Putting it all together: THE WATER CYCLE
The Water Cycle Song
3. Evaporation
Water begins its journey
as a liquid in streams,
rivers, ponds, lakes, and
oceans…even puddles! It
is in a liquid state and sits
on the earth because it is
heavier than air.

4. Evaporation
When the sun heats up the water, the water turns into
vapor (tiny molecules of water) and heads for the sky.
When water evaporates it is lighter than air.

6. Transpiration
Plants absorb water from the soil. Each plant will use the
water that it needs to help it grow. As extra water travels
through the plant and to its leaves, it is pulled out and
evaporated into the air. This process is called transpiration.

8. Condensation
Did the water leak through the glass? No! It came from
the air! Water vapor in the air became cooler when it
touched the cold glass, causing it to became liquid again!

9. Condensation
When water vapor goes up into the air, it becomes colder
and gathers with millions of other tiny molecules of water
to create all of the beautiful clouds in our skies!

10. Condensation
Did you notice something about the process of condensation?
It is the OPPOSITE of evaporation!
Why is that?!

12. Precipitation
We get precipitation when so much condensed water has become
too heavy for the atmosphere to hold on to.

13. Precipitation
The clouds get so packed with water molecules that they
become heavy and much colder. As the evaporation cools, it
turns back into water and falls down to the ground.

Thus, completing The into The Water Cycle
…that goes into
the air and
…and precipitates condenses…
First, we get heat it cools and
once
becomes heavy…
from the sun…
…then collects in
…which evaporates and on the earth.
the water…
