Water is distributed throughout the human body in different proportions. Approximately 60% of total body weight is water, with some variations between gender and age. Water content is highest in muscles and organs at around 70-75% and lowest in fat and bones at 10-15%. Water is lost from the body through urine, feces, sweat, respiration and other minor routes to maintain water balance, which is regulated by thirst, ADH, and other hormones. Imbalances can lead to dehydration or overhydration.
