Mobility in a digital time: Virtual mobility as an alternative for or a compl...Ilse Op de Beeck
Virtual mobility involves using information and communication technologies to facilitate international collaborative experiences in teaching and learning. It provides an alternative or complement to physical student mobility. Virtual mobility activities can help prepare students for physical exchanges, enable virtual internships, or internationalize parts of courses through online collaboration between institutions. Success requires thorough planning, appropriate technologies, intercultural skills development, and support for students. Virtual mobility is not a substitute for physical mobility but offers different ways to gain international experiences.

This document provides guidance for students on virtual mobility opportunities. It defines virtual mobility as ICT-supported international collaborative experiences in teaching and learning that can be fully virtual or blended. Virtual mobility allows students to gain international experience and intercultural skills without traveling abroad through online collaboration with foreign partners. The benefits highlighted include increased opportunities to internationalize studies, develop new skills like intercultural competence and telecollaboration, and lower costs compared to physical mobility. Students are encouraged to seek out quality virtual mobility programs.

Virtual mobility: an alternative for or a complement to physical mobility?Ilse Op de Beeck
This document discusses virtual mobility as an alternative or complement to physical student mobility. It defines virtual mobility as technology-supported international collaborative learning experiences. Virtual mobility can support physical exchanges through online orientation, language learning, and alumni networks. It can also internationalize courses through virtual internships, joint projects, and blended learning. Successful implementation requires consideration of technology, pedagogy, and organization. Virtual mobility is not a replacement for physical mobility but offers new ways to experience international learning.
This small publication on Virtual Mobility summarizes the main conclusions and outcomes of the VMCOLAB project. The booklet starts with defining the concept of Virtual Mobility and presenting the different types that can be distinguished. This is followed by an introduction of the VMCOLAB project and a presentation of the main support materials and services this project has developed for higher education institutions, teachers and students that want to engage in Virtual Mobility experiences. The three VMCOLAB pilot courses demonstrate the potential of Virtual Mobility for different target groups. Finally, some recommendations propose how to better integrate Virtual Mobility into educational experiences across Europe.
The publication is available in all the project languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, Dutch, Romanian and Lithuanian.
This document provides a historical overview of coal use from ancient times to present day. It discusses some of the earliest uses of coal in ancient China and Greece. It then outlines how coal was crucial during the industrial revolution due to its abundant availability. The document also examines early coal mining practices and some of the inventions fueled by coal like early steam engines. Finally, it discusses modern coal mining techniques and coal's main uses today in power generation, as well as ongoing efforts to mitigate coal's environmental impacts.

VMCOLAB is an EU-funded project that wishes to contribute to the innovation and internationalisation of European Higher Education Institutions by exploiting the full potential of ICT and Virtual Mobility and broadening the access to an international learning experience for all European students
This document discusses the VISCED project which aims to identify success factors for virtual schools and colleges in Europe. It provides examples of several existing virtual schools, including Bednet in Belgium which allows sick students to follow lessons remotely, Interhigh in Wales for students unable to attend mainstream schools, and Sofia Distans in Sweden which serves expatriate students. The project is identifying critical success factors through literature reviews and case studies of existing virtual schools. Initial potential factors identified include usability, professional development, technical infrastructure, leadership, learning outcomes, understanding regulations, market research, and relationship management. More information about the project is available on the listed website and wiki.

Innoveren zit in mijn bloed.

2. Context en definities
„„Studentenmobiliteit is een
belangrijk aspect van
internationalisering ...
maar het is onmogelijk om
een fysieke uitwisseling voor
de meerderheid van de
studenten te realiseren”
4. Context en definities
„„Virtuele mobiliteit is
de verzameling van ICTondersteunde
activiteiten, georganiseerd op
institutioneel niveau, met het
oog op de realisatie of de
ondersteuning van
internationale en
collaboratieve ervaringen in
een context van onderwijzen
en/of leren”
Geen vervanging van
fysieke mobiliteit maar
een andere manier om
mobiel te zijn!
5. Types van virtuele mobiliteit
➊ m.b.t internationale studenten- of
personeelsuitwisselingen
- Virtuele mobiliteit om
studentenuitwisselingen te ondersteunen
en te begeleiden (blended)
- Virtuele mobiliteit om
studentenuitwisselingen te realiseren, een
student volgt een volledig
studieprogramma via een ICT
ondersteunde omgeving (virtueel)
6. Types van virtuele mobiliteit
➋ m.b.t. internationale stages
- Virtuele mobiliteit om internationale
stages te ondersteunen en te begeleiden
(blended)
- Virtuele mobiliteit om internationale
stages te realiseren (virtueel)
7. Types van virtuele mobiliteit
➌ m.b.t. een internationaal curriculum
Virtuele mobiliteit als een scenario om een
internationale dimensie te geven aan een
(deel van) een studie, een opleiding
(hoofdstuk, oefening, taak, project),
programma, workshop, seminarie,…
schaal van blended tot volledig virtueel
12. Virtuele Verankering
• UNESCO World Conference of Higher
Education noteert als HO trends:
1. Globalisering / internationalisering
2. Afstandsonderwijs
3. Technologie => nieuwe leermodellen
• Virtuele Mobiliteit, combineert deze.
• Nog wel onderschat in academia.
22. Alternatieve Internationalisering
•Cross-cultural analyse: virtuele mobiliteitsplug-in
•Project MarketBasket: virtueel mobiliteitssemester
•EBS – Summer school instapmoduul (in Georgië)
•EBS – Winter school instapmoduul (in Maleisië)

ontwerpen met maximale
waarden contrapositionering.
• We willen stootkrachtgarantie.
• Vooranalyse door docenten.
• Voorafgaand inwerkcollege.
• e-Coaching tijdens/achteraf.
INTERCULTURELE STOOTKRACHT
37. De wereld is plat
• Globalisering creëert een nieuwe orde.
• Globalisering beïnvloedt de agenda
van internationalisering.
• En internationalisering beïnvloedt weer
de agenda van het Hoger Onderwijs.
• Nog wel verdedigbaar studenten zich
op de thuismarkt te laten focussen?
