Fabian Lopez presented on the vxVistA.org collaboration environment. vxVistA is an open source version of VistA enhanced by DSS, Inc. to work in non-VA healthcare settings. vxVistA.org will provide a community platform for healthcare organizations to collaborate and share best practices using open source VistA EHR systems. The presentation demonstrated the Confluence wiki platform and how it can be used to create pages, blogs, forums and diagrams to support collaboration around VistA enhancements and implementations.

What is vxVistA?
A scalable Enterprise Level Electronic Health Record System based on the VA’s FOIA VistA EHR System but enhanced to deliver the highest quality, field proven, and most utilized electronic health system to the private sector.
DSS vxVistA differs from FOIA VistA or any other commercially available VistA system. DSS is the only company that offers a private sector VistA system but who also works in partnership with the Veteran’s Administration to develop and support modules within VA/FOIA VistA.
As a result, solid features and enhancements are created that will work within the current and future VA/FOIA VistA architecture. Our focus is on augmenting the VA/FOIA VistA system in ways that bring function and value to our users in the private sector while still leveraging the millions of dollars the government spends on enhancing the VA/FOIA VistA system each year.

Linux is a viable option for those companies that have in-house
expertise with Linux and wish to utilize existing infrastructure and
resources – though at this time there is no commercial support available
for vxVistA on Linux.
We will be discussing Windows-based solutions today.
vxVistA may be adapted and supported for Linux and other platforms by
community members in the future.
