INTRODUCTION…..
Coca-Cola is a carbonated soft drink sold in stores, restaurants and
vending machines in more than 200 countries. It is produced by The
Coca-Cola Company and is often referred to simply as Coke.
The company actually produces concentrate, which is then sold to
various licensed Coca-Cola bottlers throughout the world.
The bottlers, who hold territorially exclusive contracts with the
company, produce finished product in cans and bottles from the
concentrate in combination with filtered water and sweeteners.
The bottlers then sell, distribute and merchandise Coca-Cola in cans
and bottles to retail stores and vending machines.

WATER TREATMENT PLANT
ABOUT WTP…
 Borewell : A deep, narrow well for water that is
drilled into the ground and has a pipe fitted as a
casing in the upper part of the borehole, typically
equipped with a pump to draw the water to the
surface.
 B.B.P.L. have 2 bore-wells of 250ft each supplied
water whose parameters are initially checked .

• Chlorine dosing = 3-5ppm
• Pumps are used for injecting a product such as chlorine
into a water or fluid stream to cause a chemical reaction.
ONLINE
CHLORINE
DOSING
• There are two tanks of 100 KL and 350 KL capacity
which are used for storage of raw water.
RAW WATER
STORAGE
TANK
• Coagulation-flocculation is a chemical water treatment
technique typically applied prior to sedimentation and
filtration (e.g. rapid sand filtration) to enhance the ability
of a treatment process to remove particles.(Chemicals
used:-feSO4 calcium hypo chloride Ca(OCl)₂)
lime(Ca(OH)2
COAGULATION
SYSTEM
• The Pressure Sand Filter consists of a multiple layer
of sand with a variety in size and specific gravity.
• These Filters are designed to remove turbidity and
suspended particles present in the feed water with
minimum pressure drop. These Filters are custom
designed to suit the process requirement.
PRESSURE
SAND FILTERS
• This is mainly used so as to reduce pH of water or
maintain it at neutral which in turns reduce the p-alkalinity
content of water. While treating with lime alkalinity of
water increases this is also reduces by carbonation.
CARBONATION
TANK
• Activated carbon filters are small pieces of carbon,
typically in granular or powdered block form, that have
been treated to be extremely porous.
• Adsorption is a distinct process where organic
compounds in the air or water react chemically with the
activated carbon, which causes them to stick to the filter.
ACTIVATED
CARBON
FILTERS
• It contain only granular activated carbon layers. Mainly filter out
pesticide content of water if present any and also finally removal
chlorine from water.
LEAD LAG

CARBON
FILTERS
• Ultraviolet lamp, also called Black-light Lamp, device for producing
electromagnetic radiations in the wavelengths between those of
visible light and X-rays.
• . The ultraviolet lamp usually consists of an electric discharge lamp
with material that yields radiations at the desired wavelength.
Ultraviolet lamps are usually housed in quartz or special glass that
transmits ultraviolet radiation more readily than ordinary glass.
ULTRAVOILET
LAMP
• Total three 8 micron filter,5 micron filter & 0.65 micron filters. These
filter out minute particles remaining in water but the 0.65 micron filter
is basically equipped to remove microbial contamination if present
any in the water even after the U.V. treatment.
MICRON
FILTER
TESTING PARAMETERS
Taste and
Odor
• Taste and odor -producing substances such as chlorine, chlorophenols,
chloramines, hydrogen sulfide, and iron can all react with the delicate
flavors in beverages to affect product taste. Additionally, the mineral
content of the water must be low enough that it does not cause a brackish
or saline taste in the beverage.
pH Control
• Each coagulant has a specific pH range where maximum precipitation will
occur. This is also the point of minimum solubility. The optimum pH is
dependent on the coagulant used, and on the chemical characteristics of
the raw water. In general, the pH optimum for aluminum coagulants is
between 6.0 and 7.5, and for iron coagulants it is between 8.3 and 11.
P-
ALKALINITY
• This alkalinity is easily measured by titration with a standard solution of
N/50 sulfuric acid. During the experiment the water is taken in a conical
flex and the acid is taken in the burette. The endpoint pH range of the
phenolphthalein indicator is 10-8.3 It is an alkalinity presence in water and
mainly due to presence of hydroxyl & carbonate ions.
M-
ALKALINITY
• The amount and type of alkalinity present is determined by
direct titration with N/50 sulfuric acid, which gives the M
alkalinity values. It o known also known as total alkalinity
and is due to the presence of carbonates, bi-carbonates &
hydroxyl ions in water.
Na-
ALKALINITY
• Mainly due to the presence of NaHCO3, Na2CO3& NaOH in
water.
Ca
HARDNESS
• General guidelines for classification of waters are: 0 to 60
mg/L (milligrams per liter) as calcium carbonate is
classified as soft; 61 to 120 mg/L as moderately hard; 121
to 180 mg/L as hard; and more than 180 mg/L as very
hard.
TOTAL
HARDNESS
• Water hardness can be easily measured using a
simple soap test kit that will measure in "grains of
hardness" (a little bottle with a line marked on it
which you fill to the line with water, add a drop of
soap, and shake to look for suds. More drops of
soap - more degrees of hardness)
TOTAL
DISSOLVED
SOLIDS
• The main contaminant present in water is total
dissolved solids (TDS) that are left in the water after
the normal filtration process. Contaminants that are
larger than 2 microns are termed as total dissolved
solids. Dissolved solids" refer to any minerals, salts,
metals, cations or anions dissolved in water. Total
dissolved solids (TDS) comprise inorganic salts By
TDS meter.
REQUIREMENT FOR SOFT DRINK
MANUFACTURING
PROCESS…
Automated machinery dispenses the mixture, in precisely calculated
quantities, into sterilised bottles while another cans, caps or seals them.
The mixture is saturated with carbon dioxide at a low temperature and
under high pressure to give the drinks their renowned ‘fizziness’
Sugar is added, along with the appropriate beverage concentrate to
produce‘ syrup’, the basic component for the soft drink.
Pure water is subjected to sophisticated filtering, softening and
disinfecting to remove all impurities
CONTINUED…..
The packed beverages are delivered by trucks to storage
facilities to await delivery to customers and to be enjoyed
by consumers.
After final checking, bottles and cans are transported to
machines which pack them in cartons or boxes before
being laces on wooden pallets.
The containers move to another machine which applies
labels and bar codes, after which they are automatically
inspected to guarantee they meet all requirements.

PRESSURE SAND FILTERS • This is mainly used so as to reduce pH of water or maintain it at neutral which in turns reduce the p-alkalinity content of water. While treating with lime alkalinity of water increases this is also reduces by carbonation. CARBONATION TANK • Activated carbon filters are small pieces of carbon, typically in granular or powdered block form, that have been treated to be extremely porous. • Adsorption is a distinct process where organic compounds in the air or water react chemically with the activated carbon, which causes them to stick to the filter. ACTIVATED CARBON FILTERS
  • 9. • It contain only granular activated carbon layers. Mainly filter out pesticide content of water if present any and also finally removal chlorine from water. LEAD LAG ACTIVATED CARBON FILTERS • Ultraviolet lamp, also called Black-light Lamp, device for producing electromagnetic radiations in the wavelengths between those of visible light and X-rays. • . The ultraviolet lamp usually consists of an electric discharge lamp with material that yields radiations at the desired wavelength. Ultraviolet lamps are usually housed in quartz or special glass that transmits ultraviolet radiation more readily than ordinary glass. ULTRAVOILET LAMP • Total three 8 micron filter,5 micron filter & 0.65 micron filters. These filter out minute particles remaining in water but the 0.65 micron filter is basically equipped to remove microbial contamination if present any in the water even after the U.V. treatment. • 10. TESTING PARAMETERS Taste and Odor • Taste and odor -producing substances such as chlorine, chlorophenols, chloramines, hydrogen sulfide, and iron can all react with the delicate flavors in beverages to affect product taste. Additionally, the mineral content of the water must be low enough that it does not cause a brackish or saline taste in the beverage. pH Control • Each coagulant has a specific pH range where maximum precipitation will occur. This is also the point of minimum solubility. The optimum pH is dependent on the coagulant used, and on the chemical characteristics of the raw water. In general, the pH optimum for aluminum coagulants is between 6.0 and 7.5, and for iron coagulants it is between 8.3 and 11. P- ALKALINITY • This alkalinity is easily measured by titration with a standard solution of N/50 sulfuric acid. During the experiment the water is taken in a conical flex and the acid is taken in the burette. The endpoint pH range of the phenolphthalein indicator is 10-8.3 It is an alkalinity presence in water and mainly due to presence of hydroxyl & carbonate ions.
  • 11. M- ALKALINITY • The amount and type of alkalinity present is determined by direct titration with N/50 sulfuric acid, which gives the M alkalinity values. It o known also known as total alkalinity and is due to the presence of carbonates, bi-carbonates & hydroxyl ions in water. Na- ALKALINITY • Mainly due to the presence of NaHCO3, Na2CO3& NaOH in water. Ca HARDNESS • General guidelines for classification of waters are: 0 to 60 mg/L (milligrams per liter) as calcium carbonate is classified as soft; 61 to 120 mg/L as moderately hard; 121 to 180 mg/L as hard; and more than 180 mg/L as very hard.
  • 12. TOTAL HARDNESS • Water hardness can be easily measured using a simple soap test kit that will measure in "grains of hardness" (a little bottle with a line marked on it which you fill to the line with water, add a drop of soap, and shake to look for suds. More drops of soap - more degrees of hardness) TOTAL DISSOLVED SOLIDS • The main contaminant present in water is total dissolved solids (TDS) that are left in the water after the normal filtration process. Contaminants that are larger than 2 microns are termed as total dissolved solids. Dissolved solids" refer to any minerals, salts, metals, cations or anions dissolved in water. Total dissolved solids (TDS) comprise inorganic salts By TDS meter.

  • 14. PROCESS… Automated machinery dispenses the mixture, in precisely calculated quantities, into sterilised bottles while another cans, caps or seals them. The mixture is saturated with carbon dioxide at a low temperature and under high pressure to give the drinks their renowned ‘fizziness’ Sugar is added, along with the appropriate beverage concentrate to produce‘ syrup’, the basic component for the soft drink. Pure water is subjected to sophisticated filtering, softening and disinfecting to remove all impurities
  • 15. CONTINUED….. The packed beverages are delivered by trucks to storage facilities to await delivery to customers and to be enjoyed by consumers. After final checking, bottles and cans are transported to machines which pack them in cartons or boxes before being laces on wooden pallets. The containers move to another machine which applies labels and bar codes, after which they are automatically inspected to guarantee they meet all requirements.
