To aware people that smoking increases the
risk of lung cancer, asthma and tuberculosis
 to aware about cause, symptom and
treatment of asthma
1
• The quality of air should
have effect on lung
capacity. More OXYZEN
percent due to green
surrounding should increase
vital capacity. People living
in concrete buildings in
polluted areas should have
lesser lung capacity.
Need statement
 For our findings ,we selected 50 students living near area of
heavy traffic or industry and 50 students living near spacious
house with green surrounding. We measured vital capacity of
these students by blowing the balloon in one breath.
 The formula for % vital capacity =
 (actual vital capacity AVC / expected vital capacity EVC)X100
 EVC=BSAX2500 (FOR MALE)
 AVC is calculated by measuring diameter of balloon and
corresponding value taken from the graph standardized by
spirometry.
 We observe that 6% subjects living in
green area are found to suffer from
asthma and 10% of subjects living in
polluted area are found to suffer from
asthma and allergy. When we talked
with the patients of asthma ,we found
that in morning and evening when
the humidity is high severity of
asthma increases and when the
students start breathing exercises,
vital capacity of students became
more.
Observation
we created awareness in the people around our school and in
slum areas. The parents who had come at PTM were also awared
not to smoke and that it is very injurious to health. There is 2
times increase in the infection of asthma due to smoke.
Smoking causes severe flare up of asthma .80 – 90%
lung cases are due to smoking.1.5 million 11-17
years old starts smoking each year .we
created models and charts for lung
diseases like asthma ,
tuberculosis and
lung cancer.

It is very important to note that the vital
capacity of young children is not as it is
desirable i.e. 80 % or more.
 The result of our study was very worrying. So
we met Dr. Gurkamal singh, physiotherapist
in golden hospital to suggest some breathing
exercises for chest expansion . we prepared
awareness model for the awakening parents
and explained them following tips that are
Live in well ventilated house. Chest
expansion and breathing exercises and yoga.
Planting trees around to keep surroundings
clean. Nine times deep breathing in a day is
must. In all the classes from 6th we taught
them to keep a watch on vital capacity to
improve it.

 Our team is thankful to Mrs. Sudha babbar
principal, Jainendra public school for her
inspiration to do socially useful projects. We
are also thankful to Dr. gurukamal Singh,
physiotherapist , golden hospital for giving
us valuable information about breathing
exercises. We also thank patients of asthma
who cooperated with us. We are also
thankful to Mrs. Saroj Sharma for her
guidance in this project.
