This document discusses deploying gateway servers to enable Wake on LAN services. It provides specifications for gateway servers, including a 1.2GHz Marvell Sheeva CPU with 512 MB RAM and flash memory, and a 1.6GHz Atom CPU server with 1 GB RAM and 80 GB hard drive. It also estimates the energy consumption and costs of desktop computers left on versus powered down overnight and weekends, finding powering down can save over £8,000 per year for an organization with 16,000 devices. Steps for implementing Wake on LAN and power management tools are outlined, along with communicating savings and sharing experiences with others.
