This document proposes the WASH INDIA concept to address sustainability issues facing over 10,000 community water schemes in Kerala. It involves creating a central hub organization and professional "service provider spokes" to support rural and urban local governments, communities, and private households. The central hub would coordinate advocacy, training, and knowledge sharing. Service provider spokes would operate as independent business units offering need-based professional services like training, operations and maintenance, infrastructure rehabilitation, water quality monitoring, and more. This network of organizations would leverage existing NGO capacities and provide market-based WASH services statewide.
