This document discusses VoLTE (Voice over Long Term Evolution), which allows high-definition voice calls over 4G LTE networks rather than reverting to 2G/3G networks. VoLTE uses an IP Multimedia Subsystem to define control and media for voice services over LTE. It has higher voice and data capacity than 3G and 2G networks. Early commercial VoLTE services began in 2014 in Singapore and 2015 in Cambodia without 2G/3G networks. VoLTE provides benefits to users like HD voice calls, better battery life, faster call setup and video calling capabilities.

2. INTRODUCTION
 VoLTE-Voice over Long Term Evolution.
 • It is based on the IP Multimedia Subsystem
(IMS)
 network, with specific profiles for control and
media
 planes of voice service on LTE defined by GSMA
in
 PRD IR.92.
 • VoLTE has up to three times more voice and
data
 capacity than 3G UMTS and up to six times more
 than 2G GSM.

3. HISTORY
  In May 2014, Singtel introduced the world's first
 commercial "full-featured" VoLTE service in Singapore,
 only in combination with the Galaxy Note 3..Later on
 samsung s6,sony z3+ etc..,
  On 11 July 2015, SEATEL Cambodia announced the
 world's first commercial 100% VoLTE service without
 2G/3G in Cambodia
 become Malaysia's FIRST VoLTE service provider.
  Reliance Jio announced commercial launch of 100%
 VoLTE service without 2G/3G based services in India
 on 5th Sep 2016.

 Basically LTE is a main hardware for 4G
network and VoLTE is a software based service.

7. DIFFRENCE
 Then what makes the difference between
"Circuit-Switched Network " and
 "Packet-Switched Network".
 Circuit-Switched Network :
 In Circuit switching if two people are
communicating over voice call, a line with
particular amount of bandwidth is
allocated for that call which will exist till
the call ends.

indicates the circuit switched network.

 Packet-Switched Network :
 In Packet Switched network, the message is
divided into piece of packets and the packets are
sent individually. Packet Switched Network is
not like Circuit Switched, a particular amount of
bandwidth is reserved to make a call. This raw
data is divided into packets and it is delivered to
the End User.
 This is less reliable then circuit switching
network.

9. HOW VOICE CALLS WORK IN 4G LTE &
VOLTE ?
 Originally LTE was completely IP Cellular
System for carrying Data. If you were making a
call from LTE Network, the operators would be
able to carry the voice either by reverting to
2G/3G technologies.
 VoLTE :
 VoLTE is a HD voice calling Service over 4G LTE
rather than 2G/3G network present we are using.
 By using VoLTE we can make calls more faster
than 2G/3G connections. It has added advantages
of Security and Quality of services.
