peace of mind as time goes on, and we return to our roots to
rest and catch up with our loved ones. Those who love and give to us unconditionally are not
forgotten even if we don t always

  • 3. Pros And Cons Of Caesarean Section Caesarean section (CS) was brought in clinical practice as a life saving procedure both for mother and baby. Caesarean section (CS ) is a surgical intervention which is carried out to assure safety of mother and child when vaginal delivery is difficult or when the doctors consider that the danger to the mother and baby would be greater with a vaginal delivery. One of the important indicators of emergency obstetric care is Caeserean section rate (World Health Organization 2009). Various matters like the health care inequity pattern of the world: underuse of CS in low income settings, and adequate or even unnecessary use in middle and high income settings can be observed and followed with use of Caeserean section rate(1). Caeserean section rate below 5 per cent signifies that substantial proportion of women do not have access to surgical obstetric care; however a rate higher than 15 per cent connotes over utilization of the surgical procedure for reasons other than for life saving ones (WHO 1993; WHO 1985). It is being knocked as it draws resources from other parts of healthcare. Some have interpreted it as unethical for women undergoing caesarean section without any medical indication. On the other hand, women are now encouraged to decide their mode of delivery. More concerns are now put on women s satisfaction, particularly the pain during labour.More research results showed long term complication of urinary and faecal problems related to vaginal births. This will make more women request caesarean section. Maternal request has been reported as a significant factor in the rise in caesarean section rate.(7).This target of 15% caesarean section rate has been commented as an authoritarian approach to health system, newborn outcome , women s satisfaction and ... • 4. Examples Of Satire In Candide Danisa Quezada English 10 November 7, 2016 Ms. Kalick/Carlton Candide s Garden Candide is a satire written by Voltaire. Voltaire wrote it to poke fun at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz s idea of philosophical optimism, the belief that we live in the best of all worlds. Voltaire disagreed with this philosophy, a philosophy which Dr. Pangloss, a character from the satire, strongly believes in. Another philosophy that is stated in the satire is Candide s, but let us cultivate our garden . To cultivate [a] garden means to improve ourselves through open mindedness and adaptation. One way you can improve yourself is by being open to new ideas. Candide does this throughout the whole novella. At the beginning, Candide blindly follows Dr. Pangloss s ... It is the study of such creatures as the Australian bunya, Bigfoot, the Chupacabra, and the Loch Ness monster. It is not a recognized branch of the science of zoology. Cryptozoology relies heavily upon testimonials and circumstantial evidence in the form of legends and folklore, and the stories and alleged sightings of mysterious beasts by indigenous peoples, explorers, and travelers. Since cryptozoologists spend most of their energy trying to establish the existence of creatures, rather than examining actual animals, they are more akin to psi researchers than to zoologists. Criminals Do Not Obey Gun Control Laws Lily Yeremyan Miss Loo American Literature December 08, 2016 Criminals Do not Obey Gun Control Laws In America, the average amount of people shot per year is 100,000; over ten thousand defenseless people are murdered. The Second Amendment s proclamation that A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed has been an extensive topic of debate. Moreover, the amendment has been one of many debates over the several years throughout America. The discussion of gun control is often debated as to whether or not it is morally right to legally bypass the Second Amendment to avoid unlawful uses of arms. The Second Amendment allows citizens to carry firearms specifically for protection, gun control hinders that right and places civilians lives in danger. In short, the U.S. government s intrusive restrictions on gun laws prevent law abiding citizens from defending themselves with firearms. The effects of gun control should abide with the Second Amendment. Although true, the Second Amendment is not an unlimited right to own guns. Notwithstanding, the Second Amendment allows the freedom to bear arms. The Second Amendment has never been interpreted as giving only states the right to peaceably assemble. Moreover, the Court did not address whether the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments. Even though the government chose to limit the rights of the people, the Second ... Symptoms And Symptoms Of Hallucinations Essay INTRODUCTION Hallucinations are one of the most intriguing secrets of the mind, which are characterized by false visions, sounds, taste, smell, and touch that can occur when one is awake; it has a sufficient sense of reality, but one has no control over it. • 17. Slaughterhouse Five Symbolism Essay In the novel Slaughterhouse Five, an important motif is the phrase So it goes. This motif is repeatedly expressed to remind the reader throughout the course of the novel of all the tragic death that occurs as a result of the war. However, it doesn t just symbolize the death from the war, but also equalizes all death that occurred in this novel, whether natural, accidental, or intentional. This phrase also relates to the Tralfamadorians idea that even though someone is dead, they are still alive in a memory and time travel. For my project, I decided to create a stoplight in order to symbolize So it goes. I constructed the stoplight by using channels to construct a base. The red light on the stoplight symbolizes death ending a person s life, while the green light symbolizes life, and the yellow light symbolizes time slowing down or travelling through time. This stoplight can relate to the novel Slaughterhouse Five because of the Tralfamadorian idea that even though a person is dead in that moment, they are alive in all the other moments of their life and in memory. When a Tralfamadorian sees a corpse, all he thinks is that the dead person is in bad condition in that particular moment, but that the same person is just fine in plenty of other moments. Now, when I myself see someone dead, I simply shrug and say what the Tralfamadorians say about dead people, which is So it goes (Vonnegut 27). This relates to the stoplight because whenever a Tralfamadorian sees death, or the red light, they stop and realize that they are alive in another moment or memory, the green light. Many critics regard it as jazz s greatest record and one of the best albums of all time. Along with redefining and revolutionizing jazz, its influence on music has been unprecedented. The music theory, style, and organization of Kind of Blue has been one of the biggest influences on several genres since its creation; including but not limited to rock, funk, fusion, indie, and hip hop. The culture of jazzis extremely unique in music, and Davis s album changed that culture and changed the culture of several different genres and music itself. To truly understand the massive legacy and influence created by Kind of Blue, one would have go back to the beginning of jazz all the way to modern music. Jazz might just be the most unique genre of music in the world. Pairing true artistry and creativity with immense technicality and skill creates music that is simply incomparable. Originating from the African American communities of New Orleans in the 1910 s, jazz was a fresh new creation heavily predominated by African Americans. Early forms featured brass bands playing a ragtime and swing style of music, with improvisation, and unique and syncopated rhythm and blues. Within music, syncopated means offbeat rhythm. • 19. The Round House By Louise Erdrich Survivance is a term that is used in Native American studies and it includes two important terms: survival and resistance . Survivance refers to an active sense of presence and in native stories, natural reason, active traditions, customs, narrative resistance, and clearly observable in personal attributes, such as humor, spirit, cast of mind, and moral courage (Vizenor). It allows them to transform their experiences of historical trauma into courage, forgiveness, and healing through political activism and cultural revitalization (sfsu).Vizenor defines this term in opposition to victimry and it is more than just survival for the Native Americans, but as self reliant perseverance through all the hardships that had presented themselves such as the forced assimilation into the white community and culture. Instead of losing their roots, the Native Americans were able to hold on to their historical culture and traditions and were so much more than mere survival. The Round House, written by Louise Erdrich is a fictional novel that focuses on a Chippewa family in a North Dakota Indian reservation. The story is written from the perspective of a young man, Joe Coutts, who is the son of a tribal judge, Bazil Coutts, and his mother, Geraldine, who was brutally raped by a white man, Lindin Lark, in a savage act of vengeance. Bird Imagery In Macbeth Makord Larsen Professor Fullmer English 1010 November 3, 2014 Macbeth Analysis Macbeth, written in the early 1600 s by William Shakespeare, is an epic play that follows the course of the twisted war general, Macbeth. Throughout Macbeth, Shakespeare uses bird imagery to foreshadow events, better describe characters, and also give a detailed setting. Birds such as the Eagle and falcon are powerful icons, while birds of the night such as the crow and the owl give off a more eerie sense as predators. • 22. Hickory Dickory Dock Analysis Hickory Dickory Dock Nursery rhymes are poems that have an underline meaning. Nursery rhymes were used in a way to relay a hidden message that spoke out against the British government. However, guardians and educators communicated the significance of nursery rhymes to children at a youthful age, asserting that they are critical for them to build up an urge for dialect, syllables, and rhythm. Individuals would think that nursery rhymes were sweet and innocent, but in between those lines was a hidden message that was derogatory. Nursery rhymes originated in Britain roughly around the seventeenth hundreds. Many nursery rhymes were popular poems like Hickory Dickory Dock. Be that as it may, does Hickory Dickory Dock have a mischievous significance behind its snappy tune? Hickory Dickory Dock is a straightforward nursery rhyme about a mouse and a clock. However, it presumably alludes to one of Britain s minimum rulers who showed up on the political scene in the seventeenth century. This nursery rhyme initially published in 1743; yet, is thought to allude to previous events in the earlier century. The theory that theropods evolved into birds was proposed nearly a century and a half ago and is supported by more and more modern evidence. You will find that the distinction between birds and dinosaurs will become difficult, as they have so many parallels. The similarities between birds and dinosaurs strongly suggest that birds evolved from theropod dinosaurs. The origin of flight is an ongoing debate from scientists, but there are two main theories: that flight evolved arboreally or that it evolved from ground dwelling dinosaurs. Both have compelling evidence. The theory that flight started in the trees begins with WAIR (Wing Assisted Incline Running). Discovered in 2001 by Ken Dial at the University of Montana, it is the way many ground dwelling birds get into trees to rest at night. These birds would flap their wings back and forth (rather than up and down) to generate traction. The larger the wing size, the steeper the angle a bird could run up (Holtz 149). Also supporting this theory is the presence of toes adapted for perching in several species of dinosaurs. From there, the dinosaurs could have glided from tree to tree and eventually taken flight. A ground dwelling origin of flight also has convincing evidence. A study found that non avian feathered theropods could get a boost of speed by flapping their wings (Sloan 51). Therefore, longer feathers and bigger wings meant faster speeds until flight could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Knights were usually born into their class and raised to serve their lords, thus decorating them with a sense of nobility and pride (McLean and Signman 18). Because of their role of protection, knightswere commanded to adhere to a code of conduct. According to the book, What Life Was Like In the Age of Chivalry, this code of conduct was constructed by the king and enforced the idea of a strict sense of honor, morale, and duty (53). This code of conduct was vital for the morality of the knights and was commonly believed to be a mechanism used to elevate the status of women; however, according to Natalie Demasi, chivalry isn t about women at all. It is a code written for knights, for the men. Chivalry s true purpose was meant to elevate the religious and social status of male knights, not the women. This... Homo Erectus Essay Homo Erectus has been argued to be the first hominid to successfully migrate out of Africa, Home Erectus had a brain size approaching that of modern humans, averaging just under 100 cubic centimeters, his brain actually reached the lower limit of modern human brain size, Erectus was also the first human species to have a wide, fleshy nose, his face was flat and his skull had prominent ridges over the brow. his shorter arms were a departure from Homo habilisand Australopithecus, indicating that tree climbing ability had finally been lost, His longer legs were better suited to running and walking long distances a trait that doubtless helped him migrate into Asia, ranging from 4 foot 9 to 6 foot 1 are from 88 to 150 pounds, Homo Erectuswas the first ancestor to approximate modern humans in size, in fact, except for the brow ridges and smaller brain. homo erectus was perhaps the fisrt species that we might consider to be essentially human.... • 38. Decision Making Of The Petroleum Industry Decision Making As anything there is always a decision having to be made, but in the petroleum industry, decision making can be very convoluted. Reason being is because in the past couple of years a considerable amount of approaches to fix things have arisen. Said by Review, The difference between a good decision and a bad one can be the difference between success and disaster, profit and loss, or even life and death. Before making any critical choices always be sure to have a strategic plan that will follow though to the best end result. As some observations have shown, is that the choice of oil and gas relates to prices as well as cash flow in this industry. A key factor for companies is strategically making wise choices on what oil, gas and companies to make investments in. To begin with, the most essential part of decision making process is to be fully aware of what is being agreed upon. Weather it be investments or selling crude oil to another company, the research before any decisions is a very crucial. First, set up a performance target that is realistic and always stick to it. Set up team meetings and always be sure to have everyone on board and have agreements within the company. Next would be to follow through with the decision you are aiming to achieve. It is also very important to stay up to date with the choice you have chosen to not fall behind on any new technology that can also benefit yourself or company. • 39. Complications, Complication Rates, And 90 Day Readmission... Abstract With the recent focus on dramatic cuts and escalating healthcare costs in the United States, a new center of attention has been placed upon postoperative readmission and reimbursement. Although sacral fractures constitute a large component of all pelvic fractures, there is relatively little data investigating differences in the postoperative length of stay (LOS), the complication rates, and the 90 day readmissions for these patients. The purpose of this paper was to investigate differences in postoperative length of stay, complication rates, and 90 day readmission rates for patients with operative isolated sacral fractures. This significant difference in LOS between ORIF vs. percutaneous fixation of sacral injuries leading to an average difference of $13,590 in average inpatient cost highlights predicative information to potentially reduce perioperative costs related to sacral fractures for orthopaedic surgeons. INTRODUCTION 45% of all pelvic fractures are sacral injuries [1]. They can occur in high energy collisions, with motor vehicle accidents making up 57% of these crush injuries [2]. Traumatic force can lead to compression, which then precipitates neurological complications [3]. For this reason, these fractures are musculoskeletal injuries requiring emergent action at trauma centers to reduce the risk of complications. While open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) methods permits direct visualization of the injured pelvis, there are highly variable wound complication rates ranging from 3.9% to 27% [4]. Critics of ORIF are concerned about the extremely high risk of infection post operatively, which can increase from 18% to 27% for fractures treated early and late, respectively [5]. It is reasonable to consider a more minimally invasive technique such as percutaneous fixation, which uses screws to mechanically stabilize an unstable sacrum [6]. Percutaneous fixation with iliosacral screws, for example, have led to decreases in surgical time, exposure related hazards, and soft tissue disruption [7]. • 40. Pre –1914 Poetry Comparison on Love Essay In this compare and contrast essay I will compare four poems in detail and mention two in the passing to find similarities and differences. The poems and sonnets I have chosen to compare are Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess by Robert Browning and Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare The two Robert Browning poems, Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess were written in the infamous Victorian Era whereas the two Shakespearean Sonnets were written in the Elizabethan Era. The styles of the poems differ in accordance to the difference of the time in which they were written. Likewise, the Victorian Era poet, Christina Rossetti credited with poems like I wish I could remember, a feminist poem that was written from a woman s point of view, a poem which used the Italian Sonnet form. Christina Rossetti has used both the English Sonnet and the Italian Sonnet, and this may be reflective of her background; she was born in England, but her father was Italian, so Italy, its language and customs had a strong influence on her life and her creativeness. Sonnet 18 doesn t really show any signs of the blazon, whereas Sonnet 130 shows strong signs of the reversal of the blazon conventions. It turns the positives into hard hitting real negatives, such as how his mistress is not a goddess, but in fact a real woman. This brings a new light to the reader about the poem, and the poem takes on a fresh perspective. The convention used is the similarly the opposite of the blazon convention in Chapter Four of the Song of Solomon, a love poem from the Bible, possibly the first recorded example of the blazon convention; its around 3,000 years old, The two Browning poems, Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess were written to convey to the reader how women were treated in that era; as possession, as assets. Both of these poems can be read from different points of view and they also both are what is known as dramatic monologue. • 45. The History Of Israel Is Full Of Patriarchal Stories IntroductionThe history of Israel is full of Patriarchal stories with a few less matriarchal stories. It could be said that women did not hold as high of a place as men in the ANE time, but there is one woman s story that holds a significant amount of weight to the construction of an astounding prophet of Israel named Samuel, his mother s name was Hannah. Although Hannah did not have a voice in her society or the polygamous familial situation she was in, Godwas able to subjectively liberate her giving her a standing relationship with him, and with her newfound voice she co raised an incredible son with God. The way that he loved her was that he wanted to be her everything rather than giving her a son. It is very possible that Hannah was his trophy wife and he did not want to assume the responsibility of having children with her. The fact that he already had other children with Peninah lets us know that he already has that responsibility tolling on him and his money. Birth control was not uncommon in their day and age too. Elkanah loved Hannah but not enough to give her what she wanted out of this marriage, a child. The radical monotheist can read this text and note that it was God that had closed her womb, but with studying more of Elkanah and the cultural practices of their day it is men who keep women from having kids, not God. Hannah is stuck in this childless marriage and she is unhappy. She craves to be a mother, something that is so naturally innate in women and she is sad. Elkanah asks her the question, Am I not more than 10 sons to you ? And she does not even respond to him. Her voice in this moment will not change the fact that she has no children. She is powerless and childless which makes her feel less of a woman than Peninah. Hannah goes to the temple at Shiloh to weep. Her burden is too much for her to bear so she seeks some comfort there. The text says, She presented herself before the Lord (1 Samuel 1:9). She couldn t use her words to change her position with her husband so she goes to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein The Joy of Giving The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein is a great story about morals and life lessons. The thought is we should give without expecting anything in return, and what will return to us is happiness. The Giving Tree illustrates both the difficulty as well as the reward of unconditional love and giving. The Giving Treebegins with a boy who befriends a tree. Each day the boy would come to the tree and play with her leaves and climb her branches. When he would get tired he would take a nap in the shade of the tree; and the tree was happy (Silverstein). However, as time went on and the boy got older, he had less frequent trips to visit the tree. Time went on and the boy returned. The tree wanted the boy to play on her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point, the story seemed to come full circle as the boy had returned to rest where he had begun. He had lived his life and even after he had taken all the tree had, she was still happy he was there. This showed the unconditional love she had for him, even when he gave little in return. The Giving Tree also shows a bit of selfishness. The boy seemed to be more interested in material possessions instead of the tree s feelings. It could also argue the point that humans need to have respect for the environment instead of taking advantage of the resources it provides. Eventually, if humans take everything, there will be nothing left to give like the story suggests. We can relate The Giving Tree to parents and their children. A parent would do almost anything to help and care for their child. They also want to be involved in their child s life as they grow older. As we grow older, we can forget where we come from and who helped us get where we are. We begin to miss that peace of mind as time goes on, and we return to our roots to rest and catch up with our loved ones.
