For the past decade, our country's education system has reached a flat line in results. Studies show
that the United States is the number one country in education spending in order to improve our
results, but standardized test scores have plateaued. During President George W. Bush's term, he
initiated a program titled "No Child Left Behind." No offense to President Bush, however his
educational initiative is the most ironic title due to its produced results. So far, no state in our
country has reached one hundred percent proficiency in mathematics and language arts and the

My peers and past teachers would agree that I had not been affected by the system, but what
matters to me is the performance of my peers in the classes of 2018 and above and the hopefully
upward trend of improvement. I concede that lessons I learned in school helped me improve my
critical thinking and academic schools, but it helped build my character. I appreciate the education I
received, but I do believe we need change because one success story cannot compare to thousands of

Waiting for "Superman" was filmed by Davis Guggenheim. It was released back in 2009. It talks
about the education system in different neighborhoods around the United States of America. It also
shows the corruption in the education system. This movie shows how the bad the public education
is, and how many people are struggling on a daily basis to get a great education no matter the
sacrifices.
Waiting for "Superman" is based on different ethnicity, living environments, and the resources
available to them for their education. Many of them are living in poverty, their parents might not
have enough money to give them a great education. In the movie, we have five main characters.
Their names are Daisy Esparza, from Los Angeles, Francisco Regalado, from the Bronx. We have
Anthony, he is also from the Bronx, and lastly, Emily, who is from a suburb in California called
Redwood City. They are trying their best to keep them on track inschool and help them maybe one
day get into college. This starts by the simple face, of taking consent care of them and putting
attention on their children. It also shows how many teachers don't care about their student's such as
the teacher that Francisco had. Her mother tried to get in contact to see Francisco's progress in
reading. The teacher wouldn't answer any calls or any offices call from her. It shows the
