2. This is the first image you are presented with when watching this video. There are
9 men, all is suits. This image is in black and white. The first three seconds they are
‘sorting themselves out’. They are doing this as a background voice says “Stand by”.
As soon as that is said they go into the first verse. This, so far seems to be quite
simple; with all the men wearing the same. There is one man central who seems
like he is the lead vocalist. As well as that he seems bigger than the other men. This
conveys the other men arte not as important as the man who is central.
3. These are the 15 images from that the audience sees in the first 22 seconds of the video.
The shot is always changing. Highlighting one singer in particular.
This man is appears in 4 solo shots by himself, whereas
the others do not appear in any solo spots. The order
of how the men are all standing is always changing.
they are still wearing these grey suits. The background
is just a plain white with nothing to look at, making the
audience look at this dull white and grey video.
4. It then suddenly cuts out of the grey, dull suits and snaps to blue suits with black ties. They do
this when the lyrics “I’m Happy!” are sung. They are wearing now wearing bright clothes, which
could convey they are now happy. The atmosphere of the song has now also changed to a
‘happier’ one. Furthermore, the nine men are now dancing, this suggests that the men are happy
because they are dancing.
Throughout the next 23 seconds the men dance to this song, and the shot are continuously
changing, with the men swapping places. The lead vocalist, or the man standing central keeps
changing as well. This then suggests that there isn’t a lead vocalist.
They are also smiling and look very happy. Like this guy here:
5. There is then 4 snap shots of swapping from the blue to coloured t-shirts, it then
stays on the coloured t-shirts. 3 men have light blue on, 3 have yellow on, and 3
have red on. These again are all happy colours. When researching what typical
music videos have in them, it mentioned loud and bright colours. The shots then
keep cutting from them all changing positions. But staying in this formation.
6. They then all fade out on the line “Don’t waste your time”, and it is left with the
man in the middle. They are all pointing to the screen, meaning the viewer. They
are all still looking very happy and you can see they still want to be there, because
they are happy.
They then all cut back in, one by one.
7. As soon as all singers are in shot again they snap to this shot of them all doing the
same dance move. They all seem to be having fun. The dance move is quite
popular, but it isn’t considered ‘cool’.
The next nine shots are of them all dancing the individual persons dance move.
The persons whose dance move it is, is central and at the front. They are all still
signing “Happy!”.
8. • We then go to this shot of the men wearing this. They don’t look as
happy as they have previously/ They are all wearing the same, apart
from the threes who all have individual accessories such as hats,
sweatband or nothing.
9. The men the ‘flicker’ out of the shot to leave this one man. The shot then snaps to them all in UV clothing, singing the
Words “Happy!”. For the next seventeen seconds the shot snaps from all men in the costumers above, to them in the UV lighting.
The UV lighting at some points strobe, to show the excitement and anticipation of what is to come.
10. It then snaps to this shot of many people dancing. There are balloons
and many other party objects and props in shot. Everybody now seems
like they are at a party. With the nine singers still standing out in their
red, blue or yellow t-shirts. They are signing the chorus.
11. For the next 48 seconds the shot just snaps between the party scene and them
wearing the blue suits. They are singing and dancing throughout the 48 seconds
and looking very happy.
The camera angle stays the same throughout. It is a high angle shot, showing all
nine men at all times (If they are in shot)
The editing is basic and same throughout, the shot will snap on the beats and
when there is a different verse.
The video is quite basic with low production. The video has been highly edited.
This video links well to the Pentatonix video of Royals because they are similar
singers, and like their videos they are basic.
