Sharon Reid is an academic librarian at Loughborough University who encourages students to read for leisure through several initiatives. She runs a student book club called Club 790 where students discuss books every 6 weeks. The library also has a leisure reading collection with 300 books and comfortable seating. Through the BookCrossing program, over 1,300 books have been registered for students to borrow and pass on. Reid hopes to expand these programs and establish more reading champions to promote the benefits of leisure reading on mental health and academic achievement.

The project aimed to discover the perceived impact and value of four library interventions at UWE Bristol on developing student information skills. The Six Book Challenge is a program run by The Reading Agency that encourages people to read six books in order to improve literacy skills. It started in 2008 and has grown significantly, engaging over 35,000 people in 2013 across public libraries, colleges, prisons and workplaces. At Peterborough Regional College, the Learning Resources Coordinator implemented the Challenge and saw improvements in student engagement and confidence, as well as recognition from OFSTED. Tips are provided for making the Challenge a success in college settings, including gaining support from teaching staff and integrating it into English courses. The Challenge is continuing to grow with enhancements to better serve colleges and other organizations.
